Playtime gone missing [Packages out of date]

I went into content manager today to investigate something for another forum user. For the first time I saw this in content manager:

If I go into options>data and cycle online functionality off (and save) and then on (and save) and then try to return to the main menu I get this error:

When I click ‘No’ online functionality gets turned off.

However the three packages that before claimed to need updating no longer show as needing to be updated.

Going back into the options>data page and recycling online functionality off and then on and this time exiting the flight sim using Alt+F4 allows the sim to restart with online functions working. However it will again show the same 3 packages that need to be updated.

I have not tried manually updating these packages as I think it is an erroneous message.

I will see later if this method of restarting the sim with online functions working, without updating anything, allows for an uninterrupted flight. Hopefully the error message won’t present itself in flight!

This is the same I experienced, but I have performed the 3 updates requested (about 286 Mb download) and then the warning message was gone

Note that when online functionality is turned off, there is no update shown, and no marketplace available also, as it seems in this case, MSFS does no longer check for updates or marketplace content

I would be interested to know if, under your profile, all your flight hours and logbook entries are still intact.
I hope they are still there!

There have been others for whom updating seems to wipe these.

I have tried everything to fix it even cycling the online functionality but as soon as i press apply and save he same warning pops up and in my content manager there is nothing to update even and the worst is i cant get photometry scenery nor live weather nor live traffic and all my flight hours and achievements are no longer there!!
This is so disheartening and i have tried everything logging out of everywhere reinstalling MSFS which took a whooping 14 hours but still the same insane error!

Yep, everything looks fine, no data lost, logbook and flight hours, marketplace is correct also:

Popup did not show again since I did the 3 packages update

Thanks!

Update: I installed the three updates through content manager as described in my post above. (I emptied the community folder first- as I always do before installing any ingame stuff to avoid any possible problems- and re-added the community folder contents after I closed the sim.)

On rebooting the sim all current stats are intact and there are no packages shown in content manager that need to be updated.

If you save and leave the options menu to get back to the main screen, it will always pop up the error again, because the sim is still in this state of having packages out of date.

You have to enable online functionality, save and as soon as it is saved hit Alt+F4 to close the sim. If you restart it, you start it with the previously saved enabled online functionality.

Edit: to make it more clear: DO NOT leave the options after saving. Just hit Alt F4 from there

Tried your method to right now and as soon as I pressed save and apply and it got saved I pressed alt and F4 and then restarted the sim but as soon I restarted the sim the same error appears again ! What am I doing wrong it’s just not working

Note that clicking on “Yes” on the popup worked for me, the sim will restart by itself and display a black screen with “Hit any key to continue” blinking message
Then it loads
If online is disabled (marketplace icon is greyed), re-enable it, save and go back to menu
From menu: Profile, then Content Manager, then look for updates

When the sim reloaded by this method, I did not have the popup again, and I could go to the content manager to update the 3 packages

For me clicking “yes” on the popup always freeze the sim or goes in a loop. However signing off and back on sometimes work.
I set online “on”, sign out with my profile avatar and log back in.
This doesn’t work permanently, after some time I get a popup again.

After clicking yes, I had to wait a few instants to have the black screen with hit any key…
IMHO, same amount of time for a sim shutdown + a start, so probably between 30s and 1 mn

Thank you for your reports.
The pop-up “Warning: Your packages are out of date.” appears in order to prepare MSFS for the release of the upcoming World Update IV. This message may appear when the sim switch from offline to online mode or requires a refresh of the online functionality.

To get rid of this pop-up, click Yes. The sim will restart by itself.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Nope. The bug came to me when I was online and switched the sim offline. Bringing the online functionality ‘on’ was impossible, the sim kept switching itself offline.

And what about the loss of date (stats and preferences) ?

It would be nice if the team ceased to tweak stuff without measuring the consequences in the user computers.

Clicking on No will turn the sim offline

Just seen Taleboules2146 Community Support post. A bit late. I followed the instructions on screen last night and ending up losing my camera settings and logbook. It would be better if we could control the product we have paid for .

yes the bug switched the sim offline and my tries to put it back online were unsuccessful. At the end, I said yes and was brought to the “press any key screen” working in a loop ! At the restart the stats and preferences of the General and Assistance tab were lost.

Your post is not entirely true, at least ist was not in my case (and in many other cases), see here Playtime gone missing
I never switched between online and offline, and my playtime, logbook and some achievements got reset to zero.

Why would the sim need to prepare itself for the update? And why does it result in data loss? This is simply unacceptable.

happening to me do you think its a bug

I’m sorry but from a support point of view this info isnt helpful.
These ppl want to know what’s happened to there profiles and how they can retrieve it.
Your kinda telling them what they already know.

There is no detailed explanation as to why the logbooks, flying hours and in some case’s achievments are missing.

Rick
