OpenXR Toolkit (upscaling, world scale, hand tracking...) - Release thread

No, it’s not that. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough, but it’s a purely anatomical thing. Some people will see world as too large, others as too small, and MSFS is built for average IPD. With my IPD close to average I don’t see any problem with world scale, but many people do. That’s why you see many posts of “cockpits look too tiny!” or “too huge” and others don’t undertand what they mean because it looks totally normal to them. Word scale adjustments can help people individually to fit VR representation to their anatomy, just as IPD adjustments on HMDs does. They have to work together though, but MSFS lacks such settings. Some other sims, such as DCS, have that adjustment built-in.

what mods negate the artifacts?

No, unfortunately, with the new release, MR does not work for me

This takes care of the most annoying prop warping artifact for most planes. There can be some wing edge artifacts, but they are much less common and less annoying. Prop is just awful, and this mod eliminates it completely. Besides, in real life in flight you also see prop as an almost transparent solid disc, not as pulsing blurred blades as you see on film. So it’s also more realistic.

I have a PIMAX 8k x, and a 3080ti. I’m not hip to most of the lingo as a total VR noon. I am pretty happy with how it runs on my system but of course better is always good. Is this tool applicable to a Pimax headset? Is there a link or something that shows what to do for the ultimate layman noob?

@mbucchia Thanks so much for this tool!!! :+1:  Incredible, used it for the last three hours → never had such a deep immersion with VR before  . It’s perfectly sharp and smooth with my HP Reverb G2 and 1080TI.

Thx Roman! That prop thing is quite annoying. I’ll give it a try. Still get some minor shimmers and judders in G2 (especially in dense areas), but much better than previous.

I see a couple of people seem to have the Upscaling factor at 100%. Surely this is the same as disabling Upscaling which in turn means no sharpening effect either?

I have settled on 85% FSR scaling, 50% sharpening. In game RS is 100% and SteamVR SS is 170% (Vive Pro). I have SteamVR Motion smoothing on at fixed Frame rate of 30fps.

Am able to fly around New York in TBM 930, with Scattered clouds and evening sun. Looks glorious and stays at 30fps. Its hard doing comparisons because even without changing any settings you can get completely different “stutter” experience from run to run. Ended up restarting SteamVR and MSFS between test runs..

This is with 11900K/3080/32gig combo

Bit off topic specific Roman…
Any plans to update Toronto and the GTA?
(afterall, it’s North America’s 3rd largest city/market! :folded_hands:

I just started laughing and swearing (in that silly, positive way) when I took to the skies using this magic tool of yours :). Really good work guys!

100% upscaling still does some sharpening.

mbucchia, you’re the GOAT !!!

Very nice here, haven’t gotten much time with it yet.

Best NIS: scale 70%, sharp 52% or 40%(in hi density area like Honolulu), and gotten 40-43 FPS

Best FSR: scale 80%, sharp 67% and gotten 30-33fps.

[Ryzen 9 3700x, 32G RAM, RTX 3070]

After awhile, many changes, I couldn’t replicate earlier settings, so I had to reboot. It seems RAM (GPU’s ?) got clogged up.

IT is a pleasure to fly. You deserve a cut of MSFS sales !!!

Thank you to all involved. We owe you a debt of gratitude. Working very nicely so far. Great addition of FSR. Any possibility to also add DLDSR for VR into the mix for the roadmap?

This was brought up before - but NVIDIA has not released an SDK (software tool) for it, so it’s simply not possible without it

Just a stupid question:

As the results of this tool are phenomenal, and from what I understood you work in the Runtime OpenXR team, it’s not possible in the future to integrate this code and it’s functions directly in the Runtime OpenXR app so the benefits are not limited only to FS2020 but also to all the apps who use OpenXR?

Great job guys! Very positive results here!

Hi, I dont see any different when in FSR I changed sharpening ?? 0-100 no differences
when in NIS - yes sharpening is changed drasticaly
what is the reason?

For AMD users: A new build Beta 2 Hotfix 1 (0.9.5) is available for download and should resolve the issue. Please let me know otherwise.

PS: I am resting for the rest of the day
See y’all later.

I’m working on CYOO Oshawa Executive Airport now. Should release within a couple of months. Quebec city and possibly Victoria coming up adter that. I’m not planning to update free Toronto and GTA add-ons as they already have significant FPS cost. Adding more is going to be too much.

This is awesome - best VR experience I’ve had in the sim yet using this tool - able to push the LODs and get great clarityn in the cockpit. Also made the DC-6 feel like the size of a DC-6 with the world sclae option, which is also awesome. What a fantastic job guys - thank you!
