Thank you. You fixed Asobo’s booboo. I surely hope someone from their team reached out to thank you.
No Microsofts Boo Boo, not Asobo… MS made the gaming service and you were in their beta. This is called beta testing. Things go wrong.
Asobo is not operating in a vacuum here - they have a large developer team and are operating under the aegis of Windows Gaming as the sim’s publisher. The right hand needs to be aware of what the left hand is doing, not let smart users have to figure out dumb stuff like this.
And for the record, I’ve been and in several cases still remain a part of closed, invitation-only alpha and beta testing programs for Microsoft and a couple other Very Large Technology Companies which shall remain nameless due to active NDAs going back for over 15 years. These tests have included complex hardware devices and software applications. When stuff like this pops up, it is recognized quickly by designated test-community liaison personnel - testers are not left to twist in the breeze to disseminate workarounds while other users go “iTs A bEta WhAt DiD yOu ExPeCt hurr hurr hurr …”
So spare me the lecture.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
it doesn’t launch on last beta and on release version (1.26.5.0)
Are you using DX12?
no
Are you using DLSS?
no
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
I am having the same issue. Repeatedly tried starting the sim, rebooting the laptop, starting. No dice. Still the message asking me to Insert Disk…
See my post above to get rid of the disc insert error
This should 100% work as it has done for many people
Was ready to form a lynch mob before finding out it has nothing to do with MSFS, but was the Microsoft Gaming services beta I’d forgotten about signing up for!
I’ve quit the Gaming Services beta and deleted the software in power shell, then MSFS prompted the correct install of Gaming Services automatically.
Please edit your solution where you have posted it to include typing the command ‘powershell’ first. The powershell commands I included will fail with a terminal. The reboots are needed for people that automatically start Game Bar.
It works, I did it. I made one misstep as the instructions weren’t as a clear as they are now and removed myself from the beta when I removed myself from the LEGACY insider Xbox program. Don’t do that!!! Given that the solution didn’t come from Microsoft is was full of untested risk, which bit me. MS should have issued a correction and I shouldk now better that to follow random advice in the internet which has been changing every six hours.
I uninstalled the Gaming Services beta. I rebooted. Still didn’t work.
So now I get to type first command and second command. What first command and second command? And I don’t understand what it is I am supposed to be entering a Get for from the store. MSFS? Am I required to do a full reinstall?
Good to see it working for people. All credit for this workaround should go to @tamalien, who’s a moderator here. I just typed it up quickly as I was up late. Roll on SU11 beta 1…
I am very confused here. Im trying to follow PotentialTerrors solution
- Went into XBox hub and left the Windows Gaming preview
- Rebooted
- Tried MSFS, still wanted disk
- Started a terminal window
- Had no idea what first command and second command were to enter in the terminal window, but I am supposed to get something from store. So I start the store
- Tried getting MSFS. Wouldn’t let me because it was already installed
- Tried installing for XBox Game Pass. It wouldn’t let me because I was a higher version
- Went into XBox hub and left MSFS preview
- Rebooted PC
- Go into MSFS, still asks for disk
- Uninstall MSFS
- Install clean
- Asks for boot disk
What exactly am I supposed to be doing a Get on in the Windows store?
Here is the complete instructions on the fix. Though instead of opening cmd open powershell as admin. Hope this helps
Thank you. That worked. And I’m glad you answered, I was just in the process of copying my Community directory to the network drive so I could do an Alienware Factory Reset.
Hi everyone, thank you for your patience and continued reports.
We were able to confirm that this instance of this issue is related to being enrolled in the Gaming Services beta in Windows Gaming - version 6.69.8002.0, specifically. It has now been added as a Known Issue for the Windows Gaming App.
As mentioned in the above link, a fix for this is expected in the next Gaming Services release, but in the meanwhile we can suggest the workaround/solution earlier in this thread to leave the Windows Gaming beta. Leaving the SU10 beta should also resolve the error. Please note that leaving the beta early runs small risk of having your statistics in your Pilot Profile reset.
We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused, and I’d once again like to thank you all for your reports that have allowed us to help identify this.
Is there any fix here? I was at 253 of 500 airports!!!
You shouldn’t need to leave the SU10 beta, just the Gaming Services Beta. Then delete the Gaming Services software and try to start MSFS. This should prompt you to install the stable version of the Gaming Services and then MSFS should start normally.
Finally I was able to get it fixed stable, I had just need to reboot on each 2 powershell entry, not doing both at the same time, also installing game service after now all fine!
Ps:No one should uninstall or opt out, it’s game service issue, not related to Asobo.
I agree, it just wasn’t clear this morning when there was no clear direction. Can we get the content back?
