So is it good to go now? I’d like to purchase it and explore that part of the world. ![]()
No, not good to go. We are still trying to fix it.
A bit of a heads up on this one, we have redone nearly all of the water and forests from scratch. The loading time is down to 10-15 minutes from 45-50. While vastly improved it is still not acceptable, so we will continue and see where it gets us.
Thanks for the update. That is a weird one!! Any clue what on earth is causing it?
Probably a stupid question as if you knew you would be able to sort it out!?
I’ll speculate a little here, but ‘Okavango Delta’ was possibly one of the most valued scenery mods in the game. Certainly was my favourite, and I’ll speculate a fair few others.
Hope you can sort it out ….. even charge for it in 2024 because I’ll be straight back in it.
Asobo changed the progrqmming for terrafroming and scenery polygons last year. It seems that works with smaller sceneries in most cases, but from a certain degree of complexity and onwards it just chokes. We reported it (and some other devs) and it has been logged by Asobo, but no fix is present yet.
We started redoing the thing in March hoping to have the FS2020 version fixed befote FS2024 releases and we are close but not there yet.
You might be better off holding fire until you get your hands on the new SDK, you may not need as much in the way of terraforming and scenery modification in the new sim.
I don’t want to try and teach you how to suck eggs (of course you all have FAR more experience than me here!) but sometimes it can help to have some idiots advice to perhaps trigger a different approach to a solution…
Would it not work to split the scenery into smaller parts so it’s not all one big package? E.G. a north, south, east and west “sections” but touching each other. Then recombine them in the product (one installer, but 4 folders inside).
Would love to see this fixed in 2020 as i’m not moving to 2024 i hope you dont wait for that
It was split into 14 or so areas for animals and at least one area per airport, so it was already decimated in v1.0. Even loading one of the pre-remake areas took forever. It is clearly a bug introduced by the new terrain system.
@PCMRTumnus that is not an option as SDK fixes for 2024 will not work for 2020 and we will try our best not to leave customers in 2020 stranded with a broken scenery. If Asobo fix their end it will be great, we have to do ours.
Any news on the Maun scenery? In February it was almost done and now we are soon in November
This has been pretty much frozen. Too much on our plate.
IMO 5 minutes added to the sim startup time is not OK at all for any scenery, even a large one. Even GSX takes less than that, and at 2.5 minutes it was still so slow that I disabled all of the ground vehicle and jetway overrides which saves most of that time. FSLTL doesn’t take that long with thousands of aircraft and livery combinations.
I’m not blaming SWS here at all, it’s Asobo that broke the performance of the algorithm, it worked perfectly before, and SWS have clearly put a lot of effort in and done the best they can. 5 minutes is better than nothing but still not OK.
I’m hoping that the new cloud based on demand loading in MSFS 2024 fixes the Okavango Delta. I own it on marketplace so should find out soon enough.
It is great that they trying to get this working again in the sim. It is a great addon.
But, yes, 5 minutes is too long for me too unfortunately.
100% agree! If that was acceptable I’d be sitting at the 73 day mark for loading.
Kidding, but only kind of.
Anyone tried Okavango recently on 2020?
We have breaking news about the Okavango Delta straight from SWS headquarters!!!
You may remember that a when SU13 released, due to changes to the scenery engine of FS20 some large sceneries broke, had extremely long loading times or both, like our own Okavango Delta. The extent of the issue forced us to delist Okavango from sale and the problem still persists today.
We did, however, keep working behind the scenes and practically rebuilt the entire scenery. So, today, we are happy to say that Okavango is coming back! Loading times have been reduced back to normal numbers, while we are going airport-by-airport and checking out if everything shows up properly.
Not everything is perfect yet, but we are gradually tracking down issues and want to have the update out in December!
And remember: always check for animals before landing!
Good news. Any upgrade path to a MSFS2024 version planned?
