One issue ive been having more with this update is smooth flying on approach but as soon as im in the flare or just touchdown, i get a 2-4 second freeze. Happens at every airport in any plane(even the 172 6 pack). Happens at default small airports and especially at places like ewr or bos. Anyone else?

I hate those missed landings… entire flight is quite stable and even the approach is okay but just as you come in on final and start to flare it drops to 9 fps and stutter party is going on then freezing screen next sequence you find yourself already almost off the runway… how am I supposed to land a bird like this?
We already been exactly at this point, anyone remembers I think it was SU7 or SU9 when especially the final and flare was dropping massively?
I also noticed that stutters become really intense whenever there is snow in the scene. Does anyone know if snow is really rendered as individual particles and physics calculations done for each and every snow flake? Because to me it seems like something in that direction is going on otherwise it does not make sense to me why a simple snow texture would cause that much performance issues
Same here, same pc, no changes. SU 13 was running fine for me, now stutters/freezes as going on approach and when flaring. Can’t believe we are forced to update when the last SU13 was great, not sure why its needed to update so much. Why fix what was not broken?
I don’t have stutters, just far less FPS. I have a 3080 12gb and I was running at solid 60fps at 1080p for at least a year until this last update. I was running VR through a G2 reverb using the 45fps interpolation, but now with the performance loss it can’t even hit 45fps even in flat screen. I don’t know what they did but the performance is like 40% worse since the update. It didn’t happen in SU14 beta. MSI Afterburner shows neither my 3700x nor my GPU are being fully utilized. Clearing GPU cache did not help.
I haven’t noticed any specific impact of SU14…
5800X / 3080Ti
CPU was performing better with SU13. The problem is that SU14 is quite heavy for my Ryzen 5 5600X
My 2 cents worth. I’ve found since the last update, my system runs a lot hotter than before, Have had a few black screens then CTD…I’ve cleaned, blown out dust ETC but still running very hot. Usually in the high 80’s to sometimes low 90’s…
Intel(R) Core™ i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
32 GB Ram.
Had two flights today and to ctd’s on the trot. I’m main thread limited never had this before. Please. We aren’t picking on the developers but something has caused the sim to break. Over the holidays I have launched eight flights and only been able to complete three. That’s a big failure rate that would have happened in maybe sixty to seventy before the update. Can someone upstairs please please please address the issue or at least acknowledge that an unknown problem is happening to us.
I don’t run rolling cache. I do run VR.
I can sit on the runway at JFK in a GA plane. My frame rate stabilises to my fixed ASW 36fps. I turn my head left or right and the frame rate drops to < 30fps temporarily. I keep my head left or right and the frame rate stabilises back to my fixed 36fps. Turn my head straight ahead again and it once again drops below 30 and then returns to 36fps and stabilises again. I start moving without moving head, frame drops to < 30 fps again until I take off where it then returns to 36fps.
This did not happen in SU13.
I notice a lot of Object pop-in now too. Parts of airports popping in unexpectedly late. So, I also have issues on approach. I run absolutely no traffic what so ever (never have).
So in my case, nothing to do with rolling cache.
Same here,VR Pico4.
Yesterday after landing at LIML, was taxing to parking and my fps dropped really hard, never had this before. Tried everything and still couldn’t get my fps back. Restarted the sim at the same spot, all good…
Does it still happen if you eliminate all traffic? That is: turn everything on the Traffic Options page to zero or OFF.
I have always found that lowering or eliminating some traffic such as Live aircraft traffic helps me get better performing PG but this update forced me to lower everything to zero and now the sim runs OK on my XBX. (no rolling cache). I had hoped they fixed something but maybe its just my new settings.
I suspect that the off-screen terrain precaching is not working as it should. Stuttering and objects popping up, along with the stuttering when panning through the horizon, are symptoms that suggest that this setting is not working as before and now the Ultra setting is like the previous medium or low.
I hope that this is not intentional, since one of the tricks they used to make MSFS work on XBox was offloading the memory by keeping only the scenery in front of the aircraft loaded. This caused stuttering when panning and objects pop in.
Then they introduced the off-screen terrain precaching setting when PC users protested.
This is EXACTLY what I have been thinking too.
Yes, all traffic and roads and marine traffic. Everything is off.
For wha it’s worth as MS no longer give a monkeys for VR, after SU14 with Quest 3 + Virtual Desktop I can now see a degradation in performance, I can see the Game latency spiking in the performance overlay, this didn’t happen prior to SU14
I have all traffic turned off. Even cars and boats. In cruise and approach i can get a 80+ fos no issues. Its quite annoying haha.
Somebody monkeyed around on something that introduced additional latency to the main thread. Why anyone at Asobo would touch such a performance-sensitive area in SU14 is beyond me (given the change log for SU14).
I hope they can form a little tiger team to figure out who screwed up what and fix it. And after that, have the same tiger team re-design the terrible download logic yielding the 2Mbps nightmare.
You may want to take a look to this in case you have latest Windows 11 23H2 installed. I did some tests today and CPU utilization graph returned to the former one we had with older game versions, being steady instead of a rollercoaster and reducing the extreme freezes we have with SU14.
This may be an issue with CPU P+E cores after latest Windows patches, being the P cores not used for games or intensive applications as expected or at least all the time. Maybe it was configured on purpose as part of a new energy saving feature but current Windows default configuration clearly has a negative impact in games performance and in particular in MSFS case as far as I have seen.
The fix simply modifies power management profile, which is part of standard Windows energy saving features, to force P cores on long threads (the ones used by games and intensive applications most of the time), leaving the E cores for short threads (secondary tasks), as it should normally be. It can be adjusted as you prefer or restored anytime you want, so it’s totally safe. That approach is indeed the expected one by design on CPUs having such types of cores, so there was no reason to change it.
