Please Do Not Disable Simrate In Career Mode

You are right!

A quote to sum up this whole topic.
“You can’t use logic to persuade someone who didn’t use logic to reach their viewpoint in the first place.”

The only nonsense is what you claimed. You are the one trying to shoehorn this into some fake narrative.

Hey, if you and a few friends want to compete, then do so. Set the rules however you want and have fun. That does not make the game itself, especially single player career mode, competitive. That entire notion is laughable, and no one else has to abide by your desires because no one else is competing.

But even if this was competitive, your argument, and other similar arguments, fall flat for one singular reason. Everyone is able to use sim rate adjustments! It can not be cheating or anti-competitive if everyone is playing by the same rules, even if one of the rules is not intended. There is simply no counter-argument against that other than your own self-imposed restrictions that you selfishly want everyone else to follow.

I will NEVER use simrate. EVER! I have flown 12 hour flights, real time, because i like it. That’s the way the sim was supposed to be used. It’s called a simulator for a reason.

:+1:

Great, you play the way you want to play. You seem to have a solid understanding of how the simulator is supposed to be used. Maybe you should write a guide for all of us to get a deeper understanding of the intended use of the simulator. It may clear up all our misunderstandings of the simulator.

After all, I have a pilots license and used the simulator to help me with training and used it to keep my skills fresh when I can’t get out in the real world but I could always get more lessons on how to use the simulator properly.

All that hard work, and 339cr to your name. Just like real aviation. <ducks>

Folks, some of the posts here are going off-topic. Please stick to the wish being requested:
Do not disable the Sim Rate in Career Mode

and remember from the SOP:

  • One World, One Community - No matter how you play – regardless of platform, experience level, or reason – we are one community of aviation lovers.
  • A Pilot is a Pilot - Treat everyone in the community with respect, and seek to have positive experiences with your fellow pilots.

Thank you.

We often had fun at work discussing…is it a sport or a game? Think of Tennis.

Likewise is it a game or a simulator? Simulators are used to train real pilots, and there are established procedures at every airport, as well as legally enforceable Air Traffic Rules in each country. Head into restricted airspace with audio off and you might be on the wrong end of a heat seeking missile. :scream: :boom:

I do my best to fly safely, I see it as an interesting challenge.

I could not agree more. In fact I would go on to say that if they do nerf sim rate in career mode , that will simply be the end of my playing career mode. I’ll most likely just go back to XPlane 12. Furthermore, I would recommend not buying Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and instead invest in XPlane 12.

Honestly if they do disable it in career mode, within a week somebody will have a hack/patch that allows you to do it anyway.

But you are not using logic, you are using a cheat. And nothing any of you say, will change that.

Nope, if you want guidance, skip the skipping and fly… And get hours, like the almost 15.000 hours i have ever since is started flying sims in the 1980’s.

There you go, you play as YOU like  That’s great to have that option isn’t it?
However, to suppose is to assume. That’s applying artificial rules to a behavior which fits your your rules, the rules in your mind. You cant imagine what other people suppose (me, others, developers, designers etc).

Suppose I’m not to fly without engine icing? I’ve turned it off.

  • Gyro drift? Turned it off.
  • Turn off clouds before VFR flight? Indeed doing so.
  • Changing the date & time of the flight to have a summer-flight instead of winter? Yes I do.
  • Following the blue boxes, they are visible. Not turned them off.
  • Full ATC procedures and following taxi directions? Nope, not doing that.

Cheating is a label you use to put a baseline standard on YOUR rules to play the game. I’m fine with you labeling me as a cheat, because it’s only in your mind.

Perhaps you should look a bit inwards why this is such a big problem, why you need to label other people. A shame really.

Look, we all want to have different experiences. That’s the common factor for all of us. That’s what brings us together. We just need to agree that we still want to fly/play as we like. :flight_departure: :mountain_snow: :flight_arrival:

And get hours, like the almost 15.000 hours i have ever since is started flying sims in the 1980’s.

Just to do some math here… 15,000 hours over the 42 years since Microsoft Flight simulator was released is about 7 hours every week since the first game was released in 1982. That takes some real passion. I love flight simulators too so I can understand the appeal.

I would be surprised if there were more than 50 people in the world who have put that much time in simulators. So, it isn’t in the range of typical time commitment for this product. I think Microsoft wants to get a broad appeal and get more people passionate about aviation. So, please be open to the way others may want to enjoy the game and maybe aren’t willing to commit as much time to it as you are.

With so many amazing missions and options in career mode I plan on never using sim rate changes at all and personally wouldn’t miss it as I never changed it. The best pilots will agree that everyone has to grind through many flights to fully achieve goals and ratings, and with a sim having this much realism is a rare find for sure.

However, those that wish to use sim rate to race through the career mode, at least they are enjoying the career and missions as the world is a large playground to fully see but at the same time I don’t think this sim was meant to be a speed run experience.

Happy Flights everyone and best wishes with everyones career paths in the sim.

I’m referring to games as we were younger… Games on Gameboy, Sega, NES etc were hard to be successful sometimes and the feeling when you get it done by yourself without “cheating” was an Incredible proud feeling.

Yes, but that was when I was younger and single, and didn’t have a ‘real job’ and a family, and could just order a pizza and play World of Warcraft from the moment I got home until 2am undisturbed.

There was a time that I could rack up 1700+ hours in a VA in FS98.

That time was…1998.

Is there some sort of best pilots group that made this determination? Is there minutes from the meeting that I can see where this was voted on? Best pilots association or something?

Sure, you need to practice a lot to improve your piloting skills. However, we are talking about some gamification of a simulator. It’s just a game. The best pilots will agree that getting $800k on a Cargo-medium missions does nothing to improve piloting skill. For that matter, sitting and staring at a screen for 3 hours while your plane is on auto-pilot does little for your piloting skill. The best pilots will agree that accelerating through cruise and focusing your time on take-offs, approaches and landings will improve your piloting skills.

Sorry, this is not directed directly at you CraftyTigers, but you just totally summed it up there. Maybe unintentially, but a level of forthright arrogance that is the root of this whole thread. A small number of people who believe that they are so qualified to have an opinion of how others should play a game. Please, please stop referring to career mode as a simulator, it’s so far from being a simulation of realistic flight operations that it’s just hilarious that people are trying to make that argument. If you want to fly in MSFS2024 with any realism, then you are going to need to do it in free flight with a quality study level plane, using 3rd party scenery and on Vatsim or using SayIntentions or BeyondATC.

I appreciate that you went out of your way to accept that all should be able to play as they like but yet again this rather pompous attitude is there that only the ‘Best Pilots’ will play the game ‘properly’ by not accelerating time but those ‘Best Pilots’ are quite happy to follow little blue arrows and rectangles in the sky.

This argument cracks me up every time I see it. This is a video game, man. HOWEVER, if you want to go down the road of using it as a simulator: do you know how often we use time acceleration in level D sims during AQP-approved training at the airlines? That would be a… Simulator, would it not?

The whole idea of a simulator is that it is NOT a real airplane, and so you are not bound by the restrictions inherent in operating a real airplane. That is literally the whole point. A simulator is a tool, to be used as needed given the circumstances.

How you use your simulator has absolutely no bearing on how the next person does. Just like in real sims - I may be getting out of the sim after conducting a LOFT event in real time from gate to gate, and the next instructor may be getting in to conduct a maneuvers val that will involve time accel and subsequent motion freeze on every downwind and base. Should I tell him that’s wrong? :joy:

the next instructor may be getting in to conduct a maneuvers val that will involve time accel and subsequent motion freeze on every downwind and base. Should I tell him that’s wrong?

Probably need to tell him that the best pilots agree that he needs to grind his way through that simulation to get his ratings.

Well… the teleporter is not working now. FS2024 is dead to me. Thank you for spoiling my enjoyment of the game. Career mode is no longer interesting to me. This is what I bought the FS2024 for.
With all the bugs and crashes, the teleport made up for it. And in general, I saved a lot of time. Those who wanted this, are you satisfied?

Your enjoyment from the game came from loading a flight, teleporting to your destination and not flying at all?
