And they taxi out forward, turn right on the spot until at 90 degrees to the taxiway, and proceed from there. Sadly, in the sim you can’t have different inward and outward taxi paths to/from a parking spot.
Sadly, also a sim problem. Because the AI is currently aiming to touch down at the mid-point of the runway, and also doing a 3.3 degree glideslope at an airport that requires a 5.5 degree approach, by the time it gets low enough it’s too far along the runway and goes around. Presumably forever.
That, at least, should be fixed to future updates to AI behaviour soon-ish, because it’s an acknowledged bug.
It’s doubly sad because FSX/P3D absolutely can do all of this. Virtual planespotting at EGLC was one of my favourite non-flying things to do.
Wow, now I know, thank you. Ive not flown in or out of eglc other than in th sim. I must give that parking a try myself. Maybe we can plead for a special gsx implementation of the marshall for eglc.
The latest fsltl injector does have a work around for the midway down the runway su12 bug, but yes that 5.5deg g/s is probably what is killing the approaches.
I was thinking that had landings worked I’d have sat there watching for a long while. It is a spectacular backdrop esp. at sunset.
If you’re going to do it, pick an appropriate aircraft. In RL only two-engined aircraft can land there, and they must be certified for the steep approach (if an airliner) or on the ‘yes’ list for smaller private jets, which still must do the steep approach. I mean, you can land a small GA plane there, but in RL the tower would laugh at you
In the Embraer E170/190 (the most common aircraft at EGLC these days), you need to have an aircraft fitted with special additional speedbrake capabilities or else you’ll exceed the approach speed just due to the glideslope.
Until JustFlight ships the AvroJet version of the BAE146 (the previous ‘most seen plane at EGLC’), I’m making do with the HondaJet and the CJ4, both of which can do it reasonably well.
I saw an ATR or two as AI at eglc. I think it was Luxair and Loganair too. I assume that atrs do fly in there?
Yes I have the justflight bae146 and it is fun to fly in there with. Haven’t spent enough time in the CJ4 with the new avionics, previously only having used it with the wt mod which I sorely miss (mainly simbrief import).
I don’t have the E175 so can’t use that.
Irl, it’s mostly E190, E90 (British, KLM) and DH4 (Luxair) that fly in there according to flightradar. There’s also a route from Isle of Men that uses At72s.
Ah yes, the ‘Concorde-replacement’ BA002 to NY via Shannon in Ireland (BA001 being the route back from NY to LON, IIRC). Not your average scheduled flight. The A318 was fitted out business-class only, though the service was probably closer to first class in BA terms. Passengers used the Jet Centre (the private jet terminal) at EGLC rather than mix with the hoi-polloi in the regular terminal, but walked out to the aircraft because nowhere at EGLC is more than a five-minute walk away from anywhere else.
The outbound stop in Shannon was necessary for fuel reasons - the A318 couldn’t then carry enough to reliably get across the Atlantic westbound from London - but also allowed passengers to go through the US pre-clearance facility at Shannon and complete US immigration checks there. The aircraft arrived at the domestic terminal at JFK and you just walked off.
Once Concorde was gone, this was the jet-set’s option for a fast and hassle-free LON-NY route. A real shame it’s gone now. BA has stopped flying the A318. But one day, when the sim is properly capable of it, I’ll do that flight.
I had the v1 OrbX version (though from Marketplace), but I opted for the UK2000 version. I think they improved their products and I feel it’s done with more love and care, ranging from the terminal, runway lights, night lighting and details such as the train. I think it adds a good immersion, so really liking it and happy with my choice.
it seems to be a case of neither offering everything but each offering something the other doesn’t. I’m not really in the market for a London City scenery (unless one were to find its way into a sale) but if I were, it would be a very difficult choice for me to make, based on what I’ve seen. The only advantage the Orbx seems to have is more detail around the dock area (such as the Tate & Lyle factory), which I’d say offers as much immersion as a generally better representation of the actual airport and its airside. The last moments of the approach I always enjoy in scenery that models the surrounding area too.
I use AIFlow and it has an optional workaround to force landings at a user specified runway. I don’t normally like using the option because it is not particularly convenient to set up and the forced landings are jerky because AIFlow has to fight against MSFS to get the aircraft on the ground, but I might give it a try at EGLC just to see if it works there.
Another reason to avoid MSFS Marketplace: I am staying with ORBX EGLC V1 because unfortunately I bought it on the Marketplace in the early days of MSFS before I knew better, and therefore the ORBX discount price is not available, also there is insufficient improvement in V2 to warrant a re-purchase at the full price.
I have a suspicion that MSFS Marketplace breaks EU consumer protection and trading laws, but that’s another matter.
Yes me too. V2 is not worth it other than for the taxiway/parking layout changes. Scenery wise it feels the same. I paid full price for V2 and instantly regretted it. Ended up buying UK2000 version because it’s feels more like 2023 scenery wise.
My gripe with V2 was the “V2” label. I think it should really be V1.2 or whatever. ‘V2’ in airports these days indicates major upgrade. Where as the only major upgrade I cans see here is runway layout. UK2000 had animated DLR train which is cool and some interiors and people. Orbx V2 doesn’t.
Interesting re Flow, I stopped using it a while back as FSLTL was fine on it’s own these days, but may try it with your suggestion at EGLC.
Yes itemised receipts would be a good start for store purchases. Proof of purchase being the key not proof of purchase of just flightsim credits!
I am an AIG fan so I don’t know how that would play out with FSLTL, and yeah ORBX EGLC V2 is still a first generation MSFS addon. Some of the recent stuff coming out of other developers is fabulous and blows ORBX out of the water. Unfortunately there are usually few, if any, choices for replacement of default airports, so something is generally better than nothing, be it freeware or payware.
