MSFS 2020 been forgotten?

Not yet forgotten, as an official development roadmap being published regularly, third party developers keep publishing new content, and player engagement seems higher than MSFS 2024.

And for the time it may have left, I hope they finally fix the legacy bugs such as the drone camera rolling to the left, the AI traffic taxiing aimlessly, inconsistent ATC behavior, among others.

During a live stream, Jorg mentioned their commitment to building rock-solid software. Based on this, I wish they’ll continue supporting MSFS 2020 until its core features are fully stable.

I had to do a full format on my PC and while I was restoring apps, I literally forgot I also needed to reinstall MSFS2024. As if the game (can’t call it a sim yet) hadn’t existed at all before the format. So I did reinstall it in the end but I’m not touching it.

2020 the saviour of XBox simmers in my experience.

I think many posters forget to properly tag their posts.
But as 2024 is the new Sim and MS went out of its way to explain it wasnt an update but new release, then it should have its own forum. As a 2020 user I am not interested in any 2024 posts. A separate forum with an ability to easily switch between them is the answer. Right now I read posts and half the time only halfway through I realize the poster is talking about 2024. As many posters clearly do not bother to Tag their posts, MS should separate the forums more clearly.

I can’t use FS 2020 now because, for some mysterious reason, it won’t load now. It was running just the way I wanted it, but now it won’t start up. I’m NOT happy about that!

Nvidia user? Known issue. Uninstall the NVidia app (not the driver, just the App)

I have the new Nvidia App and haven’t had a single problem since installing it.

Forgot to add: this appears to be a problem if you’re running DX11, as far as i understand. DX12 seems fine.

I don’t claim to be an expert on the matter, I’m just mentioning what worked for me!

See also this thread: MSFS 2024 refuse to start up - This happens also for MSFS2020

I’m running 12, so that must be the case for me too.

With the latest Nvidia driver, I got many blue screens of death und my PC frozen completely with no reaction anymore… But I had not installed the Nvidia app!! So I uninstalled the driver and installed the previous one and now everything works fine again with DX11…

The baffling part is that I did absolutely nothing to my system. One day, it just not would load. I uninstalled and did a new install. The program downloaded, but would not and still will not load the game. It stops loading at the same place every time.

I think that unlikely considering the massive rewrite that went on for 2024.
So a ‘cut and paste’ is unlikely. however a code change isnt. We were told that any fixes in either if it also benefitted the other would be executed in both.
To be applauded I think.

It has been left by the wayside I’m afraid. For instance the inibuilds a320 v2 has been virtually unflyable on my series x and Tca captains pack flight controller .Initially it worked very well but whether it’s due to an update, I can’t complete a flight without crashing or freezing. I understand that this was a free add on and I am aware that others are having problems but I haven’t seen anything on the forum regarding help.

I think they have so many problems to fix with MS2024 that it’s inevitable 2020 will not get much attention. There’s little chance of the many bugs and other issues which have not been addressed in 2020 being fixed now, which really disappoints me. I have no intention of upgrading to 2024 in the foreseeable future, having serious doubts about the streaming model together with our relocating to a more rural setting with slower broadband! I did intend to replace my ageing computer this year, which runs 2020 fine incidentally, but am putting that on hold also.

The current state of affairs, one sim possibly getting forgotten, it’s successor fraught with annoying glitches, leaves me feeling rather disenchanted with the whole MSFS franchise. Last year I so looked forward to the new sim, primarily for new features such as seasons, historical weather, improvements to visuals and the flight model, ground handling etc. I was never really interested in Career Mode as all my flying is of my own creation, but it all now seems a bit of a non event. I wish they’d continued for a while longer refining MS2020.

Not forgotten but it has always been announced as “not planned” since MSFS 2024 launch. However, to my surprise, the latest wishlist snapshot now shows Seasons in “Under Investigation” state for MSFS 2020. Interesting enough if not a typo or they had not forgotten to revise the document.

Massive rewrite? Hardly. Bugs that were fixed in 2020 were re-introduced in 2024.

And it’s the same game engine (Asobo Conception Engine), just with better multi-threading.

The world maps are the same as well, since they are Microsoft/Bing.

It’s obvious the people who did 2024 forgot to sync their code with updates from 2020 on an ongoing basis. Just went off doing their own thing. Poor management on Asobo’s part.

For Asobo, 2020 better be forgotten. 2020 is stable and runs fine. I don’t want their little paws anywhere near 2020. Given their QC track record (including for 2020), it’s a miracle we have something stable as it is. I remember every Sim Update for 2020 they’d fix something I really wanted and break something else. Then I’d just not play for like 3 months until the next Sim Update would drop and so on. 2024 will have a painful journey ahead.

I can’t remember the last time FS20 has been updated, other than AIRAC updates.

Will we be seeing any FS20 updates soon?

Not really. Number of topics have been bug logged as seen here:

For the first part, the expected answer is “yes”, they stated that at multiple times during the livestreams.

The second part, “soon”, might be the real question. By priorization, most of the team is focused on fixing bug. It could be bugs for MSFS 2020 or bugs for MSFS 2024. As MSFS 2024 has more bug, the team is geared for that, “mainly”, at the moment.

100% of the next updates (or kind of) will be “bugfixes”, for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. It is expected that most of the updates will cover MSFS 2024, as there are less bugs in MSFS 2020.

New functionalities implementation will resume its normal rythm of cruise when the mountain of bugfixes is passed. I think we can expect that 80% of “new functionalities” will be released for MSFS 2024, even if both are designated as “current products”. This opinion is based on an interview of Jorg, who stated that the MSFS 2020 platform have kind of reached it’s limits in term of abilities to accept new additions. Jorg and the team also stated that whenever possible, new things coming to MSFS 2024 are also to be implemented in 2020.

World Updates are coming to both simulators, also (same source).

That’s a long answer for a small question, but I hope it can help you have the logic behind the answer : “yes, but no”

Cheers,
K.
