MSFS2024 - Server Connection is absolutely unstable

honestly, if I as a validation engineer did my job as bad as they do it in the MSFS team, if they even have any, i’d be out of a job.

And again, since about 1400/1500 UTC nothing works. Did some nice flights before but once mid afternoon bandwidth messages popped up and I landed at a blurry EDDM which looked worse than FS4 and by now I can start 2024 but not any free flight, stuck with circles… I opend a ticket, answer is as follows:

“We have received multiple reports from users living in Germany about long loading times and other connection issues. This issue is being investigated on our side and so far, the most likely culprit is the ISP’s throttling the traffic between you and Microsoft servers. When you are flying, you are downloading multiple gigabytes of of data per hour so ISP’s can flag this traffic and enforce bandwidth caps/throttling to limit the amount of data transfer per hour. For now, the workaround is to just use a VPN to a different world region to circumvent these restrictions.”

Ok, so microsoft can pay for a VPN for me then…

For those Telekom Germany users, search:

Is Telekom throttling?
( read various finds, not just nordvpn )
&
Telekom Fair Use Policy
-many complaints here, most notably is that they inflate(purposely or in error…) usage then limit speed.

don’t believe this. because network usage on my end for MSFS goes down to some 200kbit/s while at the same time everything else runs at 5 to 15Mbit/sec like AppleTV, WebEx, Teams etc. what I use often in parallel
EDIT that is on a 100MBit line, so there is enough room for MSFS

It appears Germany has the highest issues streaming 2024 since release, not verified, but the number of forum posts do seem to be much higher than other areas.

If a vpn is solving the issue, then something is going on.
And no, if a vpn is needed, it’s not a ms problem.

I dont even know how to describe this

it summarises everything that has been written on msfs2024.
Total failure.

Over an 100Mb/s Fibre you have maximally 40Gb per hour download.
So the question is: how much do you need to stream to fly over a hi-res New York City?
My guess would be that maps and all photogrammetry and then the airport would easily reach that.

may all be. yet 2024 works for some hours flawlessly and at around 1400/1500UTC it comes to a stop. I had complete days prior to patch 3 without any streaming issues at all. MSFT acknowledged there are multiple reports and they are investigating.

Now the 3rd day not able to fly a single minute! MICROSOFT fix your SERVERS. No word, no answers nobody cares. Utilized download speed of max. 250 - 350kb/s upload around 9-15Kb/s. And nothing from the support page works. Only thing i could not test is VPN cuz i have non.

In the main time from early afternoon to the evening no way of playing the Sim.
I’m more then just disappointed.

No realtime / multiplayer traffic at the moment.. is anyone else experiencing the same?

Reinstalled everything again, no addons, no mods. MSFS2024 worked for about 5 minutes into the flight. After that no scenery at all, landed on a mushy plane with PAPI lights sticking out.
Bizarre.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes - it happens at random, just as described.

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• I think this picture speaks for itself:

I have (5 minutes ago) pressed “Fly now” and am now looking at Munich from above while the necessary data is very slowly loading. I also got the notorious warning about “Low Internet Bandwidth”. This is the 2nd flight I started, for the 1st flight I got about 50 Megabit/s, which was fast enough.
This is happening with a 100 Megabit VDSL access. provided by Deutsche Telekom in Munich, Germany.

Some contributors suspect it is DT throttling my data rate. I cannot disprove that, but:

  • I regular use other services (Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Qobuz) for to download many Gigabytes of data, without ever experiencing any “throttling”.
  • Resetting my router and the Internet connection does not help.
  • Also, sometimes the data rate recovers for some time, then drops again.

All that does not point to ISP throttling going on, but rather (assuming it is not the servers who are temporarily overloaded, something only Microsoft can know) to a network problem, maybe some load balancers which are not properly configured, maybe the servers are just placed in the wrong location. (Why not use some of the servers you have in Germany?) That is all under Microsoft’s control.

I don’t know if this is the right topic, I’m actually no longer sure of anything with this software…

I’ve been getting this message all the time for a while now.
ERROR WHEN ACCESSING LIVE AIR TRAFFIC DATA. NEW ATTEMPT…

That’s a Non Sequitur. Microsoft does not run just one server in one location, they run lots of servers and their own network infrastructure, which is connected with the public internet in several places all over the world. It is quite possible that a problem in that setup only affects users in some countries. To be fair, the MSFS team probably just ordered a certain amount of data storage and bandwith, and another department within Microsoft set it up for them. So they have to go back to that other team to find out what’s wrong, why German users have more problems (I remember there were also some initial complaints about UK users having similar problems, not sure whether that’s fixed now.)

As posted above, I’m experiencing exactly the same thing. Intermittent messages and no live traffic.

I experienced the worst day today since launch. Having a 175 connection, nothing gets loaded under 10 minutes. Shutting down FS only possible via Task Manager. Some flight school missions aren’t even clickable. Still have the no-go bug for helicopters - they just fly into one direction: the floor (with Thrustmaster Airbus Stick and Quadrant). At least a statement about peripherals bugs or better and stable server connections would bring a silver line on the horizon! Asobo and MS: when can we expect getting the experience we paid you for? #Rant over#

For all of you who haven’t done so already:
Check out this thread. It specifically deals with low bandwidth issues in Germany and provides a simple solution by changing DNS servers to cloudflare or google.

Worked very well in my case. My first days on MSFS2024 were misery when it comes to bandwidth but now everything’s working perfectly.

I had the same helicopter issue. They mapped the flapps or speedbrake Axis of the Thrustmaster to mixture for helicopters! So the mixture was always 0% and the engine shuts down immediately. After i unbound this axis I could fly helicopters.

On Topic: same issue since the patch. Incredibly slow.
