Hi. It will always be bolts around a window. That way, after you smash a bird against them at 200 kts, mechanics can easily change the window. Just for sake of keeping things in perspective here.
Obviously yes.
Ugh. Look at those ■■■■■■ textures. When will reality catch up with my personal standards?
Super-anxious to see the update! think the plane looks just fine — if you’re actually flying it, you’re not judging minute texture details or noticing an occasional polygon, you’re watching the instruments and the terrain and managing things. This is MSFS, not DeviantArt.
But I understand some of us take joy from flying, others get their entertainment from judging screenshots. To each their own.
As mentioned, unless it is really bad I tend to ignore things that make it look like it is rendered on a computer… especially if part of an effort to keep the entire model from bogging down frame rate to a crawl.
I would much rather have a good flight model and good systems depth, and will gladly trade “pretty good pictures” for “pretty good performance.”
Cheers!
I am having difficulty getting the Autopilot to ‘take’
I’ve followed the RedWing YouTube video L1049 Autopilot checklist steps that are listed on the RHS of the video, but can’t get the Gyro Red Light to extinguish, indicating the AP is ‘live’.
Are there any quirks or steps not in the video that get the AP to work?

OK… Just flew the 1.8 update and I am somewhat disappointed. I am sure the failures are great, but I haven’t yet tried them.
Here are the issues I have spotted:
-
The aircraft is listed in the menu as MANUFACTURER.AIRCRAFT (or whatever those default variables are set to)… no longer shows as Lockheed Super Constellation. How difficult was that to spot? Anyone else? I had trouble finding it in my hangar at first, and the search didn’t come up with anything for “Constellation” but then saw it towards the very top with that generic variable for model.
-
Autopilot seems to have broken - I can’t seem to engage it the way I did before. At first I had trouble with elevator setting, then towards the end when I disengaged VOR-LOC NAV mode, I couldn’t change the heading by turning that knob to the right. I never had these issues with 1.7. Something has changed.
I hope these are addressed soon.
Thanks for the update. Is this the officially sanctioned 1.8 that you tried? I saw in their discord last week that simmarket had uploaded the new version too soon and it wasn’t ready.
Was it “AIRCRAFT.UI_MANUFACTURER” by any chance ?
That is a localisation entry under your local language .locPak, at least for Asobo aircraft, for example in en-US.locPak you might find something like:
“LocalisationPackage”: {
“Language”: “en-US”,
“Strings”: {
“AIRCRAFT.DESCRIPTION”: “At the end of World War II, Beech Aircraft Company …”,
“AIRCRAFT.UI_MANUFACTURER”: “Textron Aviation”,
“AIRCRAFT.UI_MODEL”: “Beechcraft Bonanza G36”,
}
}
Changing these strings changes how they appear in the selection screen.
Yes, that’s the officially released 1.8 SimMarket version…
EdamllamaB, thank you, that is, indeed what it says. I believe that changing strings may change the appearance, but it was never an issue before 1.8 and I have seen this happen with a couple of planes before. The developers always ended up fixing that. I am not a big fan of changing any strings or editing any files - it’s great to those who want a quick fix, but these are things that really ought to be fixed by devs ASAP… not sure how that doesn’t get spotted when they test it before release… or when beta testers (if they have them) test it.
This is a bizarre situation, but RedWing is saying that 1.8 was not ready to release, but SimMarket shipped it early. From their Discord:
Now, the professional thing to do would be to send an email to SimMarket purchasers about the situation and offer a re-download of V1.7 to those users. But as far as I can see thanks to the install being obfuscated by SimMarket’s… um… “work in progress…” app, SimMarket is still offering the unfinished 1.8 to its users.
RedWing should do more here than just post in the threads for the small percentages of their customers who are willing to deal with Discord, given SimMarket apparently released an unfinished update.
This is beyond bizarre. I have an idea for the team… SimMarket doesn’t go around looking for unfinished products to publish prematurely. If it was submitted to SimMarket, they published it. Since their app is such horribly designed piece of junk that gives developers the option of not providing a file to those who purchased it but use their terrible installer (which basically still downloads the zip file, extracts it to your community folder and immediately deletes the file without leaving you a backup with you not having a chance to keep any of those versions), how about NOT opting for that installer of theirs and provide a normal file on it like it used to work before?
Due to this installer “feature”, SimMarket is now at the bottom of my list, even behind the Marketplace to purchase aircraft. Orbx does it best when it comes to downloads through their app. And I trust them enough to not have to worry about a backup. I don’t trust SimMarket.
This would be an instant buy for me, right now, if Orbx was an option. I will not touch Simmarket for “reasons” . If an aircraft is only available on SimMarket I just go without it.
Yep. And OrbX does let you create a backup of your download, too. Sigh.
Any news on whether the RedWing approved ‘1.8’ has been released?
I find Discord a quagmire & tend to avoid it.

Does the Connie use some kind of installer that’s exclusive to the SimMarket app? I own a couple of aircraft on SimMarket and as of today I can still just go to the “My Downloads” section under my account info and manually download the files for my add-ons.
There’s a comment on the Discord that they’re working hard to wrap up V1.9 to replace the botched 1.8 file.
@mervle, some newer releases now only let you install from the app, you can’t keep the installer. The Connie’s one of those.
That’s correct. It uses a Simmarket installer. Can’t just download anymore. A few devs switched to that. Red Wing. BRSim Designs, VirtualCol and I think a couple of others. AzurPoly, I think.
The virtualcol installer should not only delete the back-up, it should delete the product itself as well and chuck it in the bin. Cut-out the middle man .
Just want to take a moment and thank all of you for explaining what the Simmarket app is all about. I really had no idea until reading this thread. It really does not sound user friendly and especially in the case of a botched version release. At least your pain has gone to good use!
