On screen indication of sim rate

That does still not resolve the issue that it is impossible to to assign a keyboard shortcut to RESET the frame to 1X (normal).Asobo hat implemented a way to assign a keyboard shortcut to
ACCELERATE the sim rate, 2X, 4X etc, and also one to SLOW DOWN the sim rate, 1/2X, 1/4X etc, but I could not find a way to assign a keyboard shortcut to RESET the frame to 1X (normal).
On other sims it is possible TODAY, and it was possible on FSX, a software of over 15 years ago.
Utterly disappointing.

And why if a modification can be made by someone who does not work for Microsoft,?, cant that be incorporated into the game by the people who do? Then every ■■■■■■ update you get you won’t have to make sure that Modification still works! And you already know it wont! Why? Because updates are made with killing all modifications in mind! Which they have a success rate on that of about 99.99%

Why has nothing been done in response to this request? SimRateBandit was a great workaround, but sim updates have rendered it useless. I read all the other requests that seemed somewhat unreasonable that got responses, but this simple one is ignored?

this really needs to be added

Even more disappointing and shameful, due to the fact that even after one and a half year
Asobo has not implemented this, PMDG had to do it themselves, implementing it in
the iPad found on their DC-6…
And I remind again: This was present in FSX, 16 years ago, and even before…

In FSX, red letters showing 2x, 4x, 8x, and higher. Using the options simulation rate menu. There most likely is key stroke for it, just never learned it. Absolutely horrible, this has not been fixed yet. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!.

Yes… And in any flight simulator worth of its name, there is a keystroke or command
to RESET the frame to 1X (normal). In MSFS, for an utterly incomprehensible reason,
Asobo hat implemented a way to assign a keyboard shortcut to
ACCELERATE the sim rate, 2X, 4X etc, and also one to SLOW DOWN the sim rate, 1/2X, 1/4X etc, but I could not find a way to assign a keyboard shortcut to RESET the frame to 1X (normal).
So depressing, PMDG had to do it themselves, implementing it in the iPad found on their DC-6…

Mine does not work, yes “R”, nope sim rate never goes up. R+ nope does not work either. R = Num pad +, nope does not work.

Guess there is a config file someplace and it’s corrupted, because this has not worked since sim release for me. And I am getting #$%^&* tired of learning how to program and fix bugs this thing has got, instead of flying the planes.

I completely understand and share your frustration.
Since the very beginning, Asobo has added more and more landscapes. POI’s, and fauna, (the landscape overdose, as I like to call it), and more and more arcade ridiculous planes and useless features, instead of addressing the most basic bugs and add really useful and logical features, again, and I can’t stress it enough, present in FSX, 16 years ago, and in EVERY other simulator today.

HudBar is very useful and you can press a button to reset back to 1X.

All - Please note, some of this information is available through setting in sim, in all “screen views” you can get most of this data. I had it on for long while since cannot read individual screen readouts very well. The only one not displayed that important is sim rate. You also do not get distance to next waypoint. The information setting is for “all the planes” regardless of engine count and works in freeware ones as well. 18 months and counting till we have this feature.

The setting is: General options, user experience, instrument cockpit cam set it to - minimal.

Fine, fine, but this is something that should do Asobo, and not some good soul…

You do not mention the Ctrl key which is normally required for sim rate adjustment without assigning these functions to some other action or mod.

This is my summary of FS2020 sim rate functions and is covered above by other posters on this topic:

Function Key Note
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enable R Enable sim rate adjustment. Wishlist: Strike "R" again to disable adjustment and reset to 1x
Increase Rate Ctrl + While holding the Ctrl key, strike the numeric keypad + key
Decrease Rate Ctrl - While holding the Ctrl key, strike the numeric keypad - key
Reset to 1x No native function exists in FS2020 to reset sim rate to 1x.

Workarounds for having no reset function:

  1. Make a mental note of how many increase rate adjustments were made so that an equal number of decrease rate adjustments will return the sim to the 1x rate.
  2. Adjust the rate until it takes 1 second for the seconds to change in the Garmin PFD clock.
  3. Adjust the rate until it takes 1 second between strobe lights to flash.
  4. Decrease rate repeatedly to make sure that the rate is the slowest implemented, then Increase rate twice to return to the 1x rate.
  5. Install one of the 3rd party mods that show the sim rate on the screen.

I’ll add my comment to this, absolutely bogus that we still don’t have a stock display of the sim rate. When I’m not on vatsim, I often do long-haul airliner stuff that I am constantly fast-forwarding. In a dev Q/A they acknowledged this a long time ago. A simple 10 point font in the corner of my screen showing “sim rate 2x” when not 1.0 is all we need. I don’t even need a reset, just the knowledge of what I am currently on. This is one of those things a developer should have the ability to add in less time than it takes to read this thread…

VERY well put, completely agree!
Besides the fact that 16 years ago in FSX, it was already possible…

100%. How is this not done yet!

One of the many unfortunate Asobo mysteries…

Users are not comfortable with this problem. SU8 is out and no fix yet.

Because this thread didn’t get enough votes. 296 votes, at the time I am posting this, is not enough to get Asobo’s attention. Maybe get it to over 700 votes and Asobo will start to notice this wishlist item.

I increase sim rate on nearly flight (even short GA) so this is probably one of my top 5 feature requests for sure. That said, my favorite workaround (I know there are others) for the moment is to find a clock in the cockpit. My favorites are vintage analog clocks where I can clearly see the “seconds” hand and can know instantly my sim rate based on how fast that is moving. A320 has a nice large digital clock. G1000 clock is small and I have to zoom in. Some planes (e.g. Ju 52) seem to have no clock at all and are frustrating for me to fly when changing sim rate.
