Now we know why not to buy on marketplace

On top of the current temporary situation of not having access to things that were carried over to 2024, there seems to be a selection of things that were not carried over to 2024 at all.

For instance JustSim EDDV is entirely missing, it’s not even in the list, not even disabled. See: JustSim EDDV purchase in Marketplace not showing in MSFS 2024
If I had bought it via an external shop I could try using it and maybe live with some glitches, but the airport has not been added to my 2024 list at all.

Same for FSDT LFSB for instance, but there I got the info that the developer intentionally disabled it for 2024 until a compatibility fix can be provided to the Marketplace (for free). Meanwhile anyone who bought the airport outside the Marketplace can not only use it but also already got the compatibility update.

It’s just a mess and the worst thing is you don’t know the status as to why some things are missing and when they may or may not be added, you’re just out of luck if things are missing.

Same, MS please let us enable/disable contents.

Every one can choose what they want installed just enable it. Its not like yiur gonna have my airports on your sim. Most all of mine worked

No rage just disscusion

The point is that you yourself can decide when and how you will use your own bought addon, not Asobo etc. You also have the access to edit them as you like. MP is also slower on updates. Will avoid MP when I can.

The good thing about FS24 is the ability to stream only what you need for exchange flight, thereby saving huge amount of disk space. But of course it comes with drawbacks such as being at the mercy of the FS dev’s decisions regarding MP.

I’d be fine if I could download from the marketplace and the product may not work correctly, but I can’t even find out if it will work. Maybe the product would have a few glitches but still be usable. I’d like to know

I too might be done with market place. My Fly Tampa Las Vegas doesn’t even show up in FS2024 big bucks paid. It worked great in FS2020
Does anyone else have the same issue with Fly Tampa Las Vegas not showing up in FS2024 marketplace disabled or not available or not visible at all

I dont have FT vegas scenery showing up either and I’ve seen a few others say the same about FT LV scenery and airport.

I also currently have 10 airports and 4 helicopters (all fs2020 marketplace purchases) that didn’t make it over at all in fs2024. They aren’t even disabled or not available, they just don’t appear at all.

Downside is I can’t copy over from fs2020 folder as the drm/encryption stops them from being recognised in fs2024.

Anything bought 3rd party direct is not handcuffed drm wise to try out in Community folder. Drm/encryption is definitely a restrictive practice, but it’s designed exactly to be that way.

Again. Players on Xbox don’t have a choice.

Not visible at all for me. Fortunately, I realized last week Orbx was having an end of the year sale and I bought it again, outside the Marketplace, for about $15USD. Looks fantastic in FS2024. But I realized after I downloaded and installed that it’s >5.35GB on-disk. I think file size probably has something to do with why it hasn’t been made available to stream.

The only two FlyTampa airports I have showing in FS24 from FS20 are EGNJ (Humberside) & EHAM (Amsterdam). They are enabled and streaming.

I can’t remember if I have any other FlyTampa from FS20 that may not be showing.

Most of my FS20 airports from all developers are showing in FS24. However, there are some that are not showing such as CXYE, EGGP, ESNQ and LPPT amongst others. I assume the developers of those dlc airports have not signed them off for use with FS24 for whatever reason.

Sounds more like the lesson should be “don’t buy a pig in a poke.” Or, to put it in the current context, don’t fall for the hype and pre-order.

Everything you have bought still works in 2020. 2024 is designed to get people to ultimately buy simcoins to avoid having to do the grind in career mode.

3rd party aircraft fill the void that using the default aircraft would leave. 3rd party airports fix the garbage autogenerated airports. 3rd party scenery fixes the lousy autogenerated scenery. In 2024 all those take a back seat to missions and careers, to get people to either grind grind grind or pay. That’s why, in the UI, free flight is downplayed.

Truly gamification to the max. And they’ve got people paying to be alpha testers! (You can’t honestly say this is even beta quality).

To me it looks like the sunk cost fallacy in action. “I paid good money for this, and I’m d4mn well going to enjoy it even if it kills me!” Combined with Stockholm Syndrome.

I used to buy everything on the MP until I read numerous threads stating that buying direct from the developer puts more money in their pockets, which is what I want to hear. As of about a year ago I haven’t bought anything on the MP unless it was there exclusively.

As for the problem of not everything being compatible with 2024, keep in mind that there was an enormous amount of hype associated with 2024 and many of us (myself included) fell for it. I thought that it was going to be the most awesome thing ever - all the bugs from 2020 would be fixed, performance would be enhanced, everything from 2020 would move over smoothly, etc. Clearly I was pitted against MS’s marketing machine and some YT influencers - and I lost.

Lesson learned.

Well, the Black Friday week sale DRZEWIECKI had all but 2 airports on sale at 50% off. I had none before the sale, now I have all but two. So definitely put more money in the dev’s pocket in one shot. Did that for other stuff as well, since I knew the sale comes every year.

Selling me 20 - 50 items through a marketplace sale, even after the 30% commission, is far better than selling me zero items at full price (probably bought more than 100 in the last month thanks to marketplace sales. My nvme went from 900gb data to 1.3tb data surprisingly quickly. And all but a few items are from the stock sim or the marketplace.

Here’s the thing x-plane is also getting ready to add a marketplace. And with the ability to run on linux, those looking to get away from Windows have another option (though most people who have gotten fs to run under linux report a 5% framerate increase as an unexpected bonus).

If you’re worried about funding devs, the people wbo have stopped buying addons from any source in anticipation of 2024, and now no marketplace during the biggest sales time of the year, are what’s really gotta hurt them. A lot of them are decent folk who didn’t deserve this fiasco. I’ll continue to buy addons for 2020 January first 2025 (my wish list still has a lot of items in it). But I’ll probably buy xplane when either amd or intel make a next-gen gpu with 32 gb of vram, so say 2027. If they make them only 2-slot, I’ll buy 2, same as my current 2 x 16 gb setup.

Even when the marketplace opens nobody on console in their right mind would dare purchase anything on it. Given how bad the LOD, the bugs and the miriad of issues on Xbox (mouse freelook anyone?) throwing more money away is stupid.
The default airliners make the sim look like Minecraft, 3rd party airliners will be the same. The 1.5 star reviews on Xbox paint a very poor outlook for marketplace sales on console. Fix the sim fast then we might decide to buy add ons, same goes for “renting”

I’m guessing I’m in the minority. I still make purchases off the Marketplace as I continue to play on both PC and Xbox . The Marketplace is the only place where I can make a single purchase that works on both platforms.

The only thing that has really ever bothered me about the Marketplace is the lack of traceability of purchases. You cannot find any records of when you bought particular addons and how much you paid for them. Its all credits.

Microsoft stated indeed that there would be almost complete backward compatibility, but I have never spoken to any developer who believed that without proof. Microsoft also promised that FS2020 would have near-perfect backward compatibility with FSX. And we know how that ended up. As far as I recall, it has zero compatibility.

However, compatibility is a part they are working on. The last update fixed an issue we had with that, another issue was fixed but did not make it into this build.

My FlyTampa Vegas in 2024 market place missing as described. So lesson learned no more Market Place purchases… but also FlyTampa don’t reply on their forums to give customers any news or information about this issue. Normally always but FT airports but with this issue I will have to consider the poor after sales support. I will not buy this again outside the market place without some comment from FlyTampa as to what’s going on. I may even decide to not buy their stuff moving forward what a shame! Customer deserve some respect they basically pay the developers wages

FlyTampa doesn’t have a 2024 compatible version of Vegas yet. Its not on Orbx, its not on Contrail. So the fact that its not in 2024 either isn’t suprising.

I am sure they are probably working on it. But with the new LOD requirements and objects limi, it is probably more work than some of their other mdules, so it is taking time.
