That’s always the risk if the actual issue lies within those folders. Be careful to test the content manager updates individually or you may end up with the same problem.

Only downloading a couple of planes and USA right now which is 10gb. Also Las vegas. Just flying KLAS to KSFO for now when it finishes. Download the rest each night when going to bed.

Yes the page file is a tricky one because you never know when or what. Admittedly I “only 
” have 32gb ram but I had my page set at a fixed 10GB which was fine until one time I got a paging error warning preceding a very rare CTD. After upping it to 15gb I’ve had no further problems. With 64gb there shouldn’t be a problem but there has to be a virtual cache as Windows uses it for more than just an overflow e.g telemetry.

yep, 32gb is different situation than 64gb 
… but just never disable it at all. And if users like full dumps, the pagefile needs of course increased.

Just reporting back on my latest findings.
I thought I had found a solution a few days ago. Thinking through why I would get one good run after a GFX driver install, and then fails thereafter, I did some tests with my antivirus and antimalware software.
I run MS AV and Malwarebytes, and they have never caused a problem. I thought I had all the sim folders (data and program) excluded from these apps, but found that the px xbox MSFS folder was not excluded.
I excluded that and had 12-12 good sessions over the next few days with no more GFX overheating blx errors.

Haven’t used it for the last two days cos I have a life 
Jumped on it tonight. Nothing has changed since the last good session.
Now it doesn’t start again, but with a different symptom. The initial pictorial opening screen comes up, then it goes to the full screen black window, and that’s it. Stuck solid. Tried many times.
Even tried with my AV and antimalware disabled. And tried reinstalling the latest driver yet again.
Nope. It now won’t run again.
Every other prog on my system continues to run perfectly, including some very heavyweight timing critial, 3d accelerated apps.
But MSFS is entirely unreliable/unusable.
It’s Friday evening, and as usual I got the email to join Asoboi for a community fly with the twitch session. WELL I’D LOVE TO dear MS. BUT I CAN’T. for 12 weels now.
Oh and someone commented that I’m still running an 'old GTX1080Ti. Yes I am, and it runs this sim with most settings on Ultra at a sustained 30fps with smooooth graphics at 2560x1440 on a 5 monitor system (only one for MSFS). Nothing wrong with my GFX card. I just have to keep the live traffic stuff off.
I have the same problems, with the difference that my crashes are not CTD. In my case, the screen remains black, and Windows is disabled, having to unplug the computer to restart.
These problems have been registered occasionally since the penultimate update of MSFS, and with the last update (1.30.12) I have not been able to do even a single flight.
My PC is AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB DDR4 RAM, RTX 3060 GPU, simulator installed on a 500Gb SSD, running Win 10 X64.
My GPU drivers are up to date.
Tried clearing rolling cache, adding FastLaunch, running simulator as Administrator, reinstalling simulator from scratch, deleted files from SceneryIndexes, SceneryCache and DCE folders, deleted NVidia temp files, tried uninstalling GeForce Experience, updating sound card drivers , uninstalling and reinstalling the GPU drivers, deleting everything in the Community folder, starting the simulator with no command attached, changing the sound to “spatial sound” (windows sonic for headphones), and always the same result: black screen after clicking “Fly”.
Until the penultimate update, I had never experienced a hang. On my PC I use several applications, both audio and design, that were installed before I started using the simulator, and the only application I have these problems with is MSFS.
I understand the complexity of this program, but it is very frustrating not to find something that solves this problem that since the last update has not allowed me to make a single flight.
It would be great if Asobo or whoever it is, makes a patch that restores the simulator and allows us to use it.
in case you cleaned all known local files/folders and you can be sure its not a system problem, the only thing what left is to cleanup the cloud files ( with all disadvantages ). I remember topic where user get that if they switch back from the beta, but also in some other situations ( and seems in special ms-store users , but my ‘feeling’ might be wrong here ).
Of course the mentioned Anti-Virus-Tool as “bad boy” should be checked too. Would be not the first case one where such a tool kill MSFS.
Thanks for the answer, but I have already done what you indicated. I do not have any type of malware control application installed, they are notorious for slowing down PC performance. Everything I have installed is before I started using MSFS, and everything worked fine, until the penultimate update, and with the last one, I couldn’t directly do a single flight.

Otherwise not sure. As mentioned, if you have tried all you can find in the forum about “black screen” and also from FAQ pages, then the cloud-data is the only one which is left. We have also rare cases, where while the update of msfs seemingly invalid files comes onto the disc ( caused not ensured from the installer ) and caused in that way issues, but you reinstalled msfs already.
And a note: try allways different airports and airplanes , not that a specific ones cause the issue ( we had already similar cases )
As an antivirus, I use NOD32, which in case any program needs internet access, notifies it and has an exception for MSFS.
Since the Community folder is empty, I do the tests with the default planes.
Today I installed updated sound card drivers in an attempt to see if that might be the problem, but all still the same.
I have the peace of mind that my system is healthy, because I work on my PC doing graphic design and I use some audio applications, and they all work perfectly.
I think I will wait for a new simulator update to see if these problems that prevent me from using it are solved.
oh… I have somewhat in mind… ESET… that thing was long time trouble maker number one, related to antivirus tools. Also I remember users added msfs in exclusion list, but it still blocked somewhat ( disabled realtime protection or uninstall helped the users, but its a while ago )
Sound-drivers, hmm… yes… was also often responsible for much trouble, but thought then we seen specific error messages in windows event log.
My own CTD seemed related to airport data. I kept getting CTD at NZWP. Some people got CTD at Dublin. The moment I switched airport everything was fine.
At first I thought the problem arose from the New Zealand WU. I tried everything: updated C++, connect/disconnect from my account, updated NVidia drivers, turned graphics down, switched plane from a complex to a simple one, tried a FPL with/without point of interests, tried without FPL, tried with/without ATC, tried in safe mode/normal mode, switched Kaspersky off, etc…, nothing worked. Every time I got on the taxiway close to one of the entry points of the runway… CTD. If I tried the other entry point it was CTD when I started taking off.
I then switched airport to one in another country and the sim worked fine. Went back to NZ and tried another airport, went fine also. The sim really disliked NZWP. Didn’t try every airport in the sim naturally but my conclusion is this: there is some data in or around some airports that the sim really dislike and doesn’t know what to do with. Could be terrain, could be airports. Asobo has to find out what it is and write some code to check and repair every airport, or terrain around airports, in the sim with faulty data or modify MSFS so that it is not sensitive to that type of data.
Did a few flights and everything was nice. Personally I wouldn’t blame Asobo for faulty terrain data. I wouldn’t be surprised if some third party supplied up to date terrain data to Asobo and some errors crept in.

Hi, I tryed disabling NOD, and the result was the same. Click on flight, start to load, and next: black screen with Windows totally crashed.
To me black screens have always suggested graphics difficulties, games switching resolutions or conflicting features between menu’s etc. E.g. I aways get a blackscreen and CTD if I toggle image scaling on or off in NVCP.
I purchased FS two days ago and I can’t get it to work, CTD at launch during loading just after it asks me whether I want to run in safe mode or normal mode…

I hope your install was to an NTFS formatted drive or it won’t work. If that’s not it then visit the MS store and update everything especially anything xbox … restart your PC and try again.
For me I have one local disk and it is NTFS formated.
