Oculus software causing the sim to crash with Faulting module name: openxr_loader.dll and VCRUNTIME140.dll

We have seen in the past few weeks a lot of reports with the sim crashing and when investigating the logs, we can see the following errors with the sim:

  • Faulting module name: openxr_loader.dll
  • Faulting module name: VCRUNTIME140.dll

If your sim is crashing and you check the logs and see these errors, this is caused by the Oculus software. Opting out of the beta test channel within the Oculus software should resolve the problem.

  1. Open the Oculus app on your PC.
  2. Select Settings in the left menu, then select the Beta tab.
  3. Select the toggle next to Public Test Channel to enroll.

Reboot your PC, and that should resolve the problem. If it does not, try reinstalling your Oculus software.

If you do not know how to find the crash logs on Windows, you can check the thread below for further information:

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

We have received information from multiple users that the sim keeps crashing even when users leave the Oculus beta. This continues to happen even after reinstalling Oculus software.

If you are one of these users who are having crash issues with the Sim, regardless of the Oculus troubleshooting steps, we can only recommend uninstalling the Oculus software from your PC and wait for it to be updated before you reinstall it.

UPDATE!

Meta released hotfix for this issue last week and this should resolve the CTD issues users are seeing if they update the Oculus application to version 68.0.0.474.361.
