So I would politely disagree. If it flies nicely, runs nicely, and doesn’t require any setup or concessions versus a “supported” aircraft, who cares if it is a “hack?”
We will need to see what helicopter flight model officially comes to MSFS. If it’s better than ours, we’ll of course update, that’s a risk for us. On the other hand, if it’s FSX-esque, or less capable/realistic, we’ll just be glad we ran our own flight-model from the start, and continue to do so.
Changing the flight model seems like a non-issue since the 3PD had to tweak their flight models after Asobo changed the ground effect simulation. That premise applies no matter how the aircraft flies.
It is similar to what PMDG does. They use their own flight model and are not dependent on any official support. Proper support is needed for developers who want to use the default flight model. It is not required for developers like Flyinside.
Fair enough. This wasn’t meant to disrespect your work. Just a little caution on my part. Would you say your flight model is on par to that of P3D’s helicopter support?
I have used every sim since the early 80’s and even though I work for Flyinside IMO the FM is amazing mate, I’ve been testing vigorously and enjoy every second. I really hope everyone does !!!
When do you think this will be at a stage for beta testing? On a percent scale from 0-100, where 0 is not started and 100 is released, what percent do you think it is done? 50%? 60?
I use a collective with the FFS flight sim and it works fine. Only problem might be the lack of specific collective function in the sim, so there might be an X-Plane style ‘wing sweep’ assignment instead.
Full collective and roll throttle control is working already and will be implemented on release
From our announcement notes above = For those of you with helicopter flight controls, our 47G has a piston engine simulation, with manual throttle control. For those running a normal joystick, you can also turn on an auto-governer and fly using 4-axis control only.
i look forward to that. I use the collective from a proflight puma, and once i got used to that, i couldnt go back to mapping collective controls to a throttle (in my cace, a virpil CM2)
will the cockpit be reconfigurable to not have that GPS screen to get a more iconic view?
i play many haour on xplane 11 , i hope its too realistic , or maybe better than xplane11? becose honestly msfs is really unrealistic approach for the moment , Nice graphic but low realistic winds, grounds effects, water effect, i hope you need to use rudder axys for good control , and not just push up cyclic and lets go flight…
The sound, animation is primordial … 3 sounds only and go delete…
need to possibility to agjust level or use headset for good sound,
AND FIRST OPTIMISE VR :)) its the reason for many players pay invest in VR
I prefer Wait and pay 40€ for Strong addon and simulation than 20€ and playing only 2 h for test it and delete …
The collective just needs an axis assignment, and for example a few helicopters in X-Plane use a ‘spare’ assignment for the collective, it’s just a bit of a quirk in the XP11 sim. So even if the sim doesn’t natively have a collective function, you can still have full collective control and a separate throttle axis. Until MSFS natively supports helicopters, it seems unlikely they would have a named collective assignment, but that won’t stop the Bell 47 working as intended I’m sure.
I’m getting the impression that not so many people in this thread have tried the Flyinside Flight Sim - these guys are good, and I’d suggest that the helicopter flight dynamics in FFS are proof that they can be trusted with a project like this.
flying the Bell 47G is like balancing a whet soap on a balloon. Therefore I think the “Goldfish Bubble” is the best way to get familar with helicopters.
