New Release: dc-designs-pt17-stearman

Just add 200lbs to the copilot

The manual says anything over 100lbs will do it if you’d like to retain slightly more climb performance haha

Really happy with this purchase. Great aircraft to enjoy your favorite parts of the world. Thanks for including the RCAF livery!

Several requests have been incorporated folks - tried to capture as many of them as I could in this screenshot:

Windscreen frames thinned
Elevators now full-width of tail-plane
Wing support beams now aerofoil shaped
Radial engine crank-case reshaped for accuracy
Prop spin direction corrected
Rain distortion bug on glass corrected ( being tested at present to ensure )
Exhaust interiors now matt black

Hope to see the update released by Friday - one of the benefits of launching with the good folks at Just Flight - fast updates

BTW, the ā€˜Keyboard’ Autopilot appears to work.
Currently headed due North at 1,300’ over Southern England & it is holding Altitude & Heading.

Do we know when this is getting released in the store?

Any chance to buy at flightsim.com store? I don’t want too many purchase sites, tbh. Would be my first payware aircraft in the sim (currently only sceneries). Thank you!

Just Flight will typically send an aircraft to other third party stores after a couple of weeks, so it won’t be too long before you can pick it up there :+1:

Same experience for me. With throttle cut to idle, the plane should slow down much faster, the crate has a lot of drag! Side slip does not realy help:sink rate is higher,ok. But airspeed is not realy affected even in a pronounced slip. In consequence…
You come in too fast and flare from ā€œMoscow to Wladiwostokā€ before you touch down.
Would be great to check the flight model in these respects.

Is this some kind of IN Joke between you both or are you actually saying this?

I commented on YouTube that I feel that the wheels/tyres might be a little small. Anyone else think so? And I think her roll rate would put a Pitts Special to shame. However, I think the soundset is one of the best on MSFS so far.

Wonderful. Thank you for the speedy modifications. A little request: Any chance you could ramp up the sound level of the start and idle a bit?

Glad you are enjoying the VR experience. Could you state wether cockpit focus mode has been implemented. You know, the old right mouse button when looking at the dash.

Hi folks,

Stearman updates sent to Just Flight this morning and are live - I think you might have to wait for an e-mail from JF notifying you it’s ready to download though.

Most observations on the visual model in terms of accuracy and my modeling errors have been fixed as per previous posts. Tail wheel lock will follow in a future update as I’d like to see that properly functional. For aerodynamics, we’re holding fire at the moment - the John Mohr videos available clearly show that in the right hands the snap-roll rate of the stock Stearman is quite remarkable for such an old airplane, so it’s probably not as far off as many folks think. I suspect the lack of drag might be due to engine / propeller parasitic drag increasing on the real aircraft as power / RPM is reduced, rather than a lack of drag from the airframe itself. I’m not sure of the best way to do this at the moment without upsetting the aircraft’s rather nicely balanced aerobatic capability, but we’l definitely look at this in the future.

Enjoy! There will be further updates of course, mostly focusing on increasing the detail levels overall and tweaking some cockpit texturing to be more worn / realistic. I need to find a better ā€œhand-writtenā€ font for the cockpit labelling also.

That is all great news. What about few more polygons on the wingtips and vertical stabilizer? A quick fix that would improve the overall fidelity IMHO… I am a pain in the ā– ā– ā– , i know, but i had to ask.

I’ll be doing that too - I hadn’t noticed them myself, but have made a note to sort it :+1:

Awesome, I will try that after work. Thanks for your work. I’ve read some really bad things here and there and don’t really understand why.
I’ve even read yesterday in one ā€œpedanticā€ french forum that we, people who like your plane, are casual gamers or something like that. It maybe true at some point. I’m am a gamer. But also practicing flight simming since, ahem.. don’t remember when :relaxed:.. Having lots of hours on advanced add-ons like PMDG, A2A and many more in FS2004 and FSX and even P3D.
But when I find a nice little plane like yours, and for a real fair price, I’m very happy to jump in and have a lot of pleasure and relaxing moment for maybe one hour after an exhausting day.
And I’m also very happy to know that little company like yours are still in the ā€œgameā€ to provide us some nice and unexpected surprises lilke this fun and delighful Stearman.

 You know, I’m French, but I can’t agree more on that

All of my aircraft are aimed at casual gamers - the rivet-counters don’t like that, apparently, but seem unable to keep it to themselves. I prefer to make airplanes that everybody can enjoy, and leave the study-level stuff to others, as that’s what they prefer to do. Simples.
