I’m sure the recent slowdown is likely due to the holiday season, which often impacts updates and schedules. I’m sure things will pick up again starting next week.
Yeah it’s been a real lag. And Jayne said the nerd dev stream is end of month. So basically a month pause of solid updates and information directly from devs. Not ideal for a major launch let alone a poorly done one.
Not impressed with FS2024, especially with VR, crashes often. Still using FS2020
Personal Comments and Observations
I think you’ll be surprised (perhaps pleasantly) at how many studios/developers are going to release FS2020 products this year. Remember, nearly everyone on the Marquee List had a roadmap in existence before FS’24 even had a launch date. Most of that work was in FS2020.
The launch of FS’24 did not automatically invalidate FS’20. FS’20 is a ground-breaking, innovative product with the benefit of nearly four and a half-years maturity lifecycle and a massive share of ecosystem support.
But 2020 & 2024 are bundled together within those categories. Its a bit of an unorganised mess. The only 2024 specific forum was locked on release day.
From my view, having them bundled actually provides a broader view and keeps the discussions more cohesive, especially since there’s so much overlap in the many topics and experiences between the two versions. However, I do see your point in having clearer distinctions for 2024-specific content.
I feel this to much. I have 2020 since 2021 (I saw the chaos at launch and delayed my planned PC update … and back at 2021 the game was still a mess quite honestly) and I have never felt so much neglect since about a month before 2024 launch.
And now everything is all about 2024 and all updates and fixes on 2020 are totally lost. The last time they mentioned something was “it will be scheduled” about the next World Update.
Thing is, NOTHING is getting updated on 2020. There are serious bugs on the A320v2 that iniBuilds says they have already fixed and submited to MS/Asobo since early DECEMBER and haven’t been flushed to the game. There are airport stars and sids that are obsolete since the last AIRTAC and I don’t seem them been uploaded.
The forum is all about 2024, everything is all about 2024. It is a complete disrespect to the whole community since these are supposed to be two products. We were promised 10 years of support when 2020 were released, most people thought it was about content, but we are in 2025 and it is STILL about fixing bugs and adding missing content (or more likelly, saying it won’t be added to 2020 and we should get 2024).
For these reasons, I don’t think I will ever actually purchase 2024 and have serious reservations about any other MSFS. I will continue flying 2020 until I can’t, and then go back to wishful flying which were my status between FSX being too obsolete and a new proper version. Or the competition capitalizing on this.
I lost hope on MS a long time ago (Windows 8 anyone?), XBox is also a mess, 2024 was clearly designe with the console in mind (some aspects of the UI are clearly based on controller and don’t work as well on KB+M), some days I just wish someone would “donate” google satelite image to a certain competition so I can leave MS/Asobo forever.
Unfortunately, that is the way of the world. The MS2020 users (of which I am not one) have had time to find an equilibrium, one which works for them.
2020 users and new users finding themselves with the new fangled 2024 version are all at sea with the new format and the bugginess.
Naturally, 2024 is going to dominate the topic of conversation.
Be thankful that you, as a long term 2020 user are not the subject of the chinese curse " I wish you interesting times ahead" and are not reading all the tales of angst contained therein.
Beware of what you wish for…
“MSFS 2020 been forgotten?”
I don’t think so - the road map says it will be supported up to 2028.
I’m wondering when SU16 is dropping though? Would love to see the game restored to the visual polish and consistent performance on Xbox prior to SU15.
Meh 2020 has been fantastic and screaming fast graphics wise. With neofly, Orbx HD trees, birds, GAIST/Seafront, FSLTL/AI Mod and hundreds upon hundreds of add-ons free/paid all working flawlessly, it’s never been better. Let alone the obvious basis like control settings, peripherals, custom views which are absolutely infuriating in 2024. I don’t even come on here because its all woe is me 2024, I just fly. Only tinkering I do in 2020 is to tweak weather challenges for myself, and occasionally flip down from 400 LOD to 300 if I’m going to challenging big city areas.
I keep thinking I’ll try 2024 again but the thought of setting up anything other than the most basic GA setup I spent far too much time to get mostly right is off-putting enough for me. mmmmmmmmmmmmm-no!
Not sure what the effect is, but ever since I went to 64GB in preparation for 2024, 2020 has been outstanding. (7800X3D/4080S 4K). I take it they’re still all on holiday anyway.
It’s likely related to fewer players on the 2020 servers and not your available ram. Many others have made similar comments. But i could be wrong.
Support ≠ active development.
Certainly that is my impression. I’ve left 2024 for the foreseeable future and the flights in 2020 since then have been the smoothest I’ve had.
I wholeheartedly agree! It also appears that MSFS 2024 is consistently becoming a bastardized version of MSFS 2020, since most of 2024’s “fixes” are cut & pastes from 2020. At least that’s how I see it.
Hello Flusi friends,
Anyone who has a little experience with Microsoft products should know that it makes sense to wait a year so as not to play the lab mouse all the time. My experience since the introduction of Windows and 2020 made the mistake again.
Greetings Michael
Not forgotten at all! I was playing 2020 just a few days ago and compared to 2024, it practically looked like a next gen game. Really beautiful all over the world and runs 30 fps most of the time without hiccups if not all the time (Series X).
2020 seems like a dream sim in comparison to the irks and pains of 2024
“Has MSFS 2020 been forgotten?”
Not here. Recently went back to it and I’m amazed. It looks like a completely new, almost next-gen game compared to 2024.
Yesterday I did a fly with the fantastic S55 I miss too much Fs2020
2020 is awesome right now on Series X with nearly all my add-on airports and aircraft (except of course those known to be poorly optimized/poor performers). While the focus is on sorting out 24, I am very happy to continue flying in 2020 and hope that they do not make any changes that would send us into a reversionary spiral, given how far 2020 has come through SU15. That said, what they learn about streaming and asset optimization may benefit 2020 users over time, but from the back end and not as a formal update that we download? And who can complain about the low server load with 2/3rds of folks having moved onto 24 for the most part? Not me!
