We actually debated this very topic during our Fly-In Friday livestream last week! I ultimately voted for the ICON A5 myself on the basis that one can actually fly it for more than a few seconds, but I did note that of those two aircraft, only one of them is in the Smithsonian.
Haha, I can confidently say I have had more fun attempting to fly the Wright Flyer than anything I have done in the Icon A5, although if we are talking total flight hours I have undoubtedly flown the Icon more. There’s no wrong choice here, but I was hoping to see the Wright Flyer survive the first round.
Well let’s wait and see.
If I were a betting man, I’d wager that something sensible like the Skyhawk, A320 or SR22T will prevail in the end
In my personal mock bracket, I picked the DC-3 for the ultimate winner. I suspect the community will likely vote for one of the B747, A320, An-225, or F/A-18, though.
Congratulations to yesterday’s winners! Each of these planes has advanced to the next round:
- Pilatus PC-6 Porter
- de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou
- Antonov An-225 Mriya
- ATR 42-600 & 72-600
Day 3 Polls are now live! Vote now at the links below!

Dornier Do X vs. Curtiss JN-4 Jenny
North American P-51 Mustang vs. Cessna 152
Beechcraft Baron G58 vs. CubCrafters XCub & NXCub
Super close between C152 and P51!
Yeah, this is the Instagram poll results right now (screenshot taken about 5 minutes ago). I assumed the P-51 would win this matchup in a landslide. I’m really surprised this one is so close!
Edit: It’s really close on Twitter, too!
IRL the P51 would win it for me any time, but in the simulator I’ve had an enormous amount of fun in the C152 especially with the free mod available.
According to the player stats we released last year for the three-year anniversary of the PC launch, the Cessna 152 is the most popular plane in the sim by number of flight sessions flown. I always assumed this is because it’s the plane used for the training sessions but then most people move on to different aircraft after they complete the tutorials, but maybe it’s not that simple?
Personally never flown the tutorial (I definitely should), but it would make sense.
We had a real nail-biter of a result yesterday! On Twitter, the Cessna 152 beat the P-51 Mustang by a 51% - 49% margin. On Instagram, the results were exactly reversed, with the Mustang having a 51% - 49% lead. We had to count the combined total number of votes cast for each plane across both platforms, and the Mustang barely won in the end. I was not expecting that matchup to be so close!
Congratulations to each of yesterday’s winners who all advance to the next round:
- Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet
- Dornier Do X
- North American P-51 Mustang
- Beechcraft Baron G58
