Other than flightsim.to, what are some good add-on sites?

Hi there, other than flightsim.to, what are some good addon sites? Any help is appreciated. TIA.

I can’t think of any that’s in a similar level as flightsim.to to be honest. there’s msfsaddons.org. But I dunno… flightsim.to is just nautical miles away from the other addon sites in terms of quality, and content.

Nexusmods has also mods available

Ohh yeah, that too.. I forgot nexusmods also have MSFS mods in it. I use it for my other games addons, and I have downloaded one or two mods for MSFS from there. But, still it’s not as comprehensive and well managed as flightsim.to.

Orbx and Just Flight are both predominantly payware sites but both also offer a little bit of good freeware as well.

There is also github and Avsim.

Avoid Simmarket.

There is a list of add on sites here that may be of interest.

why is that?

Maybe I should say buyer beware. They do not see it as there responsibility to monitor quality ( or allegedly pirated content). The store itself is fine and not an issue but the products can vary from very very good through to somewhat suspect.

I don’t think any store should be responsible to monitor quality, in my opinion. Everyone should be responsible with making an informed decision whether to get a certain product or not. You can’t blame the landlord for a baker selling you a moldy bread.

So why advise people to avoid a site which sells, at one end, ā€˜very very good’ products?

buyer beware is more accurate - they don’t curate what they sell… so you can find ā€œdevelopersā€ stealing free sketchup models and charging for it as scenery…

but there’s nothing wrong with their store, and plenty of legit good stuff.

Yes, I should have said be wary of what you buy as the content is more like the mish mash you get at a local ā€œbuy swap and sellā€ with some very suspect stuff and some really good stuff. The storefront itself is fine - but if you get burnt by a dodgy product they will not see it as their issue and will toss you back to the seller to sort out any problems.

Yeah, so, Flightsim.to just started blocking the ability to download if you use an ad blocker, which, on the face of it wouldn’t be so bad, but, their presentation of ads I find to be over the top spam. Totally uninteresting ads and pop ups you have to click through to get to the download, and the ads placed front and center. Wicked annoying to me. I’m definitely going to be looking elsewhere now. Normally, on sites I like and want to support I’ll turn off my ad blocker. But this is totally over the top in my view. Sad, because it was a really good site. Hopefully they will figure out how to do it right.

Can’t you just turn it off just before you tried to download something, and turn it back on once you’re done?

You get pop ups, I don’t trust the ads they are serving, and I’d rather not support a site that is so aggressive in their use of ads. I’m going to check out some other sites and I’ll start uploading my addons there instead, until and if they decide to be more reasonable with their ad choices and positioning. What they are doing just strikes me as super spammy and untrustworthy. But that’s me. Hopefully they change their ways.

Really, I don’t mind ads if done tastefully. To me, it’s over the top now.

Depends. What do you not like about flightsim.to.

If you’re looking for freeware addons that are NOT in flightsim.to, then I can’t think of any other site. Chances are if an airport or plane is not in flightsim.to, then it doesn’t exist.

As I noted, it’s their aggressive ad tactics, choice of ad suppliers, pop ups that force you to click through before they supply the download. It’s over the top now.

I create my own airports for airports that are interesting to me, not to mention not many authors are serving the northeast US now anyway which is where I fly, in sim and for real. I’ve got six more airports ready to upload, but, I think I’ll take my business elsewhere in hopes they tone their ads down eventually. I won’t remove my airports that I’ve uploaded there for now, but, I’m not going to go every day anymore. Pretty much the only addons I really care about are scenery object libraries. Liveries and airports I can do myself.

I dunno. I’m using Adguard and I can still download things yesterday.
