Love Flight Simulator on the Series X, hoping that Data Out Telemetry is something that will be implemented soon?
Greetings! I’ve been lurking on these forums for about 6 months now, in anticipation of getting back in Microsoft Flight Simulator after many years away, mostly due to time constraints, but also the difficulty I’ve always had of running PC hardware that could reliably run MSFS without issues. I started with Flight Simulator 2 by SubLogic for the Commodore 64 (& 128), then FS 5 (for MS-DOS 5.0) and finally FS 2000, which I enjoyed but could never really master.
I accidentally stumbled onto the news that Microsoft, after a long time released a new version of Flight Simulator and that it was better than ever. Being retired now, I have time, and also the means to build a PC that could actually run MSFS. I initially came to this forum looking for info on what CPU people were using to run it. I expected a wide range of opinions, but was surprised that, although there were indeed many different opinions, the AMD 5800X3D seemed to be a cut above everything else. I kept researching with little to change that assessment, except that AMD was coming out with a next-gen 7950X3d chip. I felt this was the way to go and decided to wait until it became available in Feb of this year. I finally built my PC about a month ago and after setting it up (and some time off for real-world travel) I finally installed MSFS 2020 (Steam version) last week.
Boy, do I suck as a pilot LOL. But, I plan on taking things slowly and plan to build up my skills as well as I can, while enjoying the exponential visual improvement to the sim after so many years. I do enjoy traveling in real life, but will never be a real-life pilot, so this will have to do. However, MS and Asobo have improved the visual quality so much with this version it really made up my mind to try this again.
Regards,
Greenie
I’m probably of a similar age to yourself and if you have any money left of your PC build fund, I’d go for a VR headset.
If you feel that the visuals have improved since MS2000, then being able to “sit” in the virtual cockpit and look around as you would IRL, will really blow your socks off.
Thank you. Actually not much left after the PC build (my first in about 15 or so years), but VR is a possibility down the road. I want to build up my proficiency for now.
hello,
as you replied to Jummivana, I will ask you a question .
I am new in MSFS but I have been flying for a few years

Hello there from italy!
Not really new to FS…used to be a real pilot some 10 years ago. Due to scarse finaces I had to stop flying. I had my heart broken!
Since i cannot spent thousands of euros in a pc, bought a xbox/x and MSFS premium version. Installed both today and waiting tomorrow to have delivered some thrustmaster yoke and throttle quadrant.
Looking forward to start jumping back to the sky!
All the best to everyone
Michael
I fly off exactly the same set up as you, it is really really good fun.
Definitely! I’m expecting a lot from FS. Yesterday, after installation (which took an entire day ) while waiting for the peripherals I tried a circuit in my old base airport. Even with the xbox pad the experience was stunning. Landscape is breathtaking. I could even find my house exactly were it was!
Still have to tweak the sim, but so far 10 out of 10!
hello,
thank you so much for your post.
I will try it today and will tell you the results .
very frustrating to be lost in the sky !
talk to you later
hello again ,
thank you for your post
the problem is that I am on Flight simulator Steam edition X which has a version of Garmin 1000 that I cannot find on youtube
There is possibility of loading files on it .
could you or the community help , please
Happy to be part of this forum. I’m a PC player and enthusiastic pilot with my last MSFS experience with the 2004 version. Am retiring now and have built the sim of my dreams. I’ll try to help as much as I can while I’m trying to get into a much newer and robust sim. I look forward to the days and nights of soaring the skies. Thanks for the wealth of ideas and support from such a fine product and support from others with the same desires. Thanks again for bringing me aboard.
Hello! Im Wheatley, or you can also call me (perfeered): Fur
I like playing MSFS on PC!
I am trying out flight simulator because I want to be a pilot one day, So why not get a head start with early training
Im mostly instrested into how planes work (learning how) in MSFS!
Hello,
I bought msfs 2020-40th through the MIcrosoft web site, but because I’m using a Valve Index, Steam grabbed it. Kind of funny that with a game built around the freedom of flight, one has to do it on platforms that are obsessed with control.
Anyway, when I was in high school, back when the dinos roamed, I was taking private pilots lessons, but due to circumstances couldn’t finish. Now that I’ve had my first bypass surgery and retired I’m coming back to it through msfs. Call it a second childhood if you want, I wasn’t aware the first one was supposed to end. News to me.
I’m starting to fly out of the Hillsboro, OR airport and I’m flying my lifelong obsession, the P-38.
Hope to see some of you soon.
My childhood never ended, still roaring along. Enjoy the sim, its great fun.
Hi all! I bought an Xbox S a few days ago and have been exploring MSFS 2020 since. I am using the native Xbox controller so far.
I am a semi-retired professional who has never piloted anything that flies, but I fooled around with one of the earliest versions of MSFS back in the day. Fast forward about 20+ years and I am back to it through the 40th anniversary edition. Wow, what a difference! The level of detail (and complication) are both stunning. There is definitely a big probability of a rabbit hole opening up in front of me. MSFS now seems less like a game and more like a way of life!
I am about 20% through flight training and have tried some of the discovery flights and challenges. As you would expect, my performance is definitely uneven, but I feel I am getting a little better at the controls with increasing stick time. I am eager to learn from experienced simmers on this forum.
I live in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, and my local airport is Lehigh Valley International (KABE).
Hello and welcome! We are glad you have joined us and that you are enjoying the sim! Should you ever need help, head on over to #community-support and a forum user can help you there.
Happy flying!
@HamMan2118, thanks for that tip!
Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well.
I’m EvvrEdeavors.
I am playing Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox.
I’ve been playing this game for a couple years now. I love exploring and testing out new planes and airports. I also appreciate being able to go anywhere in the world and getting to see places I may never get to see in real life.
I am interested in furthering my geographical and aircraft knowledge with you all, and getting a better perspective of the world around us. From the skys!
