have you read the FCOM?

Check your bleed air? What are your oil and Ng2 temps and pressures? Looks like no fuel flow? Need more information to help you…

Hi @Lgdeaf,

Your post has been moved to Aviate, Navigate, Communicate as it is the correct category for your topic. Please ensure you take time to review the category you are posting in.

Do you have failures turned on in the FMC?

If so, perhaps you need to perform maintenance to that engine (and/or other systems) to resolve the issue.

Bleed air ?

2nd this. Make sure your APU bleed is on and your packs are off (in this case your right pack).

iirc the FCOM says to start Engine 2 first.

Looks like bleed cross flow isn’t in the OPEN position. ENG 2 doesn’t get bleed without that.

I believe the cross flow is in Auto, so that should be OK.

I think NixonRedgrave has the right idea, if you have any PMDG failures enabled in the FMC, turn them off.

I start mine Engine 2 first (per the 737 flight manual). It shouldn’t matter that you start 1 first but it says start number two in the manual so there’s probably a reason for that. Typically speaking, turn my packs on after engine both engines are started

You need to set your packs panel so the Left and right packs are not feeding air into the cabin and instead feeding them to the engine (at least i think that’s how it works) while you’re starting the engines:

Starting Engine two, the config should look something like this:

You can set the isolation valve to auto but i prefer leaving it open

After Engine two is started, you can set the packs as such for single engine taxi:

After both engines are started, the config should look like this:

Apu is no longer feeding air to the engines and pumping it into the places it needs to go (like the cabin so people can breath)

It does look like your center fuel pump are not working even though they are on. If you’ve done the above, it’s likely a PMDG failiure is enabled. You can take solace knowing that by going back to the gate you’ve ruined the vacation plans for 160 people.

People keep suggesting things, but that display literally says, “ENG FAIL”.

That is not a message one normally sees with the engines off, nor during start-up.

Engines off:

Engine 1 start (yes, yes I know you start engine 2, normally, but I’m trying to imitate the OP’s scenario):

Engine 1 started:

In none of these scenarios is the “ENG FAIL” indication illuminated. Therein lies the issue here.

EDIT:

Here are the three pages from the QRH when the message ENG FAIL is indicated:

You are over looking the obvious. The ENG FAIL is due to OP’s fuel switches in the RUN position without the engines spooling up. Keep it simple.

I do not agree that bleed bypass can be in the AUTO position for ENG 2 start, it must be in the OPEN position and at least one or preferably both PACKS should be OFF.

Do we know this is the case? Where would that be indicated in the photos?

It’s one of those cases where I’ve never “done it wrong” to know how it would manifest itself error-wise.

I guess I thought I was keeping it simple — reading the ENG FAIL at face value rather than some odd way the OP has attempted to operate the aircraft that caused the message to appear.

I’ve seen this eng fail indication many times when my controller is out of sync with the switches in the VC Cockpit. The “face value” interpretation can fail when the situation is not something that a trained rated pilot would ever run into. Engine fail alert when engines were never started or running is one of those. Normal procedures call for a check of those controls during preflight long before we get to the engine start procedures.

4 posts were split to a new topic: PMDG 737 Hydraulics Problem

For sure. Turn off all the failures when you’re first starting out or you won’t know what’s happening if something goes wrong.
