Hello.
Because the MSFS installation drive failed,
I prepared a new SSD and reinstalled it from the Xbox app.
However, the moment the first loading screen appears and goes full screen, it CTDs. No process remains.
The contents of the event log are as follows.
Please help me.
Faulting application name: FlightSimulator.exe, version: 1.38.2.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

What I did to fix this problem is as follows:
-Uninstalled MSFS from the app settings and reinstalled it.
-Uninstalled all add-ons, etc.
-Disabled antivirus software.
-Run FlightSimulator.exe in administrator mode.
-Windows10 64bit Japanese
-mem:64GB
-CPU:i9-9900KS CPU @ 4.00GHz
-RTX4080
I would like to uninstall everything if possible, but there are folders that I don’t have permission to access, and I don’t know how to do that.
A clean uninstall is fine too.
Thank you in advance.
thank you.
I’m experiencing the same issue, and have tried rolling back the driver and using nvidia’s DDU, but nothing has worked.
Old MSFS files remain, so you may need to uninstall it completely.
Don’t forget to uninstall the nVidia app, the latest version of which is known to cause such CTDs, as well, then reboot.

I wrote above to uninstall the NVIDIA app and restart PC.
My FS2020 started crashing while loading a few days ago and I have been tearing my hair out trying to fix the problem. Today I updated my Nvidia driver to the latest (and installed the new app, maybe I shouldn’t have) and to my amazement FS2020 is loading again successfully. Maybe this will help somebody.

I couldn’t get it to work no matter what I did, so I installed Flight Simulator on a different drive and was able to start it successfully.
Thanks everyone for your advice.
Same thing is happening with me on my Xbox series S. Hasn’t been working since the release of the new sim.
THIS SOLVED IT FOR ME:
According to the community, this may be caused by the Nvidia App. The error is coming from the DLL 190_E658703.dll. See if this fixes your problem (temporarily since this DLL is coming back, but there is a second solution but you can test this one to see if this is your problem):
Win + R, this should open the run box, put this in the search bar: C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA\NGX\models
Then, go to the search bar in the upper right corner and search for or copy this name: 190_E658703
If it appears listed in the search, delete everything without exception (Shift + A then Shift + Del).

For the last three days msfs2020 has stopped working on both my pc and my Xbox series X. Have tried uninstalling on the Xbox but still crashes. They both start loading and check for updates but as soon as the 40th anniversary splash screen opens it crashes out. I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the app and windows 11 with no luck, have tried logging out and back in on the Xbox app and the store but no luck. Can anyone help me please. Msfs 2024 runs no problem at all on both units.

Good evening, I had this problem and as several users said I went back to using some drivers from a previous version but it still doesn’t work: with that and in the nvidia panel “optimizing” the game I solved it. I SUPPOSE IT WAS THAT I HAD DX 11 ACTIVATED with frame generation activated once “optimized” the game opened normally again.
This CTD comes back today 3 May 2025:

I’ve seen some posts that mention that DLL, and for other games too. It may be an issue with the Nvidia app. You could try a clean uninstall, then reinstall either a version newer or older than the one you have. I’m using 566.14 with the Nvidia app installed, and I’ve never seen that particular crash.

Thanks for your reply. I can try going back to what was working before. But I will miss all performance upgrades that comes with a newer driver. I think compatibility issues that are becoming blockers should be investigated.

Has to do with NVIDIA optimation.

Yes, I saw that when searching for resolution. It did not work for me. I had already the recommended settings there.
What helped me get back to the game with better graphics and game performance was to install
the following driver:
Nvidia “Leading Edge Driver”
version: 576.02 / 32.0.15.7602
with clean installation over
“Nvidia Recommended Driver”
version: 573.06 / 32.0.15.7306
Thanks Nvidia!
Thank you @meh1951, @hobanagerik for your prompt responses.
I hope it helps someone.

I can assure you that your brain is at least 1000 times better at optimizing games than a buggy Nvidia app. If the games are running fine, you don’t need to rely on the “optimized” label. You’ll get much better results by adjusting the graphics settings manually based on your preferences and performance goals.
That’s why the only reliable way to keep using all of the Nvidia App features without CTD is to switch from DX11 to DX12 in your usercfg.opt or alternatively select DX12 in MSFS 2020 graphics settings before installing the Nvidia App.

never said to use it…it was the cause of that error.
