New Update frustrating - impossible to do long haul flights!

MSFS is extremely frustrating to me after the update. It is impossible to fly long haul anymore. MSFS2020 after about 3-4 hours into the flight, decides to stop utilizing my PC capability. It is a freaking slide show. I check the computer and everything is OK - set for high performance mode, thermals are cool - MSFS stops utilizing the hardware after 3-4 hours into the flight and the game is unplayable. What the heck?? I wasted thousands of dollars on a computer in the middle of a chip shortage SOLELY TO PLAY THIS GAME, and this game no longer functions properly. I AM LIVID.

Do you have photogrammetry turned on? And if so, have you tried the trick of turning it off when the FPS drops and then turning it back on?

I was flying over the middle of the ocean at the time - has nothing to do with PG. It is something with the game. It is not utilizing my computer after 3-4 hours. I normally hear the fan. The fan is silent when this happens - so the sim is not taxing the computer at all. I’m getting 5% GPU utilization. We are talking 0.5 FPS - normally get >30 fps in Ultra full PG with close to 100% GPU utilization. Something is terribly wrong. This only started after the update.

It doesn’t seem to matter if you are in a PG area or not, it still affects FPS.

May want to look at your rolling cache as well, some users settings got reset after last upgrade.

At any rate, hope you get it sorted out.

A few weeks ago I did a near 16 hour flight all in one session in a Cessna 152 making stops along the way for fuel and breaks and this was done on VATSIM. I have a feeling it has to do with stock ATC and live traffic (which I don’t use of course).

i9-10900KF / RTX 3070 / 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 3200

I play at 1440p and maxed out aside from resolution scale at 100.

I used to be able to fly long-haul all the time before the update - 8-10 hours no problem . Also getting CTD a lot more since the early Jan update. Rarely got them before.

Now I’m lucky to get 3 hours before the system slows to a crawl or CTD.

While airliners aren’t really my cup of tea in MSFS I’ve done some pretty long flights in light GA aircraft without issues.

A couple of my recent flights…

Bonanza - 1 hour 31 minutes
Bonanza - 2 hours 21 minutes
TBM - 2 hours 42 minutes

I’ve also done a couple from the southern coast of California into the middle of Arizona. Lastly quite a few KSAN to KLAS flights.

I’m sure I could fly from Fort Worth Meacham to Los Angeles in a CJ4 and not have issues.

Something tells me ATC and live traffic are involved in problems with long flights (again, I use an online alternative for this). Never monitored hardware usage when I am simming. Something I should start doing just for curiosity.

I have no problem using version 511.23, cpu37701k and gpu1070

I haven’t updated the driver. Using one from Sep 2021. But have 11th gen i7 and RTX 3080. No issues until the sim update, which was around the same time of the new Nvidia driver update, which I didn’t update yet.

Everything works great for the first 2-3 hours.

You sure it’s not from December? 497.09 caused havoc. I too am currently using 511.23.

I’m a bit offended that someone flagged my post. I worked very hard and spent $3000 for something that is not functioning. That is very frustrating to me. I was looking for honest and genuine help and advice - not to be flagged and judged. I just wanted help.

Hi folks,

We have a couple open topics discussing FPS issues during long flights which I’ve linked below. It’s best to use the search button to see if the topic isn’t already been discussed, this way we can cut down on multiple topics on the same subject/issue.
