NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 591.86 Discussion

Here are my settings for being stutter free…

Question - you have TAA rendering at 120? What does that do for you? Is it more detail on close ups, like in the cockpit?

It seems to help a bit with anti-aliasing. With it set to 100 I see some jagged edges. With it at 120 I don’t.

You are doing well with these high settings for 1440p. What type of GPU?

An RTX 4090.

I also have a Ryzen 9800X3D (and right next to me on my desk there’s a boxed Ryzen 7 98503D waiting to be installed. More about the tests in the linked thread https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/ryzen-7-9850x3d-6-faster-than-9800x3d-the-world-s-best-gaming-cpu-tests-comparisons-and-rumors/755705 ) I also have an RTX 4090 and 64GB of DDR5-6000 CL26 RAM. I’m running the latest driver and I’m not experiencing this issue at all.

I’m genuinely wondering why, with such a strong CPU and an RTX 4090, you’re using frame generation?
I’m also wondering why you capped the FPS to 40. There’s a high chance the monitor panel itself is designed to operate from 48Hz and up, so I wouldn’t recommend limiting FPS below the panel’s capabilities.

Be sure to use DLSS swapper settings (the cogwheel on the bottom left of the app) to turn on the text that reads out the preset and DLSS version inside the MSFS sim itself. If you do the swap of presets, nvidia driver, dlss, dlss fg, in the wrong order; then you may find you aren’t actually using the preset or dlss version that dlss swapper is showing you are using. Because you made the choices in the wrong order.

I clicked on the Nvidia App icon in the “show hidden icons” section of the windows taskbar and shut down the Nvidia app. And then made all the choices in dlss swapper. That way the text in the game showed me that I had the choices that I wanted 310.5.3 for both dlss and dlssfg, and preset M.

dlss swapper, shipwheel Settings icon, dlss developer options, show onscreen indicator, “enabled for all dlss dlls”.

By the way, msfs2024 runs without any new issues, for instance Nvidia Control Panel still works perfect. And no new issues happened with the two new dll files and the new nvidia graphics driver.

Mainly because I’m using a 120hz 4k tv and I can’t get anywhere near 120fps native.

What would your recommend doing as I’m going on now to do some tweaking as, I just want good visuals and stutter free simming. Main reason I had it at 40fps as it reduced stuttering massively I got one every so often when taxing.

I’ve got tlod 350 tlod 150, would lowering theses say to 250 and maybe 100 make the sim look worse?

Try 200/150.

If you want help, start a new topic - someone will definitely assist you. This thread about NVIDIA drivers doesn’t really fit MSFS settings and tweaks.

It also fills up my 24GB 4090 and then starts to use system RAM up to the point it also fills up RAM. Something is wrong with this driver. I will revert to the previous.

My (admittedly limited) understanding is that Preset M is specifically meant to be used with DLSS Performance mode. Preset K is for Quality mode.

Supposedly, DLSS 310.5 ‘Performance’ + ‘M’ equals or exceeds the visual quality of DLSS 310.4 ‘Quality’ + ‘J’, yet has a little better performance.

I haven’t changed anything there.

Something else that I guess is worth mentioning is that because I only fly on VATSIM and PilotEdge I leave online traffic off. No idea if this plays a roll in any stuttering.

More then likely

What resolution are you playing at? This doesn’t happen playing at 2560x1440p.

3840x1600. I haven´t seen VRAM maxing out on my 4090 for several months with previous drivers so far. This is the first release where I see this behaviour.

Cheers

For what it’s worth.
I finally got my sim rebuilt after losing all of my settings and controller bindings. (another story)
In the process I restored a back-up image of my system that was on 581.94. I have not updated it, yet.

It’s only been a couple of days now, but I have to say that I do feel like for my RTX3070 8GB GPU sim, it seems more solid, with 0 flicker and 99% stutter free, than I recall it on the later driver versions.

I will continue patrolling these forum threads for more info. and update if necessary.

Installed 591.86 using NVIDIA App and then went to DLSS Swapper to install DLSS v310.5.3. After all done I turned on “DLSS Developer Options”, in the swapper, to show the on-screen indicator and set for “Enabled for all DLSS DLLs”…but no indicator shows in the sim. I even checked Registry Editor, and it has the new line “ShowDlssIndicator” with the proper settings.

Any ideas of what I need to do to get the indicator to show?

Thanks
