ORBX EGLC London city airport upgrade/downgrade

Orbx is NOT what they use to be and it’s very sad to see them loose the Orbx touch. MSFS is so good that a lot of Orbx 's airports could be on Flightsim.to for free.

Unfortunately we’re talking about UK2000 who were good once upon a time but haven’t quite hit the heights in MSFS (seriously, what is with those God awful yellow wig-wams they insist on putting at every holding point on every airport. They don’t even flash alternately and look like they have been lifted straight out of FS2002), and ORBX who seem to publish a lot of other developers work without a great deal of quality control.

I can’t see enough in either of them to warrant an upgrade tbh.

The first UK2000 MSFS efforts were pretty rough, but latter ones have improved big time.

And they’re seemingly the only developer who makes sensibly sized mods.

Many of them are a couple of hundred megabytes, vs 3gb for some piddly farm strip.

Well yeah, if you look at it like that they’ve improved from maybe 3/10 to 6/10. They’re still not really a patch on the really good MSFS developers yet they’re priced as if they are. A lot of UK2000 products feel like they’re stuck in a time-warp to me. Despite the improvement in quality there is still absolutely no excuse whatsoever for those blinkin terrible wig-wams. None.

It’s a fair point regarding the size, but is that really an issue? I guess if you’re a console player but even then I believe you can add extra storage. Personally I’d prefer the better quality that comes with bigger sizes than low quality textures. Personal preference I guess.

For info:
I just tested Orbx EGLC V1 using injected traffic from AIG Traffic Controller and the following entry in the AIFlow ini file:

AIForceLandingRunway=EGLC,09

AI flight Flyer 8764 landed successfully at the 09 touchdown point, turned off at taxiway E, and parked at the gate. Slightly jerky step down approach as expected.

Must give it a try with FSLTL.

For me, yes.

I have 6TB on my laptop and with mounds of projects, 3d models, games that I never visit and videos everywhere I still have to spend time trimming space.

If every location I was interested in was the 5-10 gb that some are I wouldn’t get around very much.

It’s been stated several times in this thread that there’s no upgrade price for V2 for marketplace buyers, but Orbx have stated that the upgrade price will be available on marketplace. Since V2 isn’t on marketplace yet there’s nothing to conflict with this.

I have Orbx EGLC V1 on xbox. I like it because it adds a lot of bespoke buildings around the airport on all sides, and really makes a difference to the approach. It works really well with the Orbx London City pack. It sounds like the UK2000 doesn’t do this and is just the airport.

I was planning to upgrade to V2 when it gets to xbox but the feedback here will probably stop me. The new layout should be a free upgrade as it was already there before they even released this product, so they can’t claim it wasn’t known at the time. They made a big fuss over how they’ve reworked and upgraded the whole airport, and if this is not the case then it surely is not worth an upgrade price. I’m happy enough to live without the new taxiway and control tower with nobody in it if that’s all we get. Other devs are giving much better updates for free.

The other problem is this scenery is a total CTD-fest on xbox, so my advice would be to steer well clear of the Orbx version on that platform.

The UK2000 airport doesn’t include as much of the surrounding scenery as it did on P3D. I think their rationale is that the sim generally does a better job of providing buildings via PG or autogen, so less need to focus on stuff outside the immediate airport. For example, the Newham Council HQ building on the other side of the dock is not covered by the UK2000 scenery, but it doesn’t seem to be in the current London PG area either, so you get a rather ugly non-descript autogen building. The ORBX version (both v1 and v2) has some scenery beyond the airport boundary, so you get that building modelled.

Horses for courses. I have both, but this is one of the key airports in the world for me, so it’s worth it to me to be able to directly compare and pick the one I prefer, which right now is ORBX. They both have the same limitations with regard to AI and parking, both of which are underlying sim issues, so it’s just down to look and feel primarily. Neither gets it 100% right. While I like the animated train in the UK2000 version, it’s not like the train runs all the way up and down the full DLR network - it goes so far and then disappears. Full train support in the sim generally would be cool, but without it I’m not that fussed about having visible DLR trains at the airport.

I’m not sure it is yet, but hopefully we’ll get an update on that later today.

What is weird is that if you look at it in content manager, it is now in a bundle and called “EGLC London City Airport Upgrade” and V1 is the only airport there currently, but the picture on the bundle photo is that of the upgraded airport. The bundle is not available in the marketplace though (assuming because V2 hasn’t been released).

My assumption is that if you paid for V1, how you can get the upgrade price as it will be bundled together and you just uninstall V1.

Yes Orbx said from the outset they would use marketplace bundle to allow the upgrade price. The bundle has leaked to us users prematurely.

Two months since release and nothing.

I ended up uninstalling this and getting the UK2000(?) release instead, which has the new airport layout, and those waggling lights at the hold short lines.

It’s ORBX, they do have a bad track record of fixing issues in their sceneries.

I just wish they could correct the runway lights and do something about that hideous parallax interior at the gates. I don’t mind the rest of the interiors and I don’t need a super high detail interior model at the gates. But flat seats bending upwards right next to the aircraft cockpit window, that’s ridiculous and simply lazy.

Another month, still nothing.

On discord they explained they’ve hit a limitation with the marketplace. They were hoping to use the bundle facility to provide an upgrade discount but when they tested it was found not to work. Sounds like even Asobo didn’t expect that. So at the moment we can’t get an upgrade on marketplace unless Asobo fix some software or everyone buys again at full price. I don’t know what Orbx are going to do about this, seems they haven’t worked it out themselves.

Thanks for the info

Marketplace is all Microsoft, not Asobo.

I suspect this just fixed bug in the latest SU13 beta might be the one that was preventing the EGLC V2 bundle release on marketplace, so this might become available soon.
