Nice!
Here’s a prime example for separating into distinct forums for 2020 and 2024:
Right now the next topic down is “What did you do in MSFS today (Part 2)”
There are posts from both 2020 and 2024 or, most accurately, Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The title of this thread is specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator which we now call MSFS 2020.
I’ve perused “What did you do in MSFS today (Part 2)” from top to bottom and I wish I could see just posts from one or the other MSFS. Why? Because there’s great pictures from both but I see a plane that I think I’d like to try and, lo and behold, it’s isn’t in 2024 yet. I don’t think.
There’s also pictures of airports and scenery that I’m trying to figure out which MSFS they’re from so I can maybe go take a look for myself.
Just my thoughts.
True, though I think the importance of making that distinction in that thread is less important than something like a bug report, or requesting user support.
it has already been said that there are very few actual operational issues that apply to both Sims. The Wishlist is another matter but we arent discussing wishlist.
It seems to me that we keep demonstrating why:
A) the tagging system doesnt work because users arent forced to use it
B) the current forum is because of this becoming a very chaotic place.
Your example show this again. Seems that MS prefers us to waste OUR time instead of sorting this issue.
Force ALL posts to be either 2020 or 2024 tagged but not both!. It really isnt complicated.
I must say I am beginning to appreciate how King Canut felt trying to brush water uphill
This really isnt a complicated issue.
mandatory and cant be both?
One tag mandatory, you can select both because your topic could relate to both.

We do not have the bandwidth to have two separate forums
You would actually SAVE bandwidth and server resources by running 2 copies of the forum software on two separate subdomains - 2020.flightsimulator.com and 2024.flightsimulator.com.
People looking at each individual subdomain see less content and it’s more relevant, so fewer queries to the backend db trying to sort through posts for the ‘wrong’ sim.
Ask any competent server admin - it’s not that hard. Many CMS can do this with just a few clicks.
I agree.
I find it quite distressing that a multi-platform sim/game, with an audience in the millions, along with the backing of one of the biggest companies in the world, can’t find the ‘bandwidth’ (let alone budget) to run two separate forums!
That is sadly laughable.

two separate forums!
I don’t want to search two separate forums.
You’d rather read about an issue (or feature for that matter) for half an hour, trying to sort out a problem, only to find out it was for the other version and a different solution/feature set applies?
Ok then…
Please…for the love of all that is sane… separate the two.
Could not give two craps about 2024 and enough has been said about it.

for half an hour
My ADHD doesn’t allow for this.

One tag mandatory, you can select both because your topic could relate to both.
Then you have not understand the problem or most likely not analysed the posts that actually have both tags. I fear you have tinkered round the edges instead of solving the problem.
I probably need to explain; lots of people apply both tags because they THINK the issue applies to both.
Analyse the double tag posts and extrapolate the ‘wishlists’ posts. Then see what is left and are they correctly double tagged.
Please separate the forums and allow double tagging on wishlist posts only.
It sounds like MS is not going to do that so I’ll put this thread on Mute for now, as its just a pointless back, and forth at this point.
Closed topic, as the Community Manager has replied in post #99 ^^above^^ with the following:
We do not have the bandwidth to have two separate forums, so this + the tagging system is what we have to work with! It’s not ideal for perfect searchability, but feedback always welcome to improve the current system within what we can do with the forum software Discourse.
If you have a specific request for a forum feature, you could create a wish for it & use the forum-feedback tag. There are currently two wishes with this tag:
I’ve made quite a few suggestions that got responses like, "Thanks, but I’m in (country) and that’s not an option. I might not know all the restrictions (tax, shipping, support, etc.) but I might know more than not knowing - if that makes sense. Another benefit would be a greater sense of community, as it would be much easier to see just how widespread those of us who love this simulator are.
high-traffic / much-voted wishlist topics move to separate category would make digesting wishlist easier and allow new entries to easier get recognised
