I get your reasoning, but it’s not needed in the sim’s current state. The only way it would matter would be if there was a leaderboard or other competitive aspect added into the sim, which I personally doubt would happen. If it did, it would mean erasing everyone’s current career and forcing them to restart under those new restrictions to participate in the hardcore mode. I don’t think the users would take too kindly to losing their progress like that. There’s also the question of just how to organize the leaderboards. For example, if there is one for the highest earnings or most planes, you are effectively rewarding the amount of free time people have and not actual skills.
Outside of that, those would be users of a hardcore mode can already do so, just without the competitive aspect (unless they want to make up their own). There is no need to separate the groups.
There already is a wishlist item for this, which would be a nice to have.
Everyone who voted in this topic, please cast your vote here as well. We will not let you kill our interest in career mode and love for this game*.* (and I remind you that the API is not only VFRmap, it is a large number of plugins and mods that will allow us to enjoy this game in full)
You do realize it’s not cheating when the same abilities and rules are available to all, and any restrictions you put on it for your gameplay are self imposed, right?
A simple question that no one ever seems to want to answer in these discussions: if time accel is “cheating”, why is it commonly used in real simulators? (“Real” meaning the kind you can legally log time in, vs the video games we call sims here on our desktop computers.).
If I use it during AQP-footprint events with the full blessing of regulatory agencies, how do you define it as “cheating” in a game?
sigh I just hope you are aware of the fact that the “cheaters" keep your sim up and running, at least on the long run.
So call me whatever you want, but you’ll have to deal with me.
But now I am of the thought that they should just treat it as a form of a skip, because that is essentially what it is.
Deduct from the No Skip bonus based on the percentage of the flight spent with sim rate jacked up. If it is a 200 mile trip and you spend 100 miles of that sped up reduce the no-skip bonus by 50%.
Otherwise the No Skip bonus becomes pretty meaningless on it’s own if you can simply work around it with Sim Rate.
That’s why I would prefer the sim rate over the skipping mechanism.
I personally don’t think that this has to be punishable at all (because, you know, single player yada, yada, yada) but that can be discussed once the career mode is fully developed.
sometimes, I don’t get the option to skip the cruise (I just had a 3.5-hour flight with the 208, had less time, want to skip… There was no option to skip, so I used max simrate
if you skip, the plane sometimes is lying in a forest, in a mountain, or just 30kft above the destination… so you completely crash your rating, using simrate prevents that bug
Once again, it’s only single player, so no one cares!
Teleportation does all this. Which they blocked. (My God, they even blocked the API for (!) SINGLE PLAYER game mode!) Simrate will not solve problems with getting stuck in trees and rocks on the strip… If the game crashes, then I will use the teleporter to return to the mission to the place where I finished. And I will not go through it again for 3 hours.
All, absolutely all flight simulators for PC, I played in the last 25 years, had/have time acceleration in single player modes. It is ridiculous that someone even raises this as a non simulator factor or even call it a cheat?
You really want to sit 3h in front of a screen doing nothing while you turn AP on in nav mode? What does that simulate? Or even better how is that an indication of any skill or make one a better SIM pilot?
In real level D sims? We do it all the time. There’s no way you can fit all of maneuvers val day into a continuous circuit. And plenty of other examples. EVERY airline uses it lol.
