As an aside, I played and LOVED a Spectrum Holobyte game called GATO, which was a WW2 sub game. If you worked on that, thank you, thank you, it was wonderful.
On the topic, I enjoy MSFS2024 although I must say I’m not using career mode. I thought I might use it, but so far I just haven’t had the urge. That may be why 2024 is working well for me…very smooth and stable for me. I’m not on the beta. I would not characterize 2024 as “broken”, I fly it all the time with full expectation of a completed flight. I am not the type of person to have the patience to deal with CTD’s and instability, so if 2024 were doing that, I wouldn’t be using it.
Really depends who you ask. For me personally I just don’t have all that much use for MSFS 2020 anymore and I find that MSFS 2024 works well enough for me. I don’t feel I have been scammed. I’ll hop in MSFS 2020 to fly the Black Square Duke and that’s it. In MSFS 2024 the CHT gauges are broken which are a pretty big deal with this aircraft. Once it’s fixed in MSFS 2024 I’m likely to uninstall MSFS 2024.
I haven’t seen that many denied refunds and they bought the game on Steam. Maybe Steam should extend their refund policy and maybe users should read the fine print…which can be deceptive.
I also saw a few who bought from the MS Store who didn’t receive refunds because they had reached the maximum refunds they were allowed.
I’ve probably read all the posts concerning refunds. Regardless my definition of scam is being ripped off with no way to recover. My biggest disappointment is not being able to dive into career missions. But I don’t feel scammed because of one thing I am disappointed with.
MS released too early, no doubt about it. You said yourself no one was forced to buy the sim.
Having said that I understand why some people feel that way. My point is what’s done is done. Neither you, I or anyone else can change the past so there is no point continuing to complain about it.
I believe we all want the same things from the sim. The only way to get there is to provide constructive criticism directed to Asobo and stop complaining about a bad early release that was mostly, if not all MS’s fault. And helping each other out where possible.
I have a lot of tolerance for bugs having been through all the bugs I experienced in MS2020. I have no problem following sim improvements and am always looking forward to them. In other words, I enjoy being a part of the evolution of something incredible as MSFS. Even with all the bugs and missing features which we all know will be fixed.
This was a general statement, based on what I’ve read in the forums since late-November. It was applicable to no one in particular.
There’s a big difference between marketing embellishment and a concerted effort to scam. Since I made the purchase of my own free will — by invitation to treat, without coercion — there’s no basis for a legal challenge (certainly not in the UK, anyway).
Asobo aren’t the first to realise they can’t deliver on all their promises, and they won’t be the last. It’s bad marketing, at worst. But ‘scam’ and ‘fraud’ are very high-impact words that shouldn’t be used lightly, out of frustration.
I don’t know many companies who’ll immediately roll over when a customer requests a refund. But I’ve had countless refunds (from Microsoft and retailers unrelated to MSFS) that were initially denied. It’s all about knowing your consumer rights, and having the time and inclination to put up a fight.
I know the difference between “mere puffery”/ “salesman’s talk,” and fraudulent assertions.
Saying “FS2024 will be the greatest sim ever released” would be an example of the former.
I’m talking about very specific statements made in livestreams, interviews, etc. These would not be regarded as mere puffery, due to their specificity.
In any case, I never claimed anyone was actually defrauded. I’m simply not dismissing others’ feelings with a “hurr durr nobody put a gun to your head.”
Every single one of these threads starts off with those of us describing a positive experience, then it quickly devolves into the rants of those that are having a bad experience.
It seems they can’t reconcile the fact that not everyone is having the same experience that they are. I do feel terrible for anyone having a bad experience, but I’m not going to dwell on it with them.
I really do understand. I’ve been on that end of this situation in the past and it’s truly frustrating. However, this is why I run multiple platforms. When something like this has happened in the past, I fly a different program. It’s very rare that they are all messed up at the same time…but it has happened.
Hopefully just dropping a little insight into what I’ve seen may help others cope. If not, that’s fine too.
Guys, if you look at the release notes of today’s SU1 release… can anyone claim with the straight face that “they” are scamming us? The sheer amount of work that they have put into fixing all that stuff…
And people complaining about the release notes not containing anything substantial. I knew the release notes for the final were going to be long but I wasn’t expecting a novel…lol.
Loaded up SU1. All charter missions are gone, yet again. That seems pretty broken to me.
Also, in the patch notes, they didn’t address the most serious issue with the Baron. The fuel system doesn’t work. Perhaps they fixed it and failed to document it. I’d like to test this out in career, but it isn’t possible with the charter mission issue.
Oh well. It could be worse, at least I’m not a VR simmer.
EDIT: It is getting worse. Almost all Light Cargo missions have now vanished.
All of this fussing reminds me of an ancient anecdote:
I don’t mean to minimize other people’s angst, but really now. . . If you’re so upset with MSFS, go do something you enjoy more. Life is too short to spend it doing things you don’t like.

Here’s an interesting observation:
Prior to last November, everyone was whining and complaining about how awful FS-2020 was, all the horrific bugs that “made the game impossible to play”, and how could MSobo release such a steaming pile of GAGH!
Now that 2024 is here, everyone is saying how wonderful 2020 is and what a steaming pile 2024 turned out to be.
========================================
IMHO, we’ve beaten this dead dog enough by now, don’t you think? With the possible exception of the 6DOF homebrew full-motion rig’s thread,
. . . it seems that every topic, every thread, every conversation seems to have degenerated into a listing of the same faults, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, and I am about six inches away from just deleting the forum’s app off of my phone and all my browser’s bookmarks to it.
Every time I try to search these forum topics for useful tips, tricks, and information I get twenty thousand returns that are about this or that thing being borked beyond recognition. Any useful data gets drowned out in all the noise. Useful and important data, (even data about issues), is overshadowed by the cruft.
I can’t even sit down at my sim rig anymore without all these waves of negativity washing over me to the point where I put down the joystick and shut down the system because the constant complaining has drained every ounce of energy from my body.
It’s not the sim itself, mind you, it’s the waves of negativity from these forums - it just drains any enthusiasm I might have had, leaving me with an empty feeling inside.
I really think it’s long past time for us to just stipulate the fact that it’s a steaming pile and move on.
If you really hate MSFS so much then do something else with your life. Maybe a different flight sim? Maybe something else?
