Spent 6 hours trying different drivers and settings to not have a stuttery mess in VR with my 4090 and 9800x3d. No luck.
I feel you there. The thing I dislike the most about VR that it needs way to many settings to be set and set just right to be usable. My PC is a lot less powerful than yours (4070TI S, 9600x) but in order to not have stutters around photogrammetry I had to set the bar way below what works okay in places with no photogrammetry. Way way lower..
It become so much of a hinderance, I upgraded my pc throwing money at the problem - even changing from the latest (at the time) intel cpu to amd… with the hopes of having success, but nope. It’s a shame as it isn’t even consistent when trying to problem solve, along with each suggestion giving the opposite setting.
What did I do today?
MSFS 2024
Normally I’m more of an IFR flyer with SimBrief and Navigraph A PILOTS LIFE (PMDG FENIX, CRJ, ATR BIZJETS), but lately I’ve been learning VFR with SayIntentions.AI and OnAir (Integrated). It’s been a real learning curve switching over — especially comparing how VFR works in the UK vs the US, both in terms of airspace and radio calls.
What’s struck me most so far is how the comms feel different: in the UK you need a proper clearance before entering controlled airspace and there are services like Basic/Traffic Service available outside of it, whereas in the US, just establishing two-way comms is enough to enter Class D, with explicit clearances reserved for Class B and C. It feels a bit more straightforward stateside, though I’m still finding my way with both systems, so excuse me if I am wrong (still learning)
I’ve also been practising my circuit entries — downwind, base, and final — and trying not to overshoot the turn to final. Slowly getting smoother each time! still not perfect
Some of the flights I’ve done recently:
EGKB (London Biggin Hill) → LFAT (Le Touquet) for breakfast and back ![]()
KMKC (Charles B. Wheeler Downtown) → KALI (Alice International, Texas) for lunch
KMKT (Mankato Regional, Minnesota) → KONA (Winona Municipal – Max Conrad Field, Minnesota) for
dinner
I’m still using Navigraph for charts, but I’m now thinking about subscribing to SkyDemon or ForeFlight to help with VFR sim training.
Disclaimer: I’m not a real pilot — I know simming has its limits and isn’t the same as the real thing — but I’m having a lot of fun learning!
Sat in a dark room in the cruise flying 2024 with the Fenix A319 and watching the world pass by below to the sound of the wind and engines. Lots of aircraft lights flashing in the distance, listening to them talk to the FSHud controller…. Night ops is my ASMR and I’m quite addicted.
It’s quite a relaxing way to sip a whisky (or two) to be quite honest once the kids have gone to bed…
Happy flying everyone!
Fs2020
Fs studios embrear 170LR from Charlotte (KCLT) to Myrtle Beach (KMYR)
Fought CTD’s, 5 attempted flights, 5 CTD’s. Thought I was past this ![]()
Su3 gave me such anxiety in a very rough patch of life. Tonight I updated to SU4 beta and had the best and smoothest flight in the Fenix I have ever had.
Feeling blessed right now.
Enjoying SU4 beta😊, because SU3 is broken for me!!! since release.
From KJFK to CYYZ
I really, really don’t want to hate on MSFS2024. As I am doing the beta test for it, I’ve played around with the settings in the game here on Xbox and I’ve had good days flying and not so good days flying and by not so good days I mean the game was choppy, but people say choppy and mean different things and I’ve had both..
1 - Choppy while taking off or landing in airports like (KJFK), but to be honest, why wouldn’t it be choppy? it’s a busy airport lots of stuff going on. Plane’s coming and going, not to mention the ground crews working.
2 - Midflight choppiness, middle of a flight up in the sky and I get random freezes in the game it may just be for a brief second, but it’s annoying, especially when it’s mid-flight and you’re not flying through a city or something with a ton of graphics.
That’s why I flew back to CYYZ (if you’ve been following me for a while you know why). I don’t want to give up on my flying but I think I’m going to go back to MSFS2020 while the kinks continue to get worked out of 2024… Oh and two pictures from my last flight, the skyline of Toronto and my perfect landing.
How was your experience? I’ve only been flying the turbine duke in FS24 and I encountered no major issues. My only problem is that on my preferred livery (N85K), my registration number sometimes blinks in and out constantly and is then replaced with black rectangles:
But inside the cockpit everythings just fine. I love that plane.
What did I do in MSFS today? I tried MSFS2024 again - but realising the ATC sounded drunk, I went back to MSFS2020!
Yeah they are still having issues with the registration number on this and the TBM. If you’re updated to the recent version released this week, there is now a 2024 installer and an option in the EFB to completely turn the dynamic registration off so you don’t have the rectangle. If the livery itself has no registration number, then you won’t see any numbers on the plane, but I’m OK with that if it gets rid of the flickering.
Other than that, everything works great! This is my first time in the Dukes (didn’t own them in 2020) and it’s typical Black Square goodness. Will probably trigger some failures tonight to see how that runs. The only other issue I’ve encountered and others have reported is that the Grand Duke doesn’t work, unless you start on the runway.
The 2024 ATC isn’t great (which is why I use an outside app), but personally, I think 2020 is worse. For almost every flight in 2020 for me, default ATC would continually assign non-sensical flight levels, or vector me into a mountain.
Yes, I agree - I usually use BATC, but wanted to do a VFR in a Cessna. Can’t wait for them BATC to provide for GA, but still using MSFS ATC for that. MSFS2020 ATC isn’t as bad as 2024, which sounds as if all controllers have been at an all night party.
Where are you flying in 2024? I’ve never heard these drunk ATCs, sounds like fun
Although yes I understand the frustration.
Basically no flying today because I kept going to fs2020 and fs2024 through both fleets trying to settle on flying an aircraft and didn’t end up flying anything the whole day
I’ve had days like that - trying to figure out what to fly until you look at the clock and then realize the only place you’re going to fly is to bed!
