MSFS 2024 only positive comments!

Just had a perfect and incredibly fun experience! CYHU to CYOW using the fantastic FSReborn M500, the great SayIntentions.AI and the poor man’s head tracker (Beam). Flawless and great atmosphere in dreary conditions.

There is HOPE!

Yup, free flight in the planes that don’t have major bugs is mostly going great on my end right now (typing this while on arrival into KDTW in the Fenix A320)

Fully agree, I’ve been having a blast! I think it’s important to acknowledge not everyone has has a great experience so far, but I think the negativity and toxicity on this forum and over on Reddit have really got out of hand. Yeah, the launch wasn’t great but the game is already faster and more stable than it was, and I’m sure it will just keep getting better. Jorg and the team have given this community so much the last few years, just give them a chance and I think this will be the GOAT!

I’m currently flying a Charter mission in the 930 over to LOWI, it’s awesome

Agree, I am continuing my “round the world in a Cirrus Vision Jet” route - have been in FS2024 since Shanghai (using the FS2020 FFX version of the jet) and it works perfectly.

As in any other sim, just ignore the default planes and you’re golden. Happily flying the Fenix, the Cows DA42 and the Duke now.

Can I recommend StableView over Beam? Completely free and the best headtracker I’ve yet to come across (and I’ve tried them all, paid and free).

Watch out for the bison grazing on the side of the runway at LOWI… I tried to persuade them to move on but they were not having any of it!

Just connected my Wilga cockpit to MSFS 2024 for the first time (built for MSFS 2020 using SPAD.next to connect the hardware) and every single knob worked right away (well, except the fuel selector). That was extremly impressive. Good work!

Conclusion:
The MSFS SDK (SIMCONNECT etc) in MSFS 2024 is very similiar (identical?) to MSFS 2020, and works fine.

Just did my first MSFS 2024 flight in APLv2 with the Fenix, zero issues (could use some more LOD on arrival over the detroit suburbs, but not game-breaking by any means). Nice that so many 3rd party programs are working fine in the first week.

Yes the launch was a disaster. Yes the streaming performance is … variable. Yes, loads of people still can’t load the game (!!). Yes not a single plane is bug free. Yes, there are more bugs than a loch on a hot Scottish summer day. Yes, the AI is bonkers. Yes, I also had issues the first few days. All of these things are true.

But as of today, for me, it does work, it does run smooth, and it does look great.

I’m doing free flights, I’m digging into the career, I’m having fun with it. I love the improved rendering, the more alive world, the improved flight dynamics.

Despite all the issues, it’s doesn’t stop me from enjoying what is there.

I’m super excited to find out where this sim is in a years time, in two years time.

Go on Seb, go on Jorg. Show us what you got! Keep going.

Just my opinion. No need to pile on if you don’t agree, I don’t care. Plenty of other threads for that.

Fenix, Vision Jet, Longitude are all pretty close to bug free and the ones they do have are in parts of the sim that are bugged/half baked in all planes like the passenger loading system. Haven’t spent as much time in other planes, and maybe this is a nitpick, but at least a handful of the planes are in pretty good shape and/or ported over well.

So mostly agreeing with you here, but just adding that my strategy has been to briefly check out the new in 2024 planes but for end-to-end flights have been sticking to the more refined planes for now.

I have about 1800+ addons from the marketplace. In 2020, you can only load so many of them at one time or the sim crashes. So it is always a constant swapping around which addons are loaded at which times. And the number you can have loaded at a time kept going down everytime there was a world update.

So today, many of my addons which couldn’t load before came into the sim. I had about 1500 over the weekend, I now have 2300 listed in My Library. And when the sim loads, it was about 2200 SimObjects this weekend, today it was around 6900. All my addons I want all loaded at the same time. No updating needing to be done. No having to decide what to load and unload. Be able to start a flight absolutely anywhere I want, and fly without any addon maintenance.

THAT is so wonderful. Since I have sooo many addons, so much of my time was spent maintaining them. Updating them. Swapping them. Organizing them so I could swap easily. Now all of that is gone.Yes, there are issues to be resolved. But to someday have a sim where I am not spending so much of my time maintaining addons, that is priceless.

Best of all, instead of 3 minutes to load the sim takes about 5 now, but after that, no impact to performance that I was getting.

The highlights for me are:

  • Environmental lighting is noticeably better
  • Ground detail, trees and terrain mapping onto steep cliffs is a significant enhancement
  • The career mode is deeper and more impressive than I thought it would be
  • More strict LOD standards are expected for addons which should improve performance overall
  • SDK has been more standardized which should eventually result in fewer cockpit bugs and missing interactions
  • New CFD model detail and ability to model more complex aero surfaces. This is a big one for flight models where air from all directions and sources is calculated on more detailed surfaces.
  • Improved ground handling and config parameters. This will vary between aircraft but it does give devs more adjustable gear suspensions.
  • And most important a much more solid base to grow the sim. Asobo has been working on this for a long time. Natuarally, the bugs pile up at the very end. It’s a long term play.

Speaking of load times, I couldn’t help but notice how nice it is to have something to watch now during load, as opposed to 2020 giving us a PowerPoint presentation on the latest update.

“Pretty close to bug free” is not bug free.

The Longitude’s landing and taxi lights seem to be focused beams that only illuminate a small spot underneath them as opposed to flood beams that, say, allow you to see the taxiway ahead of you.

I agree that there are many planes without gamebreaking bugs, but I donno that I’ve flown many (any?) yet that are entirely bug-free.

About ten hours in and I must say that I like 2024 much better than 2020, even though most of the improvements are items I would’ve expected in 2020. (I reference FSX.)

I’m liking the stabilized front end. I really like the more complete simConnect interface and how there’s more sim internals to which can be assigned HW inputs. All of the flight models so far seem much better. GFX are great, even on my lower-high-end system. I’ll be putting the replay tool to good use.

The EFB is a great tool. I only wish there were a better controls interface.

Obviously, a good deal of effort went into 2024. Great job! Thanks!

Finally, some positivity to look at. Been doing this a long time ( >30 yrs), so my perspective is jaded by polygons and launching MSFS from the DOS prompt  Having a great time with the game. Not without issues as many have extensively provided throughout these forums. But i havent experienced too many launches that were not without issues (read the Madden forums right after launch for the last decade)Im loving the graphics and the whole VR experience is amazing even with my mid system. Again my experience is my experience and i hope others will begin to enjoy it like i do.

Lets add to the list. Right out the box, game play (frame rates) are significantly improved (atleast in my PC Rig w/ a 4090, and i9 13900k. Better use of the cpu cores. TAA mode = no problem. I remember having to use 3rd party apps and really tweak the settings in the 2020 sim inorder to get descent frame rates

Okay, I am very frustrated because to the constant CTDs. But today I had a VR flight over Corsia and the experience was unreal. The scenery, the weather, the sunlight effects on the windscreen, it was absolutely amazing.

Can I just say BALLOONS! What a peaceful, relaxing way to explore the digital world. The sounds of the burners, the wind and birds in the trees.
