FLIGHT DETAILS

The Community Fly-In Friday World Tour continues!

In this stage, we’ll be leaving Canada behind as we begin our journey across the Atlantic. Due to the necessity of crossing the ocean, we’ll be flying mostly over water until we arrive in Greenland territory. The sightseeing in this flight won’t be up to the usual standards of Community Fly-In Friday, so our panel will be providing “in-flight entertainment” to viewers of the Twitch stream.

Note: this stage and the next few after it will be longer than usual as we make our way across the Atlantic. Once we arrive in continental Europe in a few weeks, we will once again be able to fly shorter distances and better enjoy the scenery.

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file here:

We will be starting at CYQX. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: We have a lot of ground water to cover in this flight, so we are recommending any aircraft of your choice with a very high cruise speed (420+ knots or as close to it as you can get). Any of the jetliners such as the Airbus A320 or Boeing 787 Dreamliner will work, or you could also choose a business jet like the Citation CJ4 or Longitude, a fast jet like the L-39 Albatross from the Reno Air Races collection, or the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet or another military jet.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server SE Asia
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Few Clouds
Time of Day Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Will this mean more LEGO building?

Awesome. I’m hoping to take part in some of these again this year.

Enjoyed the flight, and did live weather to change it up.
enjoyed the views of Greenland, the folks did an excellent job on it.

Took the Airbus A320, no more live streaming for me.

Hopefully the weather at Gander will be a little better than it is now.

Hopefully there will be other Learjet pilots this week.

Looks like online services are down, so lonely skies for us tonight. And it’s back maybe? That was super quick.

I just restarted and it’s back up for me

I didn’t even need to restart the sim. During startup on the ramp I got a message that online services had been restored, and I saw people spawning in around me.

Since there were no landmarks to visit, I flew this one with Fenix A320 with a Simbrief fpl. Looking forward to flying to Iceland!

Good little cruise this afternoon, and I made some headway on my Lego Mustang finally!

Got to love the grass parking for all the airliners at the end.

My flight this week got more eventful than I hoped for as the first time I reached the cruising altitude I messed up and my F-117 flipped over. :grimacing: I fell from around 33,000 feet all the way to 3000 while spinning around, but at least I managed to regain control and didn’t crash.

After this “little” incident I had time to join the fun and build a Lego set as well, the Technic Race Plane set (42117). The high altitude also provided some nice views, I also liked that this week.

I won’t be able to join the pack in the next few weeks, but I will try to complete the World Tour stages nonetheless in another time.

I missed the flight because I’m still on holiday, but that looks like a typical Gander day.

Seeing how we’re sitting in Greenland it got me wondering something, perhaps one of my fellow fliers can help with an answer.

So Greenland is covered in snow, does using a plane with skis on it make a difference for landing? or is it more of a for looks sort of thing?

Depends on where you will land. Is the runway tarmac and cleared of snow, or is it a snow runway?

I have honestly never seen a runway in MSFS that wasn’t clear of snow. That is why I asked about the skis

The paved ones seem always clean yes, I think only dirt strips in snow covered regions or the custom airfield at Antartica. But you can also land on any field or summit you want.
