PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

I bought it this morning. No willpower.

I’m like a magpie, I see something shiny and new (aircraft) and I have to get it.

Resistance is FUTILE! Purchase… purchase… purchase… purchase… purchase…purchase…purchase…

Oh hm maybe some Boeing-pro can help me out with this question!
There is a function in the FMC called “Engines Double Derate” - what is this? What switching on or off this feature do with the airplane?

Just picked up the 737-800. Had a problem with how WASM compiled at first (so I couldn’t use the plane), but one PMDG support ticket and reinstall fixed this up.

FINALLY! A 737 which I think looks the most proportionately correct! In all seriousness, it’s great to fly this thing around. I was previously using 2 Qantas liveries on the 737-700, which is.. unrealistic. Virgin Australia operates around 2 of them (versus many more 738s), so I’ll be very happy when a good VA livery releases for the 738.

So, it’s 69 dollars also for the people who own the -700?

Yes, it is. This was made clear from the beginning by PMDG though.

dears, have not found where in the FMS to request Metar weather data
can it be that its not implemented yet ? D-link option is greyed out
so we fly without any weather

The Boeing FMC does not have this ability, as far as I know.

You get the weather as a file from Simbrief. You download it as part of your Plan.

In the FMC you go to RTE DATA and the request weather. It will then read in the weather from the downloaded file

This is what the WX Folder looks like on your PC:

PMDG recommend you regenerate this file on really log flights and re-request it so you have updated weather.

Also for landing so when you are close to TOD

You press the DES Button on the FMC > Forecast and again request Weather which uses that file and sets up the descent profile then with weather information. I usually regenerate it before I request it

Use Simbrief Downloader to make your life easy:

thanks i was searching to get the weather data from the sim, not from a 3rd party provider outside of msfs.
i can get metar in the zibo, so was wondering that it does not exist here.

Hi,
Owning the B737-700 already, I cannot see myself buying the -800, especially since it has no EFB (yet).
So I will wait for the EFB implementation from PMDG to be able to view my Navigraph charts in VR.
Presently I prefer playing with the FBW A320 because of this.

But it has this! Everything will be fine as long as this is available in a cockpit:

I love this feature and don´t even know what it´s called…
(This sideward terrain awareness with flight path projection thingy on the lower half of the navigation display.)

This is so cool flying fully IFR 100% blind but seeing this awesome eighties-style topgraphy height map and terrain rendered on the display. Pure nothingness 5000 feet below but the unknown terrain while ascending or while on final approach. And this awesome navigation display is helping out by rendering the terrain for me.

VSD Vertical Situation Display.

Some airlines don’t have it enabled. I think its an added extra. eg Alaska Airlines seems to have it Southwest doesn’t. (on the -700 anyway)

Is the cockpit door finally working?

I knew it

Haha I am afraid I am going along the same path!

That is fantastic! Will come in handy when flying to Alaska via Canada and Greenland in winter when you literally cannot see anything due to very low cloud cover.

I think the lowest I saw, at least in Northern Canada, was just a tad above 100ft one time and was called “ice fog”, but that was earlier days of MSFS and landing in a GA with no ILS (it was not a “proper” runway).

ENGINES DOUBLE DERATE: Allows the reduction of takeoff
thrust to that equivalent of the CFM56 engine rated approximately
4,000lbs thrust lower than the engine is actually capable of producing. Hence double derate for the 26,000lb thrust engine
results in an N1 takeoff thrust setting corresponding to that of the
22,000lb thrust engine.

Is that the -700? Struggling to see the $70 difference myself :man_shrugging:t3:

For people who have already spent that same amount on the -700 PMDG asking another $70 for, to all intents and purposes, exactly the same product is disgusting.

The 737 is a fantastic addition to the sim but their pricing policy sucks. It is ludicrously and unjustifiably overpriced when compared to it’s stablemates.

It does, but the airline in question needs to pay for and use ACARS. We used to be able to get ATIS, TAF and METAR on the Classic 737.

It’s not simulated in the PMDG aircraft which is surprising.

Avoiding the pricing-discussion, it would be great to hear some experiences from those owning the -700 and have now bought the -800.

I know it’s all subjective but how do you find it differs in practice? I understand it was expected to feel heavier, higher risk of tailstrike etc but now that you are actually flying it, how does it compare to the -700?

Thanks
