I’m testing new driver 581.29 and it’s working fine (as the previous one) on an Asus RTX5090. Very smooth on 4k with DLSS 310.4 preset K and DLAA. Also in VR it is fine in DLSS/Quality (with not working mouse :sob: )

I too have updated to this version and see no impacts - positive or negative. I just assume that there are some security improvements to be had.

(RTX 3070)

I’m pretty sure I’m running two or three degrees hotter with this one. All good otherwise.

Edit - false alarm

On my second flight in SU3 on 581.29 and smooth sailing so far in the PMDG 77W & 77F (5070Ti).

smoooooth rider. SU3 - 2k/TAA - i9 10k - 64gb 3200 ram - rtx3080 capped at 40fps. No frame gen. Fenix A320. Medium textures. Everything else high/ultra (e.g. clouds, precache, buildings).

Overall, the new Nvidia driver works fine, but … I guess no one will be surprised when I say that if MSFS 2020 is running in DX11, it still results in a CTD during loading. Hopefully they’ll finally fix this sometime this decade.

Is this with or without the Nvidia app and audio for 2024?

I’m using 581.29 with the Nvidia App and DX12. Have not had any CTD’s.

I’m just curious. Is there a reason for running it in DX11? Is it a hardware issue? I don’t even know how to switch it out of DX12, if I wanted to…

I’ve found that on certain hardware setups, MSFS 2020 tends to perform better in DX11 than DX12. That’s why I usually test the sim in both modes to compare stability and performance. It’s not a hardware issue.

You can switch between DX11 and DX12 in the in-game settings, or by editing the UserCfg.opt file.

To do this, you need to edit UserCfg.opt file and modify the line
PreferD3D12 0

Change the number 0 to 1

and save the changes.

Well, perhaps you can, but I can’t. I tried adding that line you referred to in the UserCfg file and it looks great until I start the sim. After that, the line gets wiped clean.

Apparently, it is mandatory now to run MSFS2024 ONLY in DX12. So it overwrites/clears any attempts in my system to run it under DX11.

Sorry, unable to replicate your problem…

RTX 3070, Store version, non-VR.

I didn’t write that you should add any line to the UserCfg file. You must have misunderstood me.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, CTD I was referring to concerns MSFS 2020, not MSFS 2024.

I didn’t ask you to replicate it, nor did I ask for help  This CTD issue is already known and marked as bug-logged.

I guess I missed your earlier post. Sorry.

It’s okay, and thanks for looking into it.

NP. BTW, I just checked my FS2020 in DX11. I verified that in the Developer Mode FPS panel. It started up just fine. No issues. It must be a bug that thankfully, I don’t share.

Very stable for me, had rather long flight from Berlin to Kos, Fenix A320, 90-100 FPS at minimum. RTX4090, i9 13900k, 64 MB RAM. MSFS2020.

Since I’ve had this driver, I am experiencing random black screen dropouts for a few seconds at a time. Anyone else? Otherwise it works well. This is on games and applications (and even home screen) other than MSFS 2024.

I haven’t experienced that issue with this driver. I even installed the NVIDIA app for testing, but I didn’t make any major changes there - just turned off Game Optimization and the NVIDIA overlay. I’m running Windows 11 23H2 since three days ago. HDR is on in the display settings. I also temporarily turned off HAGS for testing purposes.

FYI, with HAGS turned off, there are no CTDs when loading MSFS 2020 with DX11, even if the NVIDIA app is installed. However, with HAGS off, NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation will be greyed out in the MSFS 2020 settings and in MSFS 2024 it won’t be available to select at all - only AMD FSR3 will be an option.

That’s probably why some users get CTDs when loading MSFS 2020 with DX11 and others don’t - those who don’t have CTDs most likely have HAGS turned off.

My HAG is turned on. No CTDs. Actually haven’t had one in many, many months - either sim version.

But there are just so, so many variables. The developer’s must feel like they’ve run out of fingers and toes trying to fill the holes in “the dike”! Hopefully AI is helping them somewhat…
