On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being best), how do you rate your Overall Enjoyment of this aircraft?
Strange weight issue, by default the aircraft is loaded with passengers weighing 1000lb each. Now, I’m no doctor, but this isn’t healthy. This causes the entire aircraft to tip over, which I’ll admit gave me a chuckle. Can anyone else verify this?
On the plus side, I do love the tyre pressure and landing gear bending physics. Cool stuff.
There is a problem with the mouse pointer in VR. I see double cursors in most of the spots. Also the “VR Cockpit Focus” goes straight into the engine.
Maybe the collision mesh is missing or wrong?
It’s a pity, because the renewed Caravan could be a great one.
I keep getting the message the throttle is in somekind of safetylock. I need to press a button, which I don’t have because playing on and Xbox. It seems there’s no platform specific controls for this one.
No help for XBox but with my Honeycomb Bravo I bound the “button” at the lower end of my throttle to both Reduce Throttle AND Previous Detent and that gets me fluidly into reverse. I image it will work for feathering the prop too. No need for condition lever as there is no detent into cutoff.
Cannot dim the PFD lights at night. The displays will dim to a point, but then the function lights will get brighter at the same time. Would be nice to have the headlamp feature in a dark cockpit like in 2020. (Maybe it’s there, I just haven’t figured it out yet)! Also, upon landing, the aircraft seems to float forever. I don’t care what everyone says - I’m loving the new sim!
Prop governor issues: It should not require 1300+ ft/lb of torque to get on the prop governor (reach and hold prop 1900 RPM). I have over 2 years in the Caravan IRL and 500-600 ft/lb gets the 3 blade prop on the governor. Now adding a 4th blade may require a bit extra torque (or maybe not depending on actual blade characteristics) but I seriously doubt it would take a whopping 1300 ft/lb to reach max RPM. 600-800 is probably more accurate. Any guys with 4-blade 208 IRL experience feel free to chime in though.
The overspeed governor test button doesn’t work either. That should override the selected RPM if above 1750 and govern to that +/-60 RPM until the button is released. Actually being able to hit and hold 1900 RPM would be nice too.
Inertial separator- ITT should rise with the opening of the separator. Torque currently does drop, which is good (the time it takes for the torque to drop is pretty extreme though. it should be less than a second to drop). But there should be an accompanying ITT rise as well.
Cabin heat- Bleed air switch being on should have a torque drop and an accompanying ITT rise- rising further (with torque decreasing slightly) if the temperature knob selector is increased.
Mixing air- I noticed in the hot start aircraft the mixing air plunger is OUT where it should be IN. Not sure if it even works. It is only used on the ground at more or less taxi/idle power settings. Doesn’t get used much unless it is very cold outside and then only to supplement the bleed switch/temp knob for the first few minutes then its closed. It would never be on for takeoff as you’d almost certainly end up with an ITT exceedance.
I’m also really enjoying it, although I don’t know how this aircraft works in real life, but it’s much more complete than that 2020 Caravan. Regarding the Throttle detent on the Xbox, it’s a nuisance but it prevents you from accidentally going into reverse when using the gamepad. It has its advantages. But I agree that if there are any improvements to make the Caravan more realistic, it would be very good.
did someone managed to find a way around the detents for the throttle ? it’s causing me issues to be able to use the reverser with my honeycomb bravo
For those wanting a steam gauge “study level” Grand Caravan, there is one coming from Black Square. Not the same as in 2020, this is built from the ground up with bespoke sounds etc.
Was talking about the 208 in game which have 2 detent(1 between flight idle and ground idle, and 1 between ground idle and reverse), which means if I want to go to Ground Idle, I need to drop it down then bring it back immediately.
The physical axis i have one detent before the button.
Added hardware controller profiles (thanks to the folks above) and flew it today. Very nice step up from flying the default piston planes. I had’nt flown it in 2020 in many, many months. On to the VisionJet!
I have an issue with the autopilot. In my case, the airplane is not stable; it continuously banks a bit left and right while on autopilot, regardless of whether it’s in NAV or HDG mode. This happens only with the Caravan, based on what I’ve tested so far.
