I’ve been excited about MSFS since it was announced, since I really like airplanes. I bought a joystick, I played the game every day since launch.
Yesterday, after 1.9.3, was the first time I just quit the game and did something else. I was ok with the game, even with all its problems, even with having to periodically turn up the brightness on the PFD or put up with the AP going up and down or keeping the APU on during the flight, even though all these problems were bugs introduced in after-launch patches.
With 1.9.3, MSFS passed a threshold where it’s no longer fun to use. Simple bugs were not fixed. The map, which I open and close a lot to study approaches or changes to the flight plan, crashes my game. It’s a new issues, introduced in the new patch, they knew about it and yet chose to release it like that anyway!
Who does this? Why? I’ve been playing games for 25 years and I’ve seen many buggy or incomplete ones released, but then patches fixed them, not made them worse!
MSFS, right now, is a big list of workarounds and “do not press these” which I have to remember in order to MAYBE start and finish a flight. Maybe. It might still crash to desktop or just not work as it is supposed to.
I’m not playing the game, I’m fighting with the game to make it functional.
Thank god I got it on Game Pass for PC. I wanted to pay 120 euros for the Premium Deluxe at launch, but I said to myself “lets give Game Pass a chance and, if I like the game, I’ll get it in full because I want the Dreamliner”. That would have been a huge waste of money.
I feel your pain, but I have to say I’m loving the game so far. Yes, there are plenty of bugs. I’ve not touched any of the more complex airliners. I’ve been happily flying the TBM all over the place: places I’ve been to in real life, places I haven’t. I’ve learned to work around the autopilot bugs and I’m loving it.
While I’m typing this, I’m on autopilot from Bahrain to Dubai at 15000 ft., with live traffic all around me (verified with Flightradar24), and it’s smooth as silk. I don’t turn on multiplayer, because it gets in the way of my learning. Earlier I flew around Mount Fuji and flew close to a lightning storm, which looked great and added more realism.
While I would like there to be no bugs out the door, software development is not like that these days. Back in the day, developers had to have tighter QA cycles when you shipped CDs; recalls were almost never heard of. The Internet introduced hot fixes and impatient end users; greedy corporations and higher development costs; hundreds of different PC configurations. I’ve been on flight simulators for 38 years, and there’s always issues but you lived with it or attempted to patch it where you could. Yes, we paid a lot of money for this, yes our expectations were high, yes there’s bugs, but ■■■■ it looks good. I haven’t once thought that the game is so bad I don’t want to play it.
Awesome. You don’t have any issues with the simulator - Thanks for sharing.
I’m flying the sim and having a terrible time. To each his own.
Please come back in a few months and provide further useless commentary regarding how the bugs don’t effect you personally, I’ll keep reporting and discussing them here so I can finally get the functional simulator I paid for.
Apart from that, and the odd crash mainly due to photogrammetry or a dodgy mod, the sim is fine for general aviation planes. Not really interested in being a truck driver, so I can wait for the big jets to be fixed.
You‘re totally right. I did the Update yesterday and I didn’t expected a full round of Touch’n’go without CTD. I was wrong! No CTD at all. I had to finish all my touch‘n‘go…Hard work after 1 hour flying the TBM manually up and down.
Anyway, still a lot of work to do for Asobo. Maybe hard work to.
Didn’t we all know that this was a new development when it launched on Aug 18th? I think Microsoft made us all aware that this was a work in progress being made with love, by Flight Sim enthusiasts, and there would be many Updates and Patches along the road to perfection. I bought MSFS with the view it was a “Superior Beta” from the start.
My preference lies with flying Turboprops - Dash 8, ATR, B1900, Embraer 120 etc. so, for the moment, I am tootling around in the General Aviation camp. For sure, there are some strange and weird behaviours with the aircraft sometimes, so when that happens, I let the sim “Control Aircraft” for a minute or two until the aircraft behaves itself. There is little that destroys my enjoyment of the outstanding scenery . In fact, I have just purchased the upgrade from Standard to Premium Deluxe as I particularly fancied seeing what Microsoft have did with London Heathrow!
Maybe its because I work on the railway and have a passion for railway modelling that I have an abundance of patience. Hang on in there, there will be many more Patches and Hot Fixes along the way but it will all be worth it!
Oh my… that people saying nothing is finished, its normal, bla bla bla. Yep Some bugs are really normal, the things aren’t normal are those that simply made this sim unusable. All airplanes are broken in someway. Autopilots, avionics, perfomance. Black screens, dlphins and dancers auto pilots, wrong working of ndbs, procedures, a lot of CTDs. Things that are fine but they broken in every single update… so, if you eant a job in Microsoft, a gift card or just do because you’re a sucker idk, but stop, a lot of ppl that payed aren’t receiving an, at least, usable software
I’m on the latest patch. The release note implied you had to open the map to avoid the problem. I’m saying it clearly isn’t necessary, unless I totally misunderstood the original issue.
Things work great for me aside the known issues that we all are aware of.
This sim needs at least 10 more months to be considered stable and functional. We can still enjoy what it is now but the navigation systems are not complete and the planes themselves lack functions.
Welcome to flight simming on PC, it has been like this for the last 20 years, why change now?
