It’s another 60K for the engine, but gliders are fun
Just fired up Cri Cri for comparison. Has anyone flown that thing lately? It doesn’t start in Cold and Dark even with Ctrl-E. Is that thing broken now?
I haven’t been flying it just for the bad taste from ATSimulations never fixing it - like they said they would. Don’t know why they’ve just let it rot. Maybe they’ve just abandoned it.
The sound issues are what really put me off. Hopefully, they will be improved at a later date. So ‘a watch this space’ thing for me I think.
Thank you for buying though and your first impressions.
What was really the surprise for me though was that in real life it only costs $44,000 (plus $5k for building I think). Wow, this really looks like an affordable heap of fun! And up to 200 knots. Really? Shame i’m not a pilot in real life
But the jet engine adds another $60k or so… and $33/hour if you want to save up for the periodic maintenance.
Okay, I missed that. Not quite as cheap as I thought then. Looks like i’ll just have to stick with FS2020 then for a bit
The regular Sonex aircraft are a little more attainable and still look pretty fun, most of them use the AeroVee engine which is a converted aircooled VW powerplant. They even offer a turbo kit so you can say you have turbine power
I think the kitfox is also in that price range…
As I remember, you need click the propeller to start the cri cri, like using your hand
I use the Cri Cri lots, less the past week but still quite a bit recently with no issues. Maybe had one time the plane wouldn’t start as expected but I still, a quick restart of flight and was fine.
The Jet version I have found engines slow to start up and can take a few goes but that was when I first got the plane.
I got the SubSonex JSX-x2 as soon as I saw it as the other day actually stumbled across it on youtube and thought would be cool, knowing may well be ripped off so to see what you had to say, given my enjoyment from the Cri Cri and type of flying I suspect will soon have many hours in the JSX-2
No, I was flying the jet version. You don’t crank those by hand.
Yeah, just flew the Cri Cri for comparison. It’s a dumpster fire in flight comparing to this. Engine management there doesn’t make any sense - as soon as you reduce power from full throttle it loses a TON of airspeed and wants to drop out of the sky.
THIS here is much better, in my opinion. The cockpit doesn’t look as nice. But it makes it up in flight.
Yeah, I just re-started another flight with Cri Cri and was able to get it started from C&D. Weird. Oh well. It still has issues with engine power though.
Yeah the power needs fine tuning but at same time, I genuinely have no idea how the Cri Cri handles in real life and I imagine that it the issue may be similar to how the plane acts in real life, just made a bit too dramatic in game.
I highly doubt it. If you look at RPM, you practically have to redline it to fly. No sane engineering would create something that would drop out of the sky if you move the throttle to 70%. But anyway, we are getting off-topic here with the Cri Cri.
I do think this one is nicer in terms of flight. Much more satisfying somehow.
Good God Jeremy it must be my British humor. When I read this particular post, I nearly spilled my coffee because my first thought was “you’re going to sell your wife for 44,000 to get the aircraft?“ Ah the legacy of being raised in a country with the likes of Benny Hill, Monty python, faulty towers, and much more. (Until they were no longer politically correct!!). Thanks for a good laugh.
That was fixed by the way
The invisible airplane in multiplayer in the Cri-Cri? I’ve been checking their website and their facebook page but not seen anything about it. I see where they posted about fixing the FW, but nothing about the Cri-Cri other than the original post and an update back before Christmas. No emails from them to alert to a fix either. I just checked again and still find no notice of a Cri-Cri update.
Maybe I’m blind. Where did you see this?
I wasn’t thinking THAT but… you are giving me ideas! It’s gonna have to be more than 44K though… Maybe she can cover the cost of the engine?
But yes, I remember Benny Hill VERY well. Used to watch that as a kid growing up in Europe.
Good job we can still find things to laugh at in this crazy world.
