I think M$ should change the way they distribute this sim.
Given the download debacle, and that some of us have ISP limitations, and the cost of the product, I feel that if an install of FS2020 were to fail five times across a network, ASOBO / M$ should send us the complete sim on a USB Flash drive.
I hope you are joking, right? But nope, because its not their fault if your ISP has limitations, they make clear before purchase, on the requirements that an active internat conneciton is required. Also download size is quite clear.
On the other hand, if they give an option for you to PURCHASE a usb with the update (or even a DVD - how quaint) that might be possible, but genuinly unrealistic, due to lead times.
Just as a side note to what @SenseiLeNoir said, some of the most well known professional software packages costing thousands of dollars, are distributed via download.
Love the idea Andrew. I am about to give up ever getting this program on my PC. One file will not download no matter how slow the connection has to be. I have reduced the speed to 5Kbps and it still fails. FS2020 is a hole on my hard drive presently as I have hit my limit for the month at 1Tb, due to incessant stop starts and failures. I am fed up with changing settings and trying things to appease othersâŠI am the Customer and this should workâŠwhich it does not. âŠOther software I own comes with installation media sent after purchase, and Windows is available on a flash drive, so how about it?
I dont think the issue for the OP is the fact that the program is digitally distributed (most are nowadays, including Windows, Office, Photoshop etc), but the fact that his/her internet connection is either too slow or unreliable, and as such is suggesting that Microsoft should now be obliged to send the game and or updates to him on USB, which is totally unrealistic! (to put it politely)
You may be havign issues due to your ISPs packet sizes, or maybe you may have made a change to your networking stackâs packet size to help with pings. This is fairly known, and if you look in the forum there is a solution for that, and you need to type something in. Search the forums.
Though if you are hitting 1TB a month, have you considered that maybe⊠just maybe its yoru ISP that is putting brakes? Thast a LOT of downloads for a personal user. Trust me, we watch 4K netflix/amazon prime, and many other stuff, run multipel computers on our net, have CCTV, and woudl not even reach half that.
I thought 1 TB was a lot also. And it is. But, Win 10 by default will help itself to your internet connection by sharing update files to other people on the internet via a built-in peer-to-peer sharing system. Turn that off. I did and our usage went back to normal after installing new win10 on one new pc in our house (that stays on 24/7).
That WOULD explain it! I have set it to off for this very reason, i have a large pipe, but i think the algorthim also detects that i have a large internet pipe, and i got elected far more than i wished. I dont have limits on my net, but when it starts affecting my streaming, I stopped that.
As i said in my original message, either yourself, or someone (or even an app) may have made a change to your network stack that causes issues. Try the above, and see if it works. (its from zendesk itself)
I have no idea what the statistics are for users having problems or not with downloading are, but no problems here. Iâm not seeing how its Microsofts fault and I donât see that theyâll change the delivery method given that theyâve already sold over 2 million.
I feel for those having problems downloading, and with a major update later today I donât want to say it could never effect me.
I guess most people will not realize that internet services in Australia are pretty sub-par. I envy you guys in Europe and the States for the stability that you manage to get. But there have been other strange factors with this sim that cannot be explained by issues with my ISP.
Case in question; installing the previous update, it somehow wiped my sim off of my computer altogether, and I have read of others having similar issues to me. Itâs also been bandied around that we should have the option to update or not. Whilst some updates may be tempting for having additional content, if your sim is stable, and then an update breaks it, what then?
Iâve worked in IT over 25 years, and I take care of my computers, but I have never experienced an application that behaves this way. Iâm nervous about the next update, but once again, I have no option but to accept it.
For those of you who have dismissed my suggestion, I guess youâre on easy street. After all, if a component for your car is delivered broken, wouldnât you expect a replacement? And for the naysayers who talk about other applications being installed and sent online, how many are really as big as FS2020?
I respect everybodyâs views, but my point here is that FS2020 is NOT a $20 game, and we should all have a few options available to us.
is this a joke?
You can buy the DVDs
The game in its online form is made out by synthesis from a lot of data and data sources (terrain elevation, terrain textures ,buildings, weather, navigation, live traffic and what not) Not only that the game is made live but the data from Bing comes from a pool of several petabytes and the idea to have it on a flashdrive is preposterous.
Two things will happen faster in the future than seeing MFS on flashdrives⊠1. you will get better internet (look up). 2. Game might go cloud altogether at some point.
I have no problems downloading and also fortunately have unlimited at about 400Mbps. My package is suppose to be 400 but speedtest always reports much higher speed. Usually not lower the 450Mbps.
But I can see how 1TB can be used up. I have a lot of security cameras and also stream a lot of the stuff that I watch. The last two months I exceeded 1TB but only by an average of 125GB. My security cameras eat up a lot of bandwidth.
I have xFinity and I believe they recently up their plans to 1.2 GB. I use to have the 1TB limit and for $10 a month more got unlimited by renting their modem. Without their modem, they wanted $50 more a month. Donât understand their logic, but $10 a month more for unlimited was aa no brainer.
It might be a nice option to have major updates available via a physical media subscription model. But I worry that it might be prohibitively expensive.
The real issue is ISP price gouging and data caps where they have a monopoly. I donât see the ISPâs changing this policy without legislation so in this case I would contact your elected representatives.
Where I live there are two top tier ISPâs to choose from so it keeps prices low and neither have bandwidth limitations.
What? where I live you get 500Mbs (up and down) for reasonable prices and I know of no western European country with ISPs that have caps or limits, some of the skeevy ones in the UK might but thatâs the UK for you.
Isnât a ISP âcapâ just a cheaper broadband package which is good because it allows people who otherwise wouldnât be able to afford broadband an cheap entry - are there any ISPâs in the UK that donât offer an unlimited service?
I think the US is comparible to the UK anyway and well behind some of the European countries.
