Another much-needed US airport. Not sure how this performs in FS2024 as a lot of their scenery seems unoptimised for the new sim, despite being labelled as compatible. Last week they pushed an update for KTUL that apparently addressed that airport’s FS2024 performance so you’d have thought this project would’ve received the same treatment.
Actually from the trailer this one looks very nice. Maybe I’ll give F2H another chance after the rather average KRSW and KJAN. Unfortunately not released yet.
Their texturing and modelling often looks really good but they seem pretty stagnant as a developer. Savannah is terrible but Harlingen is passable (quite nice, even, apart from the gaps in the perimeter fence). I don’t own any others so can’t comment on their latest work, e.g. KTUL and this new KBHM.
One thing’s for sure: their trailers seem carefully crafted to show the pros but hide the cons!
The airport and the surroundings are nice, but the LOD optimization is as terrible as we are used to from Fly2High.
Note the difference between these two pictures and note that this is the distance where gate markers and the angled roof of the terminal become invisible! This is with a RTX 5090.
If Fly2High had used their airport at least once for a normal flight, they must have noticed that.
Which is sad, because they are filling a great niche of airports, that I really appreciate. But this apparent lack of standards and quality make me angry… You can’t even see that gate numbers from the apron, that is staggering…
That’s really annoying because I like many aspects of their airports.
It’s only a temporary solution, but as already mentioned in the New Haven thread, I recommend installing the 2020 version. I’m relatively sure that the gate numbers are visible in this version.
Am I the only one put off by their bringing out 2024 versions without any upgrade pricing? I had just bought two airports of theirs when not but two weeks later he/she/they release ‘v2’ at full price. May be its my fault for not knowing everything there is to know about everything everywhere all at once…
hmmm… but, for now, Fly2High has lost a customer. I used to have little problem with most of the products. It was only some that had bad aerial imagery included that I didn’t want.
And still plenty of LOD issues they didn’t fix with TUL. In fact, the LOD update broke the night lighting in the cockpit…. Kills me when these devs don’t do more testing.
Well, after the positivity of Tweed it’s back to business as usual for Fly2. Where to start… boy…
One thing I want to say first off is that this airport generally looks good. Textures are nice and Fly2 are now at least fully modelling their terminal landsides (albeit without too many fixed or mobile assets such as signage, vehicles or passengers). But look a little closer and it becomes a mess…
The LOD is the worst I’ve ever seen. It degrades as you get closer, which is NOT the purpose of LOD! In fact, entire sections of the terminal roof just vanish, making it look more like an open-air market than an airport terminal! The internal development also just randomly disappears, leaving behind an empty shell.
Then there’s the river crossing a taxiway. And the incompatibility with AI traffic (I arrived circa 1700, using BATC, and there was only a single Cessna Citation, parked at an airline gate!). There are no selectable arrival procedures, which is a common theme with Fly2 airports (see this thread: Fly2High Airports - No Approaches in MCDU)
It doesn’t matter how nice an airport looks at first glance if it’s completely broken. Having been stung on numerous occasions now by this dev, this will definitely be the last time. I have requested a refund.
