Ya, bit of a shame that this is happening for those addicted to OpenXR Toolkit.
Fortunately, for me anyway, since upgrading my PC to i913900k/rtx4090/32Gb 6400ram/z790mb I haven’t seen the need to use this. I still get better results using an official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 type-c port at 650mbps encoding bitrate (h.264). Also using the Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) to finetune super sampling and asw options.
Using Virtual Desktop with VDXR is probably a good option for now, but tbh I still get as good wireless results with Air Link at 200mbps dynamic bitrate (hevc) and a pretty standard wifi6 setup. Probably a bit smoother than VD/VDXR with both my Q3 and QPro.
Anyway, everyone’s systems and flying styles are different. I mainly fly heli’s low and slow around cities like NYC, Osaka, LA, Busan, and Tokyo and get a very nice/smooth 40fps. For those that want to try alternative Link/Air Link settings you may want to try out my current settings I posted a few months ago. These continue to work very well for me.
Had to uninstall OpenXR Toolkit an hour ago due to this stupid Oculus Update causing MSFS2020 to crash. Was using it 2 hours ago and all was well enjoying the Las Vegas sunshine. Now I’m going to have to try getting my sunglasses to fit into my Headset which isn’t going to work! Guess we’ve now got to learn to live without that brilliant bit of software RIP OpenXR Toolkit. Big thanks to the man that created it @mbucchia
The stable version is bugged out too. I was having many sim crashes with the Oculus software installed, even though I now run via virtual desktop. I don’t remember if it was one of the above faults or something different, but the event viewer reports indicated it was an Oculus service crashing. I uninstalled the Oculus software from my computer and things are much improved in VR stability.
I got the stable, non-beta, v68 update yesterday (PC app and QPro Headset). Everything continues to work fine with msfs using Link and Air Link, without the OpenXR Toolkit installed. Once I get final v68 on my Q3 (hopefully later today) I’ll give VD/VDXR another go and see it this also continues to work ok or not.
Edit 7/30: I received confirmation from Meta that the issue in their runtime will be fixed in v69, and they are taking steps to add specific tests for this scenario.
That should solve the issues with CTD, Oculus and OpenXR Toolkit.
Yes an update has been made and even public beta version unchecked I have back desktop and it is openxr toolkit that causes the crash for the moment I have disabled openxr toolkit. In addition the oculus software still has this message that my configuration is not sufficient they still haven’t solved the problem of recognizing new hardware
I wasted a bunch of hours thinking the issue was with the simulator, graphics card driver, and other programs until I figured out it was this Oculus update.
It’s crazy that META doesn’t give you an option to roll back to the previous version of the software. If anyone figures out how to get the Oculus to work with OpenXR, please let us know.
EDIT: If someone really want to waste their time on this, you can remove the CHECK_XRCMD() wrapping that function call in dispatch.cpp . This effectively ignores the bogus return value from Meta’s runtime and allows everything else to proceed (confirmed myself).
They talked about a temporary fix, but didn’t show us how to do it. No one knows how to access the file, what program is needed to edit it, or anything else to try. It’d be really cool if the person who figured it out could upload the file, dll, or whatever, so we can replace and test it here.
I’ve got the same issue. Uninstalled the opener toolkit butsim keeps crashing. Anything else I need to do to get this working again? If I disable the oculus service the Sim starts fine
you might need to revery back to V68 if you are using the beta version of the oculus app/software. Probably wouldnt hurt to do a doublecheck that you completely deleted openxr toolkit as well.
In my case, where I use the Quest Pro with the link cable, there is no interface other than META LINK to connect. However, OPENXR, which allows various important settings to make the simulator operational, doesn’t work at all.
Instead of leaving us waiting, they should have released or allowed us to revert to the previous installer.
