New Release: Pilot's Boeing B314 "The Clipper" Flying Boat

Apologies. I wasn’t aware of 2 versions.

I’ve managed to find a suitable, discrete place to house the GNS in the B-314’s cockpit:

This puts the GNS within easy reach of the B-314’s Captain in forward view, without the unit being hidden from view by the rather large control yoke structure.

I was thinking that spot would work, but I thought maybe there wasn’t room so I didn’t mention it. That’s a perfect place for it!

Are you planning on two cockpit configs, with and without? Or the ability to turn it off from a tablet?

I like the tablet implementations that put the tablet in a pocket on the side, and you click on it and it comes into view, and you can drag it around, or it sits in an out of the way location, like under the window on the left in this case. That would allow people to configure it on and off.

Then again, I’m not averse to the easier implementation of controlling it’s existence per livery with panel.cfg files. But I know you have to deal with the “Other devs do it, why can’t you!?” attitude some customers have.

I’m in the “I like the cockpit like it was!” crowd, but I know other people would like a GNS in the cockpit, since, if there was one flying today, there probably would be.

I suppose this sort of toggle was what I had in mind when I asked for a GNS initially.

I’d hate for people to be turned off because it’s not period correct.

Edit: I also know I’m in the minority on this, so if the overall consensus is that it should be left out, so be it.

It’s aircraft like this that beg for a shared cockpit sim experience.

C’mon Asobo, you can do it.

We don’t have the resources and time to add a tablet at this stage, and for all the B-314 purists, we wish to keep the B-314 featuring the GNS completely separate from the original.

I have now added two additional clickspots on the Gyropilot Panel, one that will allow the Pitch Mode (degrees) to be switched to a Vertical Speed Mode (ft/min), and the other clickspot will allow Altitude Hold Mode to be switched on and off, for those of you that wish to use it. Here is a short video showing that:

You will also notice in the video, that the GP Pitch Rate sometimes suddenly jumps to 0.0 degrees, that is to show the right-click Pitch Mode Reset I added, since the pitch can only be incremented by 0.2 degrees at a time (defined as such by Asobo) and will sometimes go to a x.1 value during mode switching, making a value of 0.0 impossible after that.

If all goes according to plan, this will end the v1.70 Beta phase and will be released as v1.72, I’m confident (fingers crossed) that this should make it out in time for the weekend.

Please note that v1.72 will not yet include any GNS version, as there is quite a bit of work left to do to implement and test that.

Has anyone had success downloading the new material? I tried to do it last night but did not see anything related to v1.70 under “my downloads” on the website. Still gave the old girl a spin around San Francisco and enjoyed the short flight. Would really like to benefit from the improvements that are being made.

I’m not quite sure why you can’t see the PILOT’S B-314 v1.70 Beta in your downloads folder, it’s pretty clear that it’s in there:

It’s marked as v1.70 Beta 3, right below the v1.62. Perhaps you didn’t look in the correct folder?

Please see above post.

I think it could be due to purchasing through marketplace… that’s a bummer. Is there any way to make that available to ones that have bought through MSFS?

We can’t, I’ve explained that in a post above already, please see here:

Getting anything to be available at the MSFS Marketplace takes a week or more from the time that we upload it to there. At our own shop it’s a matter of minutes, and we have full control of the process.

Jerome

I see. Will you eventually release the stable update version to marketplace? Forgive me if that is what you meant but I read it as you couldn’t release “beta” builds to marketplace. I understand wanting to be in control of the time aspect but I think customers, myself included, would be willing to wait for the update.

Well yes, as soon as a stable version is ready for release, we not only make it available immediately at our own webstore, we also upload it straight away to the MSFS Marketplace, where it is then ingested and available once the individual submission processing stages are complete.

Oh excellent. That is perfect, I was just concerned that it would never make it to marketplace and I would miss out on it. I really like the Clipper and have read so much about it that I would love to be able to spend more time flying it. Thanks for the work you’ve done and for getting back to me on those concerns.

The Clipper is out on marketplace

That’s correct, our PILOT’S Boeing B-314 - The Clipper release for PC has been available at the MSFS Marketplace since May 2023, and the Xbox version was released now too at the MSFS Marketplace within the last 24 hours:

I was able to finalize the PILOT’S Boeing B-314 - The Clipper v1.72 for PC earlier on this afternoon, and it should be available at our own webshop within the next 24 hours, other webshops within the next few days, and hopefully at the MSFS Marketplace for both PC and Xbox within the next week or so.
