In context of MSFS 2020 the answer is neither of those processors would be as good as the 7800x3d.
Thanks a lot, hopefully one last thing, what about the rx 7900xt as this is on a 200 pounds sale, it also has 20gb vram compared to the 4070 super’s 12?
12th gen has not been reported to have the degradation issues. That was limited to 13th and 14th gen. I do agree they are not going to be as good as the 7800x3d, though.
Claiming that ANY 12000 series Intel processor is subject to degradation is simply false. This includes the i9-12900 series.
Personally, I’m waiting for the i9-14900k to go on sale - a 5 year warranty on the cpu is better than anyone outside of mainframes is offering.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying my i7-12700k (bought on sale, works great, no recalls issued).
And what about gpu?
Either the 4070 super or the 7900xt as it is around 200 pounds off and has about double the vram?
Take the 4070ti super. More powerful, 16GB on board. Relatively close to the 4080.
The 4070ti super is way above my budget as it is not in sale
What is the monitor resolution? FHD/2K 4070super should be enough. My 4070 handles 2K quite well. High settings, somewhere on ultra.
1080p but plan to upgrade to 1440p sometime in the future.
Just thought since the 7900xt is only 40 pounds more expensive than the 4070 super with double the ram and 200 pounds off RRP this is worth it?
Also I’ve heard that msfs is quite vram intensive so the extra should help?
Thx for clarifying… little phone screens when I’m out and about don’t agree with me sometimes!
Absolutely! The 7900xt will out preform the 4070 Super in almost all cases and like you said has more vram (12 gig is not enough if you are purchasing new). See chart from Tom’s Hardware below. Note the 4070 Ti Super is about on par to the 7900xt but still has less vram.
Oh wow, okay thanks seems like I’ll be going with that then, just hope the 7800x3d drops in price soon. It started at £320 then went to £420 and now its down to £400. Fingers crossed.
I recommend that you consider the 9800x3d which has just been released by AMD since you are buying new. It has unseated the 7800x3d as king of the hill for gaming. The reason why the price of the 7800x3d has gone up and is hard to find is because of the release of the 9800x3d. The 9800x3d retails for $479 in the U.S. (not sure about UK) and if you search in this forum you will find multiple threads that give it positive reviews like this one.
You can also check out this review as to why the 9800x3d would be better than the 7800x3d for gaming.
Hmm thanks for the suggestion I’ll just have to see how things work out with other items reducing for black Friday but will definitely look into this. Do you reckon this or the better gpu would be a more worthwhile investment. Providing i can only get one or the other?
Thanks,
Jack
I would say get the better gpu as that will make a bigger impact. Having the 20gig vram will future proof you.
Makes sense, thanks for the response! will bear that in mind.
Thanks,
Jack.
On tech alpha test my gpu (rtx4070) was on it’s limits, i mean 100% gpu usage and 95-99% power usage (have 7800x3D) at the canyon area. When i try to open Framegeneration i manage to get only 6-7fps, 64 to 71fps. CPU core usage was great. Both cpu and gpu temps way more higher than msfs2020 tests, it was like tech alpha build was using everything available way better. Try to get a better GPU for msfs2024 <3 And for better, just wait release and user tests.
Hi, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all you for helping out here.
To let you know, I ended up going with a 7900xt, the 7800x3d and 32gb ddr5 6000mhz ram. Hopefully this was a good choice, now all that’s left is to hopefully not fumble the build on Christmas day in 8 days.
Again thanks again if you read this,
Jack
