Skymate ai - perfect for GA/VFR flights
Jet Card - perfect for business jet flight.
Now if I could find a nice NON-SUBSCRIPTION real world passenger scheduled flight program, I’d be a happy camper. APL2 just doesn’t do it for me.
After terrible VR experience with multiple planes and different locations (micro and some kind of scenery delay stutter, hard to describe) did a complete reinstall of the sim. 3 times… Could not return to main menu after 1st install, could only choose TAA in VR after 2nd install, 3rd install seems to do the job. Trial and error. SU4 was great, SU5 in 2D perfect, 5.1 drama in VR. Bye bye Sunday. Sim should be fun. This isn’t.
Just flied Activities | Discovery flights for 2 hours in VR (Quest3, VD) and really enjoyed. Not a single issue and only few minor stutters. 5.1 has been almost perfect for me so far. Much better than any previous releases.
It’s a pity that some users have issues while others are flying happily
Have you tried to disable all addons and try with vanilla msfs24? I have quite many apps and addons running without issues, but if there was some issue, I would first disable all my addons, and add them back one-by-one.
Yes, add on linker to disable all, do that most of the time with VR to run it as clean as possible. Did a recent upgrade from 48GB DDR4 3600 cl18 to 64GB DDR5 6000 cl30. 14600K (waiting for zen6 and Nova lake to decide the next cpu upgrade), 4070S, 3440x1440. Also have the Quest3. Most of the time I have to pause the Q3 with the power button and restart to drop my latency from around 80+ to around 40 in Virtual Desktop after a settings change, do you have the same? I have a dedicated AXE5400 6E 50cm from my head, can also use over ethernet/usb-c connection.
In 2D had the best ever experience in SU5.1, not a single stutter from heavy scenery EHAM (FlyTampa) to EGLL with BATC, all the live traffic with FSLTL, but VR with the 172 and other planes over EHRD and TFFJ was suddenly terrible. The frustrating thing is the hit and miss with MSFS24. A complete new install after every SU seems to be necessary. Only deleting shader cache, RC, etc is not enough at my system. I run my system with almost no background programs other than system, fan control, BATC and GSX, no overlay, etc, dedicated m.2 (both system m.2 and MSFS24 m.2 not more than 40% full), cpu and gpu not exceeding 55c. 1GB connection also. What else can you do.
And all other sims/games work flawless. So it must be the sim. Too many if than I think or their servers.
But glad it works for you and most simmers, VR worked for me too until 5.1, 2D is fantastic, no more popping in scenery.
Happy flying!
I really liked these, too bad they aren’t in FS24. I think I have read somewhere they will be made available at some point, but not sure when.
Yes, they are bringing them all over from 2020. It was in one of Jorgs streams so it will happen.
The sooner the better
They are quick to jump into, and really different to the usual A to B IFR flights I usually do so it’s a fun alternative.
Definitely, I experienced the first leg of 1 today. I did not realise that some of them are very long in hours. That was a nice surprise. I thought it would be a 20 min or so challenge and over! I can see what folks are raving about now. I just hope I don’t finish them all before they port them over! ![]()
I’m going to have to check out Neofly’s career mode is Neofly any good?
I used it for a month or to, then lost interest. It was a nice distraction.
Trying to avoid woke discussions.
Finally found what is this sign on my freeware Mariposa (KMPI) scenery. Initially, I put this call-for-help…
… and find on Internet a picture displaying the real sign… and voila
I am working on building a virtual copilot does monitor the instruments relevant for each entry in the checklist to see if the pilot, me, has done what the items on the checklist require me to do. It just monitors, listens to me, and speaks to me, but does not fly the plane or modify instruments; it is not an autopilot. My main plane is the C310R with just analog gauges, as they were being used while I did fly real GA planes.
Sounds similar to FS2Crew. Although that program can do some switch flipping / control manipulation as well.
Good luck! I’m sure it will be fun to work on.
What did I do today?
Well. . . . This is kind of a summary of the last month-or-so’s activity.
First: Glitchy behavior and random crashes to the BIOS - I (eventually) discovered that one of my “spinning rust” hard drives was failing - throwing random read errors and causing the entire SATA I/O subsystem to temporarily hang busy. I replaced it and all the glitchiness/random crashes to the BIOS disappeared.
I updated some M.2 SSDs to 4t each. Cost like oil rights but I have more room now. I hate when drives get full, strange things happen.
I enrolled in Extended Updates for Win-10, and updated both 2020 and 2024 to the latest rev. I also downloaded and locally installed a lot of streamed content. That took awhile, but (IMHO), I think it’s worth it.
Finally (today) I dug out the joystick/throttle and flew the Diamond DV20 out of Ostafyavo (UUMO) in clear daylight conditions, did a circuit, and landed in one piece. Wheel struts intact, no oil slick on the runway, and I was even able to actually PARK the aircraft without running all over the grass! Yea, I know, a snore-fest for all you hot-shot pilots, but for me that was a definite win.
All in all a successful, albeit a white-knuckle flight.
P.S.
I wish 2024 wouldn’t keep loosing my controller bindings for my joystick/throttle! Especially since I can’t backup and restore my controller settings. . .
Aaaaaand back home from my trip halfway around the world in the blacksquare turbine duke.
Had a mad idea while nursing a hangover New Years Day 2026. I know, I will ferry a turbine duke out to Sydney, Australia and come home via a completely different route and in a different variant.
I had committed to civil aircraft just before Xmas and was in the process of ripping my A10 Thunderbolt cockpit apart and climbed over abandoned switch panels, scrapped side consoles and assorted detritus to sit in my new work in progress, a civil light aircraft cockpit, complete with honeycomb civilian yoke and throttles. About the only thing left was my chair and the screen.
14:00hrs that day, I sallied forth from Leeds Bradford and flew down to France, landed and that was that till my next day off.
I flew in ■■■■ weather, hail, wind, fog, snow and heavy rain and mostly in the dark, landing in Sydney several months later in strong wind, heavy rain and about 2am local time. Weeks and months passed without seeing daylight, really until I crossed China on my return, whence dawn was starting break.
Little did I know my new cockpit was going to be short lived when setting out. About China time on the return journey, a motion platform was ordered and arrived somewhere around Uzbekistan. Once again I was climbing over discarded bits and pieces to access my rig.
By the time I arrived in Rostov on Don, Southern Russia. the rig was dialled in and I was enjoying getting my teeth rattled out by the atrocious runways in the ex Soviet Union.
Of course, the trip was conducted in real time and real weather and taking into account local conditions. Russia is short of fuel, tried to make Archangel from Rostov (Archangel was not reporting fuel shortages at the time), but even climbing to 27,000ft to conserve fuel, it was obvious the winds were not kind and I had to return to Rostov with just enough fuel left to get me to Batumi Georgia and refuel again.
This meant going home via Turkey, Greece, Italy, France and crossing the channel into the UK.
Todays last stint was taking off from Lyon, France, Landing at Orly to refuel, setting sail home via Rouen, Abbeville, Bologne Sur Mer, Lydd and thence to LBA. Once over England, I descended to 2000ft to sightsee and ignore the fuel burn.
When I set off the trees were bare and I did not have Bijan Seasons. On my low level return the trees are green, and seeing the yellow of gorse bushes in the thickets was absolutely stunning.
Bijan did a great job.
At Leeds, had to abort my approach and go around because a Jet2 737 was taking to the runway, but made it in safely.
The trip represents around 140 flying hours including starting the aircraft, taxying around and also landing and securing the aircraft. It also represents 7 months in time as many weekends i was more interested in touring around the UK, sightseeing in the Comanche than flying in the dark, above a solid overcast.
I started sat in an old office chair and finished atop a motion platform, something I never envisaged on that New Years Day, when I first hit the starter on number two engine.
