New Simmer worried about getting MSFS on XBox

You can search these forums for how to join the beta program and see the patch early.

Sounds like you’re still on SU11. You got to download XBOX INSIDER APP from the store (it’s free) and then join the Beta. Then It’ll update you to the beta release which fixes most of what you’re seeing.

Also, make sure you download and install the game if you’re on gamepass. Don’t just play it on Xcloud..

Download the beta and restart your console every time you download an update. It for some reason doesn’t pick all the beta updates up at one time and requires console restarts.

I picked up a series X (also at Walmart haha) today and was initially so disappointed with the beta. I’ve been on the sim since launch on a Series S. And after getting the X today I was very disappointed in the distance LOD (2-3 miles out tree/building detail). I thought initially that I had wasted money. After several updates from the beta I decided to try and restart my console and magically got another beta update and boom, now it’s perfect.

I’ve defended the series S on these threads many times and I think if you’re a casual simmer it works amazingly for $250. That said if you are going to really sim the Series X is worth the extra money. I will admit that now, it’s a different ball game.

I originally got the Series S last year as X was not available. I must say that you shouldn’t judge the graphics from what you see in the Sim now. SU11 has messed up the graphics and this is true on the X too for sure. My Series S looked stunning in previous iterations of the sim. I guess the main advantage of the X is having 4K but otherwise the S is perfect and cheap.

The X gets basically Ultra/High settings and the S runs at Medium. So there is a noticeable difference. Even at 1080p. But on 4K, there is no contest.

Get the Xbox Insider Hub from the Store. Join the flight simulator beta. It’s looking really good and got a second update today I believe.

You are not going to regret the SX. Get it now .. just for FS! :+1::sweat_smile:

Nope .. the SX will also give you better texture fidelity, LOD, draw distance, photogammetry… All that good stuff. It’ll also remain more consistent at 30fps with everything that’s going on. Have you played on the SX with SU10? It was buttery smooth hiccup-free 30fps locked and sharp everywhere… Except a few offenders of course… I’m looking at you London ..lol

Okay, this is news to me. You’re supposed to restart your console every time the beta updates?

Like it did today, e.g.

This is for everyone:

Hey guys…any tips to get the servers to stream data faster to my game? I’m at the “ready to fly” screen on Charles De Guale airport, and every time the view changes .. the markers and boundaries on the runway take a few seconds to load properly and look sharp. This is annoying… I’ve left rolling cache off for now because I have to delete and set it again every time the game updates.

How can I get scenery data streamed faster to my console? Any in-game settings?

I’ve got a 50mbps fiber optic connection which gives me the full 50mb in down and up, so that can’t be the issue

I wish I could have both to test and see the difference… I have no doubt granted the price increase and more power that the X has an edge but Series S on SU10 was buttery smooth with steady fps, no stutters and excellent graphics and I haven’t experienced many CTD. Thanks

Smooth is smooth. Resolution is the major difference. And it is really something of you sit up close!

The graphical difference between Series S and Series X is very large, much larger than any other Xbox game. On a big 4K TV Series X looks stunning, almost life like. Series S not so much, more cartoony, with very low res cockpit textures for example.

Series S Is a little beast, a great console for it’s price. I know, because I used it for 10 months. But theres one game that needs Series X and its MSFS.

Thank you all for your information. I will try the beta and see how that is. It’s just the low rez ground textures and popping in and out. Funny I did a flight from Queenstown to Christchurch and didn’t see any pooping in and out though ground rez was still bad. I don’t think I need 4k, just at least medium ground textures.

Either way you will see a major improvement… especially once the beta is over and the Jan update rolls out.

I’m starting to miss SU10 like an old friend from high school. it was the best update on Xbox in months. Great visual fidelity - minus the aliasing - and buttery smooth hiccup-free 30fps all over the world… Unbelievable

If I sign up for the insider beta on my console will it try to update to the beta on my PC version too?

Yes I can confirm all these areas improve. I simmed on the same Samsung 1440p monitor with both the series S and series X yesterday. There are certainly more benefits than just 4k. Is it worth the extra $250…I think so but I sim everyday

So the S has no photogrammetry?

It has photogrammetry and it’s quite good. Install beta files, that’s absolutely necessary to get good graphics on Xbox platform.

And check out Forza Horizon 5 on quality mode. A triumph of optimisation on the Series S.

This is not a rule or anything, I’m just telling you what worked for me.

If you go to the MSFS clubs on Xbox, the Series S screens/videos are amazing. Sometimes I think the look better than Series X!
