How is this applicable within MSFS or how do we activate this feature??
I have been a user of the Navigraph for a long time now (mainly due to my fav airport Queenstown not having the key arrival ‘RNP 23’ and a number of other key airports having missing STARS/SIDS) having just helped installing this game for a friend and seeing that it’s still not an option within the defult ‘IFR flight plan’ and being a bit confused with the above statement??
Is there something I’m not seeing or activating within the game? Can I now look to one day cancelling my navigraph subscription?
If it says that the new AIRAC cycle is implemented and have seen it a couple of times over the last number of updates (I have been using navigraph for a while now)… does that mean missing STARS/SIDS will appear
If you’re using Navigraph, it doesn’t matter. Your AIRAC supersedes whatever Microsoft puts in the sim. That’s the way you want it because Microsoft takes forever to update to the latest AIRAC so “real-world” apps like Foreflight are more likely to match up better with the Navigraph data.
You get the latest available at time of MSFS update
If you have Navigraph you can keep MSFS updated but you need to install the Navigraph Nav Data Center which will inject the latest into the sim.
It’s important to note that the Nav Data Center will not automatically update MSFS, you need to launch it when the new AIRAC is released and update it.
Then if you use things like LittleNavMap, Pilot2ATC, Etc… you need to install Navigrapgh FMS Manager to update those.
Important steps need to be taken however to prevent the loss of your Navigraph Data.
@Part121 is only partly correct. Navigraph data only supercedes the MSFS data IF you run the Navigraph Data Center AFTER the monthly MSFS AIRAC update. Otherwise your data will be over written.
FYI Microsoft releases the nav data on the same monthly cycle as the real world data.
@skypilotYTS is correct. Run your Nav Data Center and then also update any ancillary software that uses the same data.
I got my mate MSFS last week and everything is stock standard, I decided to show him something cool and got him the A32nx and do the incredible RNP23 approach using autopilot.
I have navigrah on my PC and did the usual on simbrief, then showed him how to set it up through the game, but saw that, that approach and remembered that a good number of SIDs and STARS are non existent through the default flight plan and remembered the reason why I got navigrah. I was considering getting him a couple of months of navigrah…
After reading through the update release notes, I notice that it says that there are updates to AIRAC cycles. Just wondering if these updates actually show up in the msfs flight planning
Tool and do these updates include missing SIDS and STARS
You can easily check that yourself by temporarily removing Navigraph navdata using Navigraph Navdata Center. My experience is that there can be differences, which is why I use Navigraph everywhere.
CONUS NavBlue data (stock sim) has been supplemented with FAA data for a few AIRAC cycles now. It’s not infalliable, but you will be hard pressed to find missing approaches in the CONUS compared to Navigraph.
Navigraph still has better data outside CONUS and of course, provides Jepp charts as a subscription option. And you can integrate your Jepp charts option into stock planes such as the CJ4 FMS as well as certain Third Party aircraft.
That’s really what the practical considerations boil down to in terms of NavData.
