Same here, exactly, with the 3, 2, 1, Go. It won’t go away.
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but it is really difficult to turn the jet, I use max joystick input to left or right, the aircraft tilts 90 degrees but the turn radius is almost zero. The low level flights are the most interesting ones but I think a beer is needed to fully enjoy this. Maybe I’ll try that the upcoming weekend, until then I’ll return to my other aircraft.
Nice to finally have study level Darkstar in the sim
The procedure is a bit more elaborate than just flicking the switch. There are two additional switches and a button you need to press for the scram engine to engage. Just turn on “Objectives” and follow the instructions then it’s very easy.
Just finished the cross-USA trip and it was quite amazing. Really cool usage of music and the slow-down and descent was intense. Really quite a trip, well done!
I admit, I wasn’t expecting much from the dlc to begin with. But the one thing I think everyone was expecting was the aircraft carrier in the world map. This is extremely disappointing to me that it exists only for a landing challenge. The Darkstar is fine, I’ll always accept free aircraft, and it’s pretty cool - but I really wanted an aircraft carrier in the world map to freely takeoff and land at, even if only static.
I agree. Not into tom cruise or maverick. Just want to fly.
Well after reading these reviews and looking at what the actual content is in this DLC, I am not going to install it. And here are the reasons why:
- F-18: while the model looks nice, it doesn’t fly very well, the Super Warrior mod in flightsim.to is by far superior. Additionally, there are way superior fighter aircraft available for purchase and for free.
- Aircraft Carriers - Only available in the mission? Sorry I have three add-on Carriers already that are at various locations in the world map, including the free USS Enterprise (near Wallops). I find conducting carrier ops on “HardDecks” Carrier with DC Designs F-14 very satisfying.
- Missions - Maybe from time to time, but I prefer doing my own thing. For low level flying, get low and fast below 3000’ in the Grand Canyon… or try the MachLoop in Wales (near EGOD)
- Darkstar - a plane made for a movie… Based very loosely on a speculative aircraft in the 90’s called the “aurora”… I’ll leave that there.
- Cat & Mouse: I find it strange that a “game” or “sim” which aims to maintain it’s “E” rating (to the point of deleting posts that use certain words related to planes maneuvering into certain positions), would release this. Meanwhile while I still fly “fast jets” and when I do, I usually conduct low level training, airshows, or play cat & mouse with friends…
Over all this DLC adds nothing to my personal flight simming experience. But to each thier own.
I’m not putting Asobo down by any means. They are working super hard and have a business model to follow as well as certain deliverables. However, I would NOT be surprised if Paramount licensed Microsoft to make this content, they (Paramount) would pay A LOT of money to have it included in the Sim… But that is just my thoughts I have NO knowledge (nor work) for Paramount, Microsoft, or Asobo. At the end of the day, to each their own: to those that download it and enjoy it, go for it. For those who don’t like me, don’t download it and just leave it at that.
I’m hoping in my A320 now, happy trails…
Would you please keep us posted with your findings?
If you pass M3 press the fuel cell buttons (right of the head of the yoke, 4 squares), then open up and press scram enabl
Least the dude can see where he’s going….
It IS mind blowing!
I was able to hit mach 9+ only once but now I’m struggling to hit even 60k feet … It just stalls! What altitude do I have to be at to hit the Scramjet switch? Do I need to be in a really steady and slow climb? Can’t I fire off all 4 engines once at height? It can’t go supersonic in a steep climb. With all that ridiculous thrust, you’d think it can shoot almost straight up like a rocket.
Sorry there are no instructions
Imagine that your passion is everything aviation. Imagine that you get on board one of the greatest ventures of all time: building the greatest, and most realistic Flight Simulator ever. Imagine you and your team put your love and life into this. Imagine that you release the greatest update of the year, for free, to all users. The build up to it, the last minute polishing, the suspense, and then the go live…
You and your team have every reason to be super proud of yourselves!!! You just pulled it off.
Imagine that you head to this forum and read the comments…
Sadly, again, there are some people who just are never satisfied, and need to ventilate their most primary emotions in this thread. It’s mostly the same bunch, every, single, time.
It’s an open forum, I know. But I have a hard time reading through all these raw, insensitive comments. Some people seem to be just so… hard at heart … I can’t say it differently. The whole world seems to revolve solely around them and their issues…
I just want to send my love to the whole team of Community Managers, Forum Moderators, and everybody involved at Microsoft and Asobo. Can’t thank you enough for what you together bring to this world. An endless treasure trove of possibilities.
I hope that you are doing well, after putting so many hours into the launch of Maverick. I hope, too, that you will mute the people who deserve muting, and will enjoy all the other great comments and compliments.
You really deserve a big THANK YOU from me, and the countless happy simmers on this forum, and in the air!
Ahhh … so that’s the trick? Pass Mach 3 in a steady climb …enable fuel cells to the right of the stick and activate Scramjet?
“Scramjet”… Appropriate!
I second what you said, bud. Well deserved
Yep, sounds about right
Need steam effect!
I exprencied things i could never image and dream of from in this DLC. So thank you Asobo for this piece of art!. The DarkStar Mission brought Tears to my eyes… another level of awesomeness!
There is definitely a bug with the darkstar where engine 3 and 4 are not turned on at autostart or when you start on the runway. Hope this gets fixed
Nope, as others have pointed out, they get activated only after mach 3 and you need to activate fuel cells first a s then toggle the Scramjet switch.
