Hotfix for night lighting is supposedly coming sometime in next week.
Lets hope there’s a fix for photogrammetry cities too because its completely broken for me and others.
I realize its not happening to everyone but PG was working fine for me before WU6 and now it doesn’t.
If you want to give us details of location I can go check it out and see if I see the same. Maybe pick a POI or something so we can compare surrounding area. I’m on the series X.
The cities I’ve checked out so far are Basel and Zurich in Switzerland, Vienna Austria, Seatle and New York.
Handcrafted POI’s in all of those areas look fine so guess the Space Neddle in Seatle is a good choice.
The other buildings look like they’re melted. Bridges have black walls beneath them.
Edit: I’ve tried switching off Bing map data and photogrammetry and saving and then switching them back on and saving. Tried switching servers. My ping to the closest server is in the 40ms range.
None of that helped. I’m not currently using rolling cache and had deleted it before WU6.
Not been to seattle yet, gimme 10 mins and I’ll have a look.
I am regularly flying over Zürich in GA, both 2D and VR, have never seen melted buildings there, not before WU6 or now after. I have also checked yesterday Vienna many times, but have not seen those melted buildings.
In one of the first Q&A’s it was said they did use the FSX code for the common file format (BGL) and they reused some code for the classic flight model, to accommodate easy ports of FSX aircraft. The other stuff was rewritten.
I’m basing this on the interview with one of the lead devs after SU5, someone posted it here last month as an example how he was “giddy” about the successful Xbox implementation. I can’t for the life of me find it now, but he was talking about how they cleaned up the code from all the performance hampering old FSX code.
That could explain some of the aviation trouble.. I can’t look into the kitchen.. however this ATIS cloud connection and the Garmins were not included into FSX, you can’t use the old stuff forever. A lot of things FSX needed external addins for were integrated, e.g. the weather. And the (complete?) kernel had to be ported to DX-11.
I never saw any melted buildings before world update 6. I’ve checked my console settings and nothing has changed and I don’t see any difference with my internet connection but there’s obviously something going on with the servers as evidenced by the many topics about PG.
Yep, I am not a fan of Azure.

Then you did not look at some places.. Photogrammetry works only in some places. Copenhagen was always quite accurate ! also the current WU-6 includes very nice photogrammetry for Hamburg. But in Berlin it is different.. Vienna is not good.. And still, in the London area, there is bad photogrammetry. Amsterdam ? same problem. Paris is a little better, but you’ll need high LOD scaling to enjoy it, at low altitudes. US has good places and bad places too. New York has improved for me with the recent updates. It all depends on the source data, MS/Asobo aquire that data and convert it for use in MSFS. Not all data is good data.. you can’t retouch a planet by hand. I think WU-6 is one of the better texture updates sofar. Ground texture definitely improved.
I would assume melted buildings are a streaming issue or bug as opposed to being based on the quality of data.
I don’t have fast broadband either a 40MBPS on the label connection that runs closer to 27MBPS in real life. I am running a 40GIG rolling cache though not sure if it makes any difference tbh.
Thanks for checking it out for me. Your screenshot looks better than what I’m seeing in my game, although it looks like that one building in from of the Space Needle looks like it has some issues.
I see those kind of issues and the melting in all of the buidings.
Wish I could figure out how to post screenshots I have saved on my phone or from the Xbox mobile app.
The thing I don’t get is that everyone goes on about broadband and a super fast requirement, but here I am with a 27MPBS connection and it seems fine. My data consuption (General options ->Data->Current Data Consumption’ on FS2020 today (and I have been around a few places) is only 1.84GB. That’s only about the 1/2 the size of a full length 1080 movie, so it doesn’t seem THAT data intensive an operation. I’d use up far more broadband data/bandwith watching/streaming TV.

In one of the first Q&A’s it was said
Many things were said in each Q&A indeed… and everyone can believe, but we can only speculate unless seing the actual code (or seing enough of its idiosyncrasies to know)
Perhaps melting isn’t a good description for what I’m seeing. After looking closer at your screenshot I do see some buildings with geometry issues.
Like the building thats just off the left wing of your plane has what looks like a huge boulder growing out of it and I see some geometry issues with some of the other buildings.
Its not nearly as pronounced as what I’m seeing in my game though.
Yes, that was it! ![]()
