Did I say that? It seems to me that you are trying to impose a dialogue that will lead to nothing.
I don’t see what other purpose the teleporter would serve besides minimising flight time, that’s what simrate is for ![]()
That’s conjecture with no basis in reality though.
Newsflash! Not everyone wants to play how you want to play. I know it’s a really really complicated idea, but I can’t say it any simpler.
You think sim rate is cheating. Then don’t use it. ![]()
If I’d spent 15,000 hours of my life playing video games… I dunno man, that’s not something I’d want to reflect on or tell anyone else about. ![]()
I mean he’d be pretty content with that… Dozens of extra hours in the box, home every night, at check airman override? I mean, sign me up.
His students, however, might squawk a bit. ![]()
Thanks for moderating. I know it’s a lot of work. Appreciate all you do as volunteer moderators.
I will note that the people who do not wish for this would like nothing more than the wish to be closed. So, I’m not sure that threat will be that effective.
That said, everything is pretty much covered. There should be enough in this thread for developers to understand the community interest in this.
It’s not just MSFS. It was Falcon 4.0 / BMS, DCS, Janes. Any flightsim out there and i have time on it. Now i have more time, because i’m a disabled veteran. Flying keeps me from doing stupid stuff. Keeps my PTSD on a leash.
Flightsims, not videogames. By now it should be clear i’m pretty serious when it comes to flightsims.
Give it time.
I respect and appreciate your commitment to making the experience as realistic as possible. However, what others choose to do in their own game especially when it doesn’t impact your experience shouldn’t really be a concern.
tl;dr: I like sim rate but let’s work together
Before this topic is closed at some point (for reasons), I would like to leave my position in favor of retaining the sim rate here. I think that was a little too brief in my first post.
Like many others, I have a full-time job that is very demanding. I try to fly as much as I can but sometimes that’s only 3 or 4 hours a week.
During this time I also want to have some variety in the missions. If I only play a ferry mission of 1 hour, that’s fine, but I would also like to play a cargo mission of 1:30 hours at the same day. I don’t want to rush through the career. But I want to make reasonable progress, even if I don’t get to play regular.
I also want to experience something. It’s nice that you can skip taxiing or cruise flight, but I don’t like that because it takes away a lot from my experience. I just want to speed up a passage here and there. Nothing more.
I think the sim rate is perfect for that.
And I don’t think limiting the sim rate is the way to go, because it would take away a lot of the appeal for me.
I don’t want to go into the (sometimes bogus) arguments of sim rate opponents too much here. Other players have already written much better on the subject, such as @TheOldWiseMan, @jponline77 or @RafahelBF to name just a few.
But I would like to say a few words to the dogmatists.
After I made some very drastic comments yesterday about the behavior of some people, I would now like to try something more conciliatory.
Some of you hardcore simmers probably read my words wrinkling your nose. You probably don’t see me as your equal and perhaps even look down on me with contempt.
You do this because I don’t take your sim as seriously as you do.
I’m not going to apologize for that, I have my reasons, but I’m sorry you feel that way and I’m sorry that career mode isn’t what you want right now.
But let’s be honest, the change from simulator to game has already taken place with the release on Xbox in 2020. Career mode is the current culmination of this development.
Asobo is trying to do the incredible balancing act of making the sim accessible to casual players and maintain the key features of a sim at the same time. I don’t think that’s an easy task, but it’s a necessary step to maintain the high level of the simulator as a whole, especially in terms of finances.
It goes without saying that such a change will not be smooth. Unfortunately, in order to reach the normal players, compromises have to be made in terms of realism. There is no other way.
But I think it would be better not to close your minds to this, but to work together with us casuals and Asobo to ensure that everyone gets what they want, even if this sometimes results in a compromise.
So, let’s not bash each other’s heads in, let’s be constructive. Otherwise we’ll all lose.
Sorry for the long text. I’m off to shovel snow.
My few cents on this topic with a possible solution for alot of discussions arount the career.
-
Competitive Career (Hardcore Mode):
- Features: No Sim Rate, All Assists Off, No Auto-Startup: This would cater to the hardcore players who desire full realism and immersion. These settings would ensure that the simulation is as close to real life as possible, which is essential for those who appreciate the complexity of aircraft operations and want to experience every aspect of flight without shortcuts.
- Application: This could be seen as a more traditional, “high-skill” career mode where every task from planning to execution demands real effort and knowledge, appealing to those who want a challenge and are willing to invest significant time. This could be a place for achievments and an online leaderbord for players to share their hard earned progress.
-
Open and Customizable Career (Flexible Mode):
- Features: Difficulty Settings, Adjusted Economy and Time Rewards: For players with less time or those who are more interested in customizing their experience, this mode would allow flexibility in how they engage with the game. Whether it’s simplifying certain mechanics, adjusting the economy to progress faster, or allowing easier access to certain features, it would cater to those who want a more relaxed and personal experience.
- Community Content Integration: Allowing mods and community-made aircraft would be a huge boon for the game’s diversity, giving players the chance to experience a wider variety of aircraft and missions. This would make the game more inclusive and appealing to a broader audience.
- Balance of Time vs. Reward: For players with limited time, having a system that adjusts rewards based on playtime or difficulty would be a smart way to balance the progression curve.
-
Sandbox Mode (For Casual Players and Fun Missions):
- Features: Everything Unlocked, No Restrictions: This mode would be perfect for those who just want to explore, practice specific skills like slingloading or search-and-rescue (SAR), or simply have fun without the constraints of career progression. It would provide freedom for players to do missions they enjoy, regardless of how much time they’ve invested in other modes or career options.
- Use Case: Players who don’t have the time to invest in a long career arc can still enjoy the rich content of the game by picking specific tasks or scenarios that interest them.
-
Fostering Collaboration and Respect:
- Acknowledging Different Player Needs: The MSFS community is diverse, with people having different levels of enthusiasm, time commitment, and skill. By offering options that cater to various playstyles, everyone can find an experience that suits them, and this would likely reduce tensions within the community.
- Developer Support for These Options: If Asobo could offer these two distinct career paths and customizable settings, it would not only make the game more flexible but also show that they are listening to the diverse needs of their player base. This could create a more harmonious community and greater user satisfaction.
In conclusion, a dual-career system with customizable difficulty settings and distinct modes (competitive, open/customizable, and sandbox) would provide a lot of value to players of all types. By acknowledging the diversity of the community and offering choices that cater to different preferences, Asobo could enhance the overall experience and bring people together rather than splitting them apart.
How is that cheating?, even strategy games can speed up time, is that cheating? I don’t think so. Many people, myself included, have barely one.
That would probably the best solution. Maybe create a new Wishlist topic? Or may we post some relevant topics here?
For example:
Add more airplane variety to the career mode
“Professional” mode in Career
Career Mode - Add economy difficulty settings
But from all this topics your suggestion is more comprehend and structured.
Has it happened with other flight simulators? I can’t remember…
There are a ton of other MMO’s where the developers or publishers have manipulated aspects of their games to make the sale of boosters more likely.
Don’t be limited by the flight sim aspect. There will be departments at MS that see MSFS as nothing more than a shopfront for DLC, and MTX.
Don’t be surprised if they start selling clothing for your career avatars, for example.
I have a feeling these same type of people end up in government.
I have to disagree with this.
I prefer as real as one could possibly simulate. I fly and teach procedures and probably follow a “real to life” flight more so than most.
I would not want my career mode “dumbed down” because I don’t want to fly an 8 hour trans atlantic leg.
There is nothing “less skillfull” about how I fly while using sim-rate. I’m planning and flying all proper SID/STARS APP etc… and would prefer real ATC etc…
No matter how “real” this sim ever gets… I still won’t want to watch my flight sim for 8 hours during an autopilot flight over the ocean.
That isn’t cheating or less realistic. Its called good time management. I have a life to live outside of this hobby.
If you need a challenge and leaderboards and competition… go to the challenge league… I’m there too… Gold league, 1’st place “Trevoc”, or see you in platinum next week. Thats where you can brag.
And superb why you want others to do like you???
I never fly without using acceleration and it is form me 100 procent realistic and full Simulation
