MSFS 2024 Embedded Replay Tool discussion

I have been using the embedded record and replay to practice landings. I can record a landing, replay it, and then restart the replay, hit record to take control, and record and replay the second landing, etc. Several bugs: 1) Replay of saved flights is fine initially, but if the slider is moved during replay, to replay from another angle for example, the 1x replay slows to about 0.6x and can’t be recovered. 2) If a replay is paused and then live control taken the aircraft is often unstable and starts in a steep dive. The dive should be unrecoverable (140 kts straight down at a few hundred feet), but the simulation somehow jerks the aircraft stepwise back to some kind of normal altitude and speed if controls are used. 3) If flight controls are not used and the airplane crashes, or the stop button is used to take control and then the airplane crashes, the simulation main window goes dark and the program hangs and must be restarted

Here’s an alternative replay tool that is excellent for creating videos. You can even fly formations with it. It is very easy to use and works perfectly (no bugs). The author has gone to great lengths to insure it uses minimal resources. It has extensive compatibility with different file types. If the new imbedded tool is not meeting your needs you might give it a try. There are YT videos about how to use it, but it’s pretty self explanatory. I like it because it can do different views of the same clip, like in this video. But if the 2024 replay tool replacement is doing what you need there’s no need to go with a third party solution.

Hi ! Thank you for the report ! FCR Embedded will be better with the time (fixing bugs … adding things …) . I take your precious feedback and i ll test and go deep on these
Thanks

I have almost never got this reply tool to work. When I open it from the toolbar during an approach I only see a tiny window with a title bar but nothing more. I cannot resize this small window. I remember once upon a time it suddenly worked but now it looks like below screen shot all the time. If I click the ‘open as a window’ button in the right corner, the whole thing disappears.

Me too…I have the same Swede001 problem!!! :face_exhaling:

I have a workaround for this problem.1 Open FCR via the toolbar. 2 Click on the minus symbol in the FCR bar. 3 Close FCR via the toolbar. 4 Restart FCR via the toolbar. The FCR window should now open in full size

Wow, it works! Thank you very much!

Anyone know where the replay files get stored?

Hi !! For window appear I checking with Asobo , for saved flight you need open Work directory in user folder . In that folder you find FCR-embedded folder . Inside you ll find recorded flights . Please don’t modify index file and don’t rename the recorded flights .

I’ve prepared a video in which i use the replay tool to practice landing. While there’s room for improvment, i find it very useful and absolutely a game changer for Xbox pilots.

From the description under the video:

“You can use the in-game replay editor to practice landing on MFS 2024. When you’re approaching the strip, open the replay editor on the toolbox up to the screen, press Record ( it’s the “circle” button ) and close the replay editor. Once you landed, re-open it, click at the start of the progression line ( the plane will be placed in the exact position where you start recording ), press the Record button and land again. Rinse and repeat. It works well on Xbox Series X/S.”

Today was the first time I tried the FCR tool and it didn’t work.
At first I opened the window, tried to record, tried to stop… but the buttons did not resond. All I could do was switching between the tabs inside the FCR tool, like instant replay, record etc.

Then I closed the window, opened it again and now the window was empty. Just an empty opague window.

I closed and restarted FS, tried the FCR again. This time everything was visible again. I hit the record button, that worked. Hit the record button again, recording stopped. But after that everyting became unresponsive again. All the buttons inside each tab of the FCR where dead again.

Does it work for anyone, at all?

My experience (excluding 3rd party aircraft)

  • UI issues. Sometimes it won’t open the full UI window.
  • Sometimes it replays in slow motion (like 1/2x). This is the most annoying bug of all
  • Not sure if it’s a FCR issue, but going with drone mode (not following aircraft), placing it in the middle of the runway and looking at the aircraft, sometimes you see half of the aircraft, sometimes you see it ok (may be lod issue?, but not my settings issue for sure)
  • Aircraft movement start suttering badly (this was while landing).

Hope they (or the dev from FCR) give some love to embedded FCR at least for SU2, really not usefull as of now.

Biggest feature wishlist for me: always record last n seconds, so that you depart or land and see the replay without having to remind to activate recording before.

To me, the replay function in FSX did the job much easier and better than anything related to MSFS2020 or MSFS2024. Can anyone tell me why this system has not been encoded into the newer simulators?

It works, but I would’ve liked to see something similar to X-Plane, where you don’t have to click record

This is what I have been saying, but I had many people tell me “why would you want that if it would take a lot of space” or “I am just to lazy to open up the window and click record”. I never understood people who are like this. If X-Plane can do it without taking much if any additional space for it, what is stopping MSFS from doing the same?

In general it feels rushed and is barely functional. The UI is a big mess and there are a lot of functions left out, for example being able to bind a key to start recording without needing to use the mouse and menus, or autosaving the last 1 minute of flight, etc.

I went back quickly to Sky Dolly that works perfectly with 2024, FCR to me is a mess.

Just a question (to see if it’s something wrong on my end).
Does instant replay work more than a few seconds for everybody ?
What I want, is NOT having to press any record button before, just see my takeoff and landings. I thought that instant replay would do just that but instead of having the last 1-5 minutes, I only have a few seconds and I don’t see a way to change it.

OK for replaying landings from the cockpit and taking control for practice, etc.

However, as a camera, honestly, it’s a nightmare to use and the camera views are so limited.

Why can I not fix the showcase camera drone at the end of the runway and watch my landing? Why is there no ‘tower view’?

We had much better replay in FSX…and X-Plane.

Incredibly disappointing and, quite honestly, pretty useless.

You can actually use the drone camera in replay mode, so you can set your view as wish as you like.

Anybody is expiriencing CTD while using any FCR function?

I’ve tried recording, instant replay and others. No matter which function is used - the sim is CTD within a minute or rather several seconds.
