NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 536.40 Discussion

Yes. I have not had any CTDs using Windows 10, RTX 4080, HAGS ON, DX12, and NVIDIA filters ON.

Still getting CTDs with filters. W11 with 4090, DX12, HAGS and FG on. As soon as I exit the filter menu after applying a filter the sim crashes. Back to 528.49 I go…

I use Frame Generation with HAGS ON, DX12, NVIDIA Filters ON, Win11, RYZEN 9 5950x PBO2, RTX 4090 on 536.40 driver now.
No CTDs yet …

EDIT: Approach to Heathrow caused CTD !!

Regarding the use of filters, I didn’t like having to use GeForce, so I thought I’d try reshade again. The last time I tried it was a mess to install, so I gave up (my attention span isn’t what it used to be when I worked haha). Anyway, the new version that I downloaded (5.8.0) was incredibly simple and consisted of three or four screens where I had to click ā€˜Next’ to complete the install. I found about a dozen INI files to try on flightsim.to and it’s been great.

I respect the fact that it may not be for everyone, but IF you’re looking for the same effect as filters but are having trouble, you might want to give it a shot.

Reshade can also cause crashes if you also use Afterburner. Doesn’t happen to everyone though so good luck

Many thanks, that helped me a lot :slightly_smiling_face:

I fly VR in MSFS, using a Reverb G2 with a 3090 FE. I’m finding the following with the 536.40 driver:

  1. I still get the occasional white or yellow ā€œflashā€, apparently in the right eye. This is much like other recently drivers.
  2. When switching to VR I get ~15 seconds of intense flashing, apparently in both eyes, before it suddenly goes away. It is so bad I have to close my eyes and wait (and I’m very glad I’m not epileptic), so I can only switch to VR when on the ground.
  3. Switching out of VR causes a very long pause (again 15 seconds or more), to the point I start to think the sim has crashed, only for it suddenly to come ā€œaliveā€ again.

Perhaps some of the above is not related to the driver? If so, I’d love to hear of any fixes please. Otherwise I’ll be reverting to the previous driver (which still had 1, but at least I didn’t suffer from 2 or 3).

Hi @spatialpro ,

I use Pimax headsets (8kx and Crystal) for VR with the 536.40 driver. No such artifacts when switching from 2d to VR.
Must be another issue, possibly related to your G2 or something completely different in your setup.

G2 here no issues.

Well it isn’t this driver causing the issues I described. I rolled back and suffer the same. I guess whatever is causing this just happened to start at about the same time as tge driver update.

So I rolled forward to 536.40 again. Same issues… until… I discovered the problem is caused by having Prefer Frame Rate over Latency on (in OpenXR Tools) in combination with having HAGS on. Switching either of these off (or both) solves the issue.

HAGS…not many use it from what I’ve read.

We are receiving reports on Zendesk that 536.40 driver is causing crashes. If you get crashes after updating to 536.40, we recommend going back to 536.23, or if necessary, all the way back to 531.29.

We have updated our Official topic with the latest information:

I’m the most unlucky person with MSFS but never had an issue with the NVIDIA drivers and DX12. Latest driver, just another day and no issues in VR.

Everything else breaks.

A different experience for everyone…same game.

These driver issues are strange. I am running 536.40 with 4090 on DX12. Multiple long haul flights of 15+hrs and not a single issue so far.

Same here…DX12, 4090 zero issues.

Exact same symptoms here (all 3) ! (only difference is I use a 4090).

Oh interesting, will try this, thanks for the tip.

Hello everyone
have terrible micro-pauses-freezes on this hardware ( i9 13900k+rtx4090+64gb DDR5 ), it occurs especially clearly when moving the head on takeoff and in any variant (even static view) when landing from flight level 200

Try Rolling Back & Installing NVIDIA Driver ā€œ535.98ā€ on the Nvidia site !! It Has Worked for me Since it was Recommended Back in Sept. '23. (today is 12 10 23). It Has Made a Real Difference in Performance & No CTD’s either…
My specs - 3080, i9, 32gb Ram., Windows 10 Pro operating system.

I figured I’d give this a try, and at least initially, it has helped quite a bit. I went from being around 60 FPS up to 70 and even hit 80 at one point. Admittedly I wasn’t taxing my system at all, but before on the latest nVidia driver (546.31, the hotfix) I could never get above 60 FPS even parked at KSBA without FSLTL running. I’m going to do some more testing, but it’s promising, which is the best news I’ve had in a while.

Whether it works long-term or not, thanks for the tip.
