[Official Discussion] Top Gun: Maverick DLC

I’m playing the Darkstar challenge, but Apex isn’t there for guidance, and there are no objectives? After watching a video I was able to fly the whole mission and land at the designated airport, shut down the air breathing engines. But the challenge didn’t end by itself. I had to quite out, and I got no score… What am I missing?

How did you restart the scram? No chance for me, got the beeping sound and I’m not able to get it work again.

I was agreeing with you in my first reply. “You can please some of the people some of the time, but not everyone all of the time.”

Can we access to the aircraft carrier in the world map ???
If yes, where or what to type to find it???

A workaround isnt a solution  just as reminder

I restart normal engines, and activate AB , scrams then restarted automatically.

(that two switches with covers - eng reset)

Hmmm….ok….I tried it many times….scram didn’t come alive…

Hmmm, sort of. As previously mentioned someone published a mod already which seems to simply spawn the new carrier model coming with the Top Gun DLC:

https://flightsim.to/file/33841/top-gun-carrier

However:

  • You cannot land on it. Well, you can try, but according to some comment you will „fall through the deck“
  • It doesn‘t move (it remains at its spawn point)
  • And since you cannot land on it I presume everything else like launch bars etc. is also non-functional

There was hope that we would get some additional „carrier functionality“ alongside with this DLC. Seems like we have to wait for it a bit longer…

I was just pointing out that 1. It’s hard to complain (which it is) and 2. They made very clear that the delay was based solely on the movie. With zero intention on changing anything. And to be honest due to licencing they might have ALREADY been locked into what they were going to do with the assets. You can’t assume that they even have the ability to alter what they are going to put out at their whim. There are contracts in these things that can limit what they do to what they SAID they are going to do. Ppl have to be realisic about the business side if they are going to say things like… Oh why didn’t they just do this.

i found this video and i have succeeded.

once you reach betweem mach 3 - 4, just turn on the full cell battery and activate the scram then … wait. your reactor will turn off automatically and the scram will activate itself.

if you don’t want to check the big dial above your head, you can see your Mach speed on the top left of the center screen, the “M .96” for (Mach 0.96)

Does the prototype airplane not have brakes? Even with parking brake on, the aircraft starts rolling down the runway after I throttle up

Lol…it’s a made up plane from the movie, designed and created for the movie. To look cool. That’s it.

It’s as real as Santa’s sleigh. Both are based loosely on other forms of transportation.

The breaks are simply not strong enough to contend with anything above like 10% throttle. These are obviously very powerful engines.

True but it was designed for the movie by Lockheed Martin and I don’t know if you watched the dev Q+A yesterday but they made the plane with the input of a few people at Skunk Works. So yeah fantasy but with a nod to reality I think.

MSFS 2020 becomes a real X-Box game with Top Gun Maverick added.
Hopefully there is still time and money left to provide the PC simmers with a well-functioning multi-monitor option. This has been eagerly awaited for 2 years.

The engines are a real, legitimate concept. Scramjets are sort of an upgraded version of the Ramjet turbojets on the SR-71 (feel free to correct if I’m wrong, anyone). If I remember correctly, it’s forcing supersonic air through a very powerful compressor. The theory (I think) is that the faster the air moves, the faster it’s forced out the exhaust after it’s mixed with the fuel and ignited.

The downside to scramjets is that the air has to be moving very fast (mach 3+) for it to work.

There have been several folks reporting that this solution does nothing for them and they still see the numbers staying on the screen. So like everything else with MSFS, results vary from user to user.

So on xbox when i try to land the datkstar it freezes up and crashes ti desktop. Anyone else have this issue???

The SR-72 will go MACH 6, maximum MACH 7 according wiki and fly at 80.000 ft. Think they gave it a bit unrealistic performance. Also 275.000 ft seems to be a hard deck in MSFS! Its not like the altimeter just doesn’t go any further, you literally can’t go any further.

I think being able to go up there is already nonsense, the atmosphere is too thin for an aircraft to function, you will need reaction control thrusters to steer and bring your own oxygen to burn. If there is this hard altitude of 275.000 ft, at least make sure the aircraft isn’t able to reach this altitude .

Think this DLC is a bit overhyped, it’s free so can’t really say much about it. But it doesn’t add much, we already had the F-18 of course, you can only land on the carrier during this challenge (at least I haven’t figured out how else), no free flight, taxiing around, catapult off the deck and all the cool stuff we already have from 3rd party devs. The SR-72, although not existing (yet) would be cool have they given it realistic performance.

Wont work. Keeps looping back to Marketplace.
